Galatasaray 0-0 Dortmund (4-2 after penalties)

A closely-fought final without too much goal action but with an exciting penalty shoot-out that saw the winning trophy go to Turkey. In period 2, Claudio made a great run down the left and almost scored but the goalkeeper managed to push the ball wide. In period 3, Federico tested Gabriele T with three good shots but Gabriele saved each time. The best chance of the game fell to Maverick; he could have challenged even closer for the Top Scorer trophy but he hooked the shot wide.

And so to penalties: Hats off to the two goalkeepers - Adrian and Giovanni: both made good saves but Galatasaray's kickers held their nerve just slightly better.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Claudio 3, Antonio C 3, Giovanni V 2, Antonio F 2, Giovanni Z 2, Daniele 1, Adrian 2, Erik 1, Federico 1, Maverick 1, Carlo 1, Gabriele T 1, Ryan 1

Third Place final: PSV 2-2 Napoli (7-6 after penalties)

A quick free-kick from Rocco put PSV ahead. Diego I responded immediately, driving an unstoppable shot just over the bar. Vittorio went one better shortly afterwards, his shot striking the underside of the bar and coming out - very unlucky. Napoli equalised before half time: Diego I passed to Leopoldo and he found a rampant Steve who blasted the ball home. Napoli should have gone ahead when Matteo played in a fantastic cross from teh left that was begging to be converted but Napoli did go ahead just before half time. Again it was Matteo with the assist, again it was a determined run and shot from Steve to score. The Italians almost hung on long enough in the second half, but Rocco played a lovely long pass to Lucas in the box; Lucas dodged around his man and shot home. PSV won the penalty shoot-out, thanks to a good save from Christian.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Christian 3, Diego I 3, Matteo N 3, Rocco 3, Steve 3, Vittorio 1, Aron 1, Luca 1, Leopoldo 1, Simon 1, Lucas 1

SF2: Dortmund 2-0 Napoli

A strong start by the Germans today and they pressed Napoli back early on. The best chance of the first period fell to Antonio but he managed to shoot over the bar. Daniele managed one shot from the right but it was well wide of the opposite post. In the second period, Daniele again shot wide and Antonio again came close, his well-struck free kick coming back off the bar, then the post and out! Dortmund finally went ahead with the last kick of period 2, Maverick nipping in to take advantage of some hesitation in the Napoli defence. No change in period 3: Napoli huffed and they puffed but Federico blew their house down with a well-taken second goal.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniele 3, Diego A 2, Anto C 2, Carlo 2, Diego I 2, Maverick 2, Simon 1, Federico 1, Leopoldo 1, Luca 1, Aron 1, Weik 1, Matteo N 1, Martti 1

ACLI league: Ambrit 2-2 Santa Maria Assunta

Football, as they say, is a funny old game. For the first 15', Ambrit dominated possession and territory, creating chance after chance and peppering the opposition goal with shots. Daniele crashed a left-foot shot off the bar and Adriano, following up, smashed an excellent shot low to the right but the keeper made a great save. Daniele popped up on the right wing next time and banged another shot off the bar and then, through again, he tried to chip the keeper but the keeper managed to get a hand on it - just enough to keep the ball out. Another flowing Ambrit move saw Kevin find Dani on the left wing; Dani squared it into Dylan on the edge of the area and Dylan guided the ball just wide when he really should have got it on target. And then, 'gol mangiato, gol subito' - it had to happen. The opposition's first attack saw the No. 11 line up a shot that would surely have been a goal, but Vittorio made a fantastic intervention to block the ball. But then, from the restart, as the ball was crossed harmlessly into the centre, a foot was stuck out and the ball somehow found its way past Gabriele. Adriano just had enough time to test the keeper again with another blistering shot before the teams went in for half-time.

Ambrit made less chances early in the second half but the re-intoduction of Kevin with 10' to go set the game alight. Kevin equalised with a cleanly-hit shot from 20m out and Ambrit threw themselves into attack again. Dylan had a decent shot saved and then Dani played a nice one-two with Dylan and smashed the ball into the top corner! 2-1... could Ambrit hang on? Sadly, no. A silly free kick was conceded on the left and, when the ball came in, the opposing player climbed higher than any of Ambrit's defenders to head home an equaliser.

It should have been three points to Ambrit today, but it wasn't. Why? Too many chances not taken, too many free-kicks totally wasted, too many fouls given away and - worst of all - too many balls bouncing in defence!

We did see some good performances though and three players stood out for this writer: Vittorio was solid in defence; Francesco did a great job in midfield - winning tackles, passing the ball simply and calmly; and Adriano played his position well, stretching the line, winning tackles, forcing the opposition back and getting shots on target.

SF1: Galatasaray 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

After dominating the qualifying group, Galatasaray were favourites to brush aside 4th-place PSV but, at full strength today, the Dutch team held their own. In the end, it was an uneventful game with few real chances - typical semi-final fare. Claudio did almost score early on but Tancredi made an important clearance off the line. Lorenzo forced a good save from Christian shortly afterwards and then Lorenzo - again - shot wide. At the other end, Rocco lined up a couple of shots but didn't really trouble the goalkeeper. Penalties will decide the outcome on Monday morning, 11.20.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Vittorio 3, Lorenzo G 3, Rocco 2, Claudio 2, Giovanni Z 2, Gabriele T 2, Christian 2, Tancredi 2, Antonio F 1, Ashton 1, Giovanni V 1

SEMI-FINALS...

Friday Dec 15, 11:20 - GALATASARAY versus PSV Eindhoven

Tuesday Dec 19, 13.30 - DORTMUND versus NAPOLI

Atletico 1-2 PSV

With two of their most important payers sidelined today for disciplinary reasons, PSV were odds on to crash out of the tournament but the players who were available pulled together and gave a fantastic performance to earn a semi-final place! First half goals from Ashton and Giovanni, backed up by a resolute Josh in defence and an outstanding Christian in goal, were enough, despite a late Atletico resurgence that brought a goal from Lorenzo I and numerous chances.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Christian 5, Josh 4, Ashton 3, Lorenzo I 2, Giovanni M 2, Tancredi 1, Mostafa 1, Adriano 1, Kevin 1, Martino 1, Dmitri 1,

GIRLS' FINAL: France 1-0 Albania

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Lavinia 4, Erin 4, Aurora R 3, Chloe 2, Anna L 2, Caterina 2, Freydis 2, Sara W 1, Zoe 1, Angela 1, Jiayi 1.

11.12.23

ACLI league: Ambrit 8-1 Santa Caterina

After an early fright when the visitors scored to go 1-0 up, Ambrit recovered, equalised and never looked back. Daniele supplied the assist to Dylan for goal number 1. It was again Daniele who made a great run down the right wing before passing to Kevin and Kevin played Dylan in for number 2. Antonio set up Kevin for the next goal and Ambrit were comfortably ahead 3-1 at the break.

The home side began the second half strongly again and Dylan completed his hat-trick with a breakaway goal that left the visitors totally stranded. Francesco's expertly-struck corner was banged home by Nicolas and Antonio made it 6-1 with just 10' left. The visitors never gave up and did manage a couple of good shots but Gabriele was always in charge. Dylan scored two more late goals to finish with a personal tally of 5!

7.12.23

Galatasaray 0-1 Napoli

A big upset today at Ambrit Stadium, with Napoli pulling off a surprise win over an unbeaten Galatasaray and, in all probability, assuring themselves of an unexpected SF place. Leopoldo rescued his team early on with a breath-taking triple save and Galatasaray continued to apply the pressure. Early in the second ghalf, Lorenzo shot wide and then Claudio too. The goal came late on: Rex was too casual with a clearance and Steve took full advantage - racing through to score the winner!

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Simon 4, Giovanni Z 3, Claudio 3, Luca Tommaso 2, Nicolas 2, Steve 2, Gabriel T 1, Leopoldo 1, Diego A 1, Lorenzo G 1, Ryan 1

6.12.23

Man City 0-5 Dortmund 5

Today's result was never in much doubt. Dortmund banged in 5 goals, one better then the next and two absolute jewels. Carlo made it 1-0 in the first period, sweeping a low shot past Martti in goal and Maverick scored a beautiful second in period 2, rising majestically to plant a perfect header into the back of the net. Federico should have made it 3-0 but he blasted over.

In period 3, Federico shot wide to the left but Daniele scored from way out on the touchline before Federico did finally get his name on the scoresheet. But Antonio kept the best goal of the game for us right until the end. From a cross on the right, he smashed an acrobatic scissors kick over his left shoulder and past a bewildered Gabriele. If you want to see exactly what it was like, here is a link!

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniele 5, Federico 4, Francesco 3, Antonio C 3, Maverick 2, Carlo 2, Jacopo 1, Adrian 1, Erik 1

3.12.23

ACLI league: US Nomen 4-4 Ambrit

Ambrit began the game well, Dylan and Kevin linking up to set up an early goal for Dylan. Nomen were lucky to equalise soon after, Nicolas scoring an own-goal. In the second half, the hosts scored right away but Dylan got his team level again with a well-struck free-kick. The visitors then got their noses in front, Daniele finishing off a good move with a goal for 3-2. In a ding-dong battle, Nomen equalised again but Kevin made it 4-3 to Ambrit. It looked like that might be enough, but a combination of some dubious refereeing, some determination from Nomen and some scandalous defending led to another equaliser from a long ball scramble.

BOYS INTRAMURAL: Exciting last round of games coming up

With one round of games to go, GALATASARAY and BORUSSIA are already in the semi-finals.Who will join them?

Atletico, City and Napoli are all on 4 points.

Napoli face Galatasaray.

City face Borussia.

Atletico face a weakened PSV.

The INTRAMURAL computer PREDICTS:

Atletico to win and qualify for the SFs; City and Napoli to lose, with Napoli going through on the head-to-head rule!

Atletico 2-3 Galatasaray

With captain and talisman Giovanni sidelined for disciplinary reason - and Antonio F too - it looked like Atletico might be able to take advantage but Galatasaray started strongly again. A nice move down the left involving Gabriele and Lorenzo set Claudio up but his shot was just wide. Claudio did score minutes later though with a free kick from distance, but Max equalised almost immediately when he pounced on a loose back pass and shot to the corner. Galatasaray took the lead again - Edoardo scoring off a Claudio assist - but Kevin equalised with a beautiful goal, struck cleanly into the top corner. Kevin's celebrations earned him a second yellow and he was barely off the pitch before Claudio shot from afar to capture the lead for the third, last and decisive time.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Claudio 5, Kevin 3, Edoardo 2, Lorenzo G 2, Lorenzo I 2, Adriano 2, Max 2, Gabriele T 1, Martino 1, Samuel 1

30.11.23

Albania 1-1 France

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Lavinia 3, Aurora 3, Erin 2, Livia 2, Valerie 2, Anna Laura 1, Sara P 1, Angela 1, Caterina 1, Zoe 1, Jiayi 1, Carla 1, Sophie 1, Sara W 1.

29.11.23

PSV 2-2 Napoli

Napoli's recent run of form continued today and they came away with another valuable point. They started quickly and Diego A put them ahead after 5'. Vittorio came closest for PSV in this first period with a clever back heel that almost went in, but Diego I added a second for Napoli before the break, with a trademark thunderbolt from outside the area.

PSV woke up in period 2. Ashton set up Lucas for an unmissable shot at the far post... but Lucas missed! Rocco stepped up soon after and his determination had his team level at the end of period 2, a doppietta from RR. No change to the scoreline in period 3. Rocco had the ball in the back of the net but th3 whistle had already blown for a Vittorio push on Luca.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Rocco 6, Diego A 3, Ashton 3, Diego I 2, Josh 2, Giovanni M 2, Luca 1, Vittorio 1, Steve 1

27.11.23

Dortmund 2-0 Atletico

No goals in period 1. Lorenzo I tested Martti and Daniele tested Sam but both goalkeepers saved well. In period 2, Antonio C put his team ahead with a penalty awarded for a push and Federico made the three points safe with an accurate strike from 15m out.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniele 5, Antonio C 3, Federico 3, Lorenzo I 2, Carlo 1, Sam 1, Martti 1, Martino 1, Adriano 1, Kevin 1, Max 1, Madison 1

24.11.23

Croatia 0-0 Albania

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Aurora R. 4, Aurora A. 3, Erica 3, Thea 2, Carla 2, Marta 1, Una 1, Costanza 1, Sara W 1, Anna 1, Zoe 1, Clotilde 1, Gracie 1, Livia 1.

22.11.23

Napoli 3-1 Man City

Il Napoli vive!! After a run of defeats, Nicholas's team rediscovered some form today and, to the delight of a packed Ambrit Stadium, ran out 3-1 winners over City with a fine team display. Aron was solid in goal and started early, saving well from James. Napoli took the lead when Matteo's well-struck corner was met by Luca, who headed it confidently into the back of the net. Diego A almost doubled the lead shortly afterwards; he shot from an incredibly tight angle and was unlucky to see the ball come back off the inside of the post. At the other end, Jacopo made space for a shot but Simon made a great intervention to block the ball. Napoli came out quickly for the second period and Diego A sent in Steve for an early shot. City nearly equalised when Aron was content to let Jacopo's shot hit the post but, 2' later, Steve crowned an excellent performance with an excellent goal, flicking the ball nonchalently past the goalkeeper. As the third period began, the crowd was waiting for City's reaction and it came when they were awarded a penalty. Gabriele converted and now City attacked with even more intent. But Aron was equal to everything and it was Napoli who scored again, Matteo N's free kick found Leopoldo in space and he shot calmly into the bottom corner.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Steve 4, Diego A 4, Luca 4, Aron 2, Gabriele F 2, Simon 1, Matteo N 1, Jacopo 1, Leopoldo 1, Lorenzo L 1, Matteo N 1

21.11.23

8S 1-1 TEACHERS

Any match involving the teachers is usually an exciting game of football... but today's match is the exception that proves the rule. With 8S resorting almost exclusively to route one when in possession and doing everything possible to (quite literally) knock the teachers out of their stride when defending, this match was not one of the most memorable. The teachers were less cohesive than usual - probably due to a very active summer in the transfer market - and this is a side that needs more time together to gel. 8S began better. Antonio F was close but his shot dribbled wide. Kevin, playing at full throttle all through the game, then put his team ahead. He was played in by Giovanni Z and his shot had enough pace and spin to get past Mr Martin.

The teachers woke up in the second half. Mr Piccolo's glancing header was close, but was, well, too glanced. Mr Alessandro did equalise though. Despite the strong attentions of Giovanni Z, he found enough space to shoot and the ball flew in! The match was not without its controversy: the teachers claimed two penalties - one for a handball and one for a ball kicked high over the south fence - but referee Corcoran denied both and was backed up by VAR.

Ambrit-St.Francis 1-1 (Erica)

Ambrit-Acorn 1-0 (Alessandra)

Ambrit-Castelli 1-3 (Erin)

Semifinal: Ambrit-New School 0-1

3rd Place Final: Ambrit-AOSR 2-0 (Erica, Lavinia)

RISA Soccer - u12 BOYS: AMBRIT capture the u12 title too!

It was smiles all around for the Ambrit coaching staff as they watched the u12s put on an assured display that promises well for the future! An opening game got off to the best possible start when early Ambrit pressure forced a handball in the area and Diego stepped up confidently to score low down to his left. Buoyed by the early breakthrough, Ambrit kept AOSR pinned down for most of the game and Giovanni, Lorenzo G (2), Antonio, Diego (2 more) and Mostafa all added their names to the scoresheet.

The final versus Marymount was another story entirely. This time it was Ambrit who went down to the early goal and, now unsettled, they let Marymount in for a second - nobody taking charge at the back. Now losing 2-0, Lorenzo G decided something needed to be done - and he did it. His first goal was a triumph of determination, his second a triumph of elegance - a well-timed flick of his heel on the volley! Lorenzo completed his hat-trick to put Ambrit ahead with just 8 minutes left on the clock. But then Marymount scored a fantastic equaliser! Breaking on the left, their number 7 looked up, spotted Maarti off his line and launched a 'Di Marco'-style shot over Maarti and into the back of the net. Five tense minutes followed, with each team looking for the winner and, with just 30'' on the clock, Antonio (who was excellent today) played the ball to Diego at the edge of the area. One touch to steady himself was all Diego needed and his next touch rolled the ball past the despairing goalkeeper to nestle just inside the left-hand post!

TEAM: Martti, Simon, Matteo, Junio, Giovanni, Antonio, Lorenzo L, Lorenzo G, Diego, Mostafa, Edoardo

RISA Soccer - u14 BOYS : Eight teams, ONE Winner - AMBRIT!

Ambrit's u14 boys grew into this tournament, improving with every game. A 2-0 win in their opener versus New School (Gabriele F, Giovanni Z) sent them into game 2 versus St Francis in a confident mood. SFIS shook them though with an early goal but Ambrit responded magnificently. Francesco scored straight from a corner and Rocco made it 2-1. Antonio headed in a third and then Rocco struck again. Daniele scored the fifth. The last group game was against Marymount, who had been winning too. But Ambrit were now unstoppable. Kevin, Daniele, Rocco and Gabriele (2) scored for an easy 5-0.

And so on to the SF versus Acorn. After a tense start, there was Rocco again - always pressuring the defenders, always looking for an opening. He got it and converted and Ambrit settled down. Daniele scored a beauty from a free kick and Rocco chipped in a third to send Ambrit into the final. Here they came up against AOSR, who had beaten our boys 1-0 at the Ambrit tournament last month. But today Ambrit had one team and one idea: WIN! And they did!! This time it was Gabriele who scored the opener, turning in Rocco's corner. Dani then played the assist for Rocco to make it 2-0 and Giovanni set up Rocco soon after for a third.

All in all, a great team performance with some outstanding individual contributions. A special mention to Giovanni Z who dominated in midfield, never put a foot wrong in defence and was happy to let others score the goals up front.

TEAM: Adrian, Aron, Adriano, Vittorio, Giovanni Z, Francesco, Daniele, Kevin, Rocco, Gabriele, Erik, Antonio, Dmitri

17.11.23

Galatasaray 5-3 PSV

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Giovanni Z 4, Antonio 4, Rocco 4, Claudio 3,  Vittorio 1, Ashton 1, Giovanni V 1, Rex 1,

16.11.23

France 1-0 Holland

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Erin 5, Sara 3, Vittoria G 2, Chloe 2, Naila 2, Alessandra 1, Margherita 1, Maeve 1, Megan 1, Sophie 1.

11.11.23

ACLI Friendly: OMC 2-3 Ambrit

Ambrit came through their first test of the season today with flying colours! After a slow start that saw them 1-0 down after just three minutes, the team pulled itself together and Dylan slammed home a free-kick from 15m out to make it 1-1. Dylan struck again to put Ambrit ahead but the home team equalised to set up a grandstand finish. Kevin scored the decider and Ambrit can now look forward with optimism to the beginning of the competitive season.

TEAM: Gabriele; Vittorio, Adriano, Luca, Martino; Francesco, Kevin, Giovanni, Nicholas; Dylan, Antonio, Daniele.

10.11.23

Galatasaray 4-1 Man City

On paper, this was an exciting fixture and, in reality, it lived up to the hype. Galatasaray started with energy and menace and, before long, they were 1-0 up. In a move that started with Zain and then flowed through Claudio and Lorenzo G, Giovanni Z was on hand to smash home an unstoppable shot. Minutes later, Claudio took advantage of Matteo's unfortunate slip to steal the ball and crash home a second. City were down... but not out! A long ball from Gabriele F was headed on by Jacopo and Antoine did very well to control the ball and shoot past Gabriele T: 2-1! Lorenzo G almost made it 3-1 just before the break but Gabriele F made an excellent save.

In the second period, Lorenzo G tested Gabriele F twice more: first from a free kick and then from the rebound. Gabriele saved both and then looked on gratefully as Edoardo fired the ball over the bar. Claudio shot well too but, again, Gabriele F saved.

Gabriele F came out for period 3 and almost scored immediately but his shot was just too high. Claudio supplied the assist for the Turks' killer third goal, finished off by an in-form Lorenzo G. Jacopo was unlucky not to narrow the gap with a great header that was well-saved by Rex, and Claudio finished off proceedings with a fourth goal, struck from way out on the wing but with enough force to cross the line without needing a touch from Gabriele T!

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Claudio 3, Lorenzo G 3, Giovanni Z 3, Gabriele F 3, Jacopo 2, Antoine 2, Antonio F 1, Giovanni V 1, Gabriele T 1, Zain 1, Rex 1

9.11.23

France 0-0 Croazia

A cracking game today between two well-organised teams who played at a high tempo throughout but couldn't produce a goal between them. And indeed, a defeat would have been cruel for either team. France probably shaded the first half, with Erin making some breath-taking dribbles past one player after another without, however, producing the killer shot that was needed at the end. Croazia came much more into the game in the second half. With Captain Costanza talking constantly to her players - to organise, to encourage and to direct - chances followed. Una worked hard in midfield; Clotilde too. Erica's lob was just too high... only just! Erica's shot when gifted the ball by Freydis was just wide... just! But Lavinia was an exemplary vice-captain too, and she was unlucky to see her own shot drift just wide. Erin continued to threaten though and, when it wasn't her, Angela stepped in. But both goalkeepers were in form and both kept a clean sheet.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Erin 4, Costanza 3, Erica 3, Lavinia 2, Aurora A 2, Clotilde 2, Angela 1, Freydis 1, Una 1, Caterina 1, Giulia 1,

8.11.23

Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Napoli

This Napoli is a pale shadow of the Napoli that won the Serie A title last season, ample demonstration that the Intramural is a much tougher competition to win. Dortmund were dominant throughout today and Captain Dani provided the assist for goal number 1, finished off from a tight angle by Maverick - a player who is looking more and more dangerous with each passing game. Daniele himself added a second with a well-judged lob from midfield and Maverick turned up to force home a third goal in a goalmouth scramble following a corner. In all this, Napoli were not inactive. Steve and Diego battled gamely but shots on goal were rare. Diego was unlucky with a header from a corner - just over - and Steve tested the goalkeeper twice but both shots were too central. Leopoldo went into goal for the last period and saved well from Daniele but he could do nothing about Dortmund's last goal. Carlo's pass to Antonio was probably the best pass of the game and Antonio buried it convincingly in the back of the net.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniele 4, Diego I 3, Maverick 3, Erik 2, Antonio C 2, Steve 2, Diego A 2, Dylan 1, Matteo N 1, Sam 1, Carlo 1

26.10.23

PSV 1-2 B. Dortmund

A pulsating clash unfolded at Ambrit Stadium today, pitting PSV Eindhoven against the formidable Borussia Dortmund.

In a whirlwind of end-to-end action, the indomitable Vittorio emerged as a formidable obstacle for PSV, gallantly thwarting the relentless assaults launched by Maverick and Federico while Rocco and Ashton pressed at the other end countered by the resilient defence of Adrian, Erik, Sam, and the custodian Martti for the German side. The turning point arrived under controversial circumstances, with Rocco winning a penalty amid debate, following a slight brush against Sam's chest in the box. The tension was soon mirrored on the scoreboard, as a throw-in seemed to take a slight deflection before nestling in the net. While PSV players vehemently argued that it was a direct throw, the referee ultimately ruled an own goal against Cristian, the goalkeeper.

With the match poised on a knife's edge, the intensity reached yet another crescendo. Daniele was a tireless presence, seemingly omnipresent – blocking shots one moment, orchestrating play through midfield the next. The midfield duel between Daniele and Rocco emerged as one of the match's highlights.

As the game appeared destined for a draw, a late-game hero emerged in the form of super-sub Antonio C. His pinpoint pass from the heart of midfield sliced through the defensive line, presenting Maverick with a straightforward opportunity to tap it home, clinching a dramatic victory.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniele 4, Rocco 3, Vittorio 3, Federico 3, Ashton 2, Maverick 2, Adrian 1, Erik 1, Josh 1, Lucas 1,

Man City 6-2 Atletico M

A four-goal difference is hard to justify in a game that was evenly-fought all the way through. City's first goal was not without controversy: referee Corcoran gave a corner when Atletico's defenders were adamant that it should have been a goal kick and, when the corner came in, Jacopo rose to nod a majestic header past Freydis for 1-0. Atletico tried to get back into the game immediately and Lorenzo was unlucky: his first shot came back off the bar and his next shot went wide. City then went 2-0 up: with Jacopo creating confusion in the box, the ball fell to Antoine and he shot home. Jacopo hammered in a third just before the first break.

Lorenzo got a yellow card for a deliberate hand ball early in the second period and Kevin almost pulled a goal back nut Gabriele made an excellent save. But City were missing nothing in front of goal. Given another chance, Antoine didn't say no, lobbing the ball over Samuel for 4-0. Lorenzo continued to test Gabriele and forced two more saves from the ACLI number 1, first from a free kick and then from a shot from the right. Max also shot well but was foiled by Gabriele.

More goals followed in period 3. Lorenzo played in Max and Atletico finally got on the scoreboard. City dampened the enthusiasm immediately though when they were awarded a penalty for handball. Freddie stepped up confidently to restore the four-goal cushion. Max scored again but Francesco had the last word, floating a delicious shot high into the corner to wrap up the victory for City.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Antoine 4, Gabriele 3, Lorenzo I 3,  Francesco 3, Matteo 2, Jacopo 2, Max 2, Freddie 1, Adriano 1,

Final agony for Ambrit as AOSR take the trophy!

After the ecstasy of a SF derby win on penalties, Ambrit's ACLI team lost out to AOSR in the final but they take away the satisfaction of a good day's work and a good first test for this year's team.

Ambrit's other team - Ambrit 'A' - kicked off their day with a resounding 5-0 win over Chateaubriand in group A, with all five goals coming from an unstoppable Rocco in attack. They followed this up later with a 1-0 win over New School (Giovanni Z) and another 5-0 win over Viterbo (Rocco 3, Giovanni 1, Dimitri 1) to propel themselves safely into the semi-final.

In group B, Ambrit ACLI progressed with a modest 1-0 win over Marymount (Daniele) and a much more precious 1-0 win over AOSR (Kevin), before losing their final group match 1-0 to Acorn. However, a superior goal difference saw ACLI creep into the SF to face their Ambrit rivals! After a typically tense 15' of derby football, the score was still 0-0 and so on to the dreaded penalty shoot-out! Here the standard of penalties was amazing and so too was the standard of goalkeeping, with Giovanni Z and Gabriele outdoing one another time after time. After 8 koicks each, Ambrit ACLI won through!

The final began with a quick and messy goal for AOSR and it was then one-way traffic, with Ambrit dominating possession. But their play was chaotic and needed someone to step on the ball, slow it down and find the killer pass. Somehow, the visitors surviced, flourished and won the the game and the tournament.

Albania 1-0 Holland

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Margherita 3, Olivia 2, Alessandra 2, Suleyma 2, Carla 2, Zoe 2, Livia 1, Aurora R 1, Maeve 1, Sara W 1, Anna C, 1 Naila 1.

18.10.23

Atletico M 2-0 Napoli

No goals in the first period, the best chance falling to Diego - but guest goalkeeper Freydis made the first of many good saves. Atletico opened the scoring in period 2: Lorenzo passed a ball down the right to Kevin and he touched it on to Max; despite the tight angle, Max managed to slide the ball home. Napoli almost equalised immediately but Lorenzo L's shot came back off the post to Nicholas. The captain shot again but Freydis saved low to her right. In the third period, Kevin shot from edge of the area; Luca Tommaso deflected the ball onto the post but, soon after, Max found Kevin with a pass in the penalty area and Kevin rifled it home.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Kevin 5, Max 4, Lorenzo I 4, Luca Tommaso 2, Lorenzo L 2, Diego 1, Adriano 1, Simon 1, Steve 1

YELLOW CARD: Ruben

PSV 2-2 Man City

An action-packed first period saw Jacopo strike first to put Man City into the lead. But Rocco's tireless running in midfield opened up a lot of chances for PSV up front and Lucas P took advantage to slip the ball past Gabriele for an equaliser. Both sides were full of energy and ideas and City went back into the lead when Francesco forced the ball over the line. Rocco almost evened the scores again but his shot was well-saved from Gabriele. Rocco made chances for Ashton and Lucas but the score stayed at 2-1 until another pass from Rocco put Lucas in again. The g6 striker was calm and collected and scored a deserved equalising goal.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Rocco 5, Gabriele Fi 4, Lucas P 3, Jacopo 2, Alvaro 2, Francesco 2, Matteo 2, Joshua 1

12.10.23

Holland 1-0 Croatia

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Alessandra 3, Costanza 2, Margherita 2, Olivia 2, Una 2, Emma 1, Clotilde 1, Maeve 1, Marta 1, Naila 1, Megan 1.

Galatasaray 4-3 Dortmund

An exciting opening match kept the capacity crowd at Ambrit stadium entertained right to the final whistle. Federico put Dortmund ahead in the first period; Daniele played a clever free-kick to him inside the area and Federico buried the ball in the back of the net. Galatasaray equalised through Claudio almost immediately but a lovely passing move for Dortmund saw Daniele release Maverick to make it 2-1.

In the second period, Giovanni almost equalised with a well-struck free-kick but Adrian made a good save. Antonio F then clattered a shot back off the post and Lorenzo was on hand to gather the rebound and dispatch it into the corner to make it 2-2.

But the final period was decisive and belonged to the Turks. Antonio F scored - 3-2 - and then an unfortunate own-goal made it 4-2 before Antonio C continued his goalscoring vein to haul Dortmund back into the game. But time was running out and Dortmund saw their chance of a point slip by when Giovanni's awkward header bounced to safety off his own crossbar!

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Claudio 4, Federico 4, Daniele 3, Antonio C 3, Antonio F 2, Giovanni V 1, Giovanni Z 1, Sam 1, Lorenzo 1, Maverick 1

RISA GIRLS' TOURNAMENT

FINALE: Ambrit - St. George's Georgians 1-0

FINAL: 8S 2-0 7D

The best game of the tournament was reserved for the final and a sell-out crowd witnessed not only a pulsating match but also the best display of goalkeeping ever seen at Ambrit stadium. With 7D dominating possession and making all the chances, it seemed only a matter of time before they scored. And it seemed that they had scored when Antoine hit an unstoppable shot at Giovanni... but it wasn't unstoppble and Giovanni flew to his left to parry it wide. Next up was Carlo, who caught the ball perfectly to send the ball in under the crossbar... except there was Giovanni again, somehow pawing the ball over the bar. And then came the best one of all: Jacopo picked up the ball on the edge of the area, rounded two defenders and set himself up for the shot, a mere 7m from the goal; he shot to his left, turned away to celebrate the goal but then looked on in disbelief as Giovanni dived to save again!

In between all this, 8V put some attacks together but, again, nothing got past Erin until a series of fortunate breaks saw Diego in some space. The angle looked difficult but Diego drove an impressive shot home: 1-0! Kevin followed up to score a second with the last kick of the game.

SEMI FINAL: 7D 1-1 8Z (4-2 after pens)

Rocco put his side ahead in the first period but 7D were quick to equalise, the final ball of yet another attack bouncing off a defender and into the goal. Carlo almost stole the lead for 7D but his shot came back off the post. In the second period, Antoine made a couple of chances for himself and almost scored but the goalkeeper saved well. For 7D, Jacopo was everywhere and Erin superlative in defence.

5.10.23

SEMI-FINAL: 8S 2-1 6A

For a while, the 6A dream was very much alive. In the first period, they were the better team: more energy, more desire, more possession... but no goals. In the second period, 8S took the lead through Kevin. No surprise there, Kevin was their most threatening player all day. But 6A hit back almost immediately, Antonio latching onto a loose ball and dispatching it with his usual clinical style. The game ebbed and flowed now, each side probing for a chance to snatch the win. In the end, the winning goal came from a set-piece. An indirect free-kick inside the area and, when the ball was rolled back, Giovanni slammed home the winner.

Daniele has gone straight for a goalkeeper and signed Adrian, a solid investment in an experienced 'keeper and he has added Sam to shore up the defence.

Matteo has followed his example: Gabriele F to play in goal (or out!) and Francesco too - another player capable of filling any position.

Adriano has mortgaged the Spanish club and spent a record fee on Kevin+Martino, a formidable-looking team already.

And Vittorio, watching the markets and biding his time, has tempted two fine attacking players to Holland - Rocco and Ashton

TUNE IN LATER FOR MORE NEWS!!!!!

6A 10-0 6T

27.9.23

8S 6-1 8Z

An easy win; goals from Kevin, Diego, Olivia, Giovanni, Vittorio, own-goal.

20.9.23

8Z 2-0 8V

In a bad-tempered game, 8Z took the points thanks to goals from Rocco and James. After a first period dominated by 8Z, 8V came forward a little more but left some spaces at the back. Daniele almost profited but Gabriele made the first of a string of good saves, denying James shortly afterwards and then Daniele again. Still scoreless going into the third period. Ad, thanks in no small part to Freydis!

Adriano, who played really well today, almost put 8V ahead with a fantastic header that crashed back off the bar and then Gabriele saved from James again. Rocco dribbled through the whole of the opposing team but his shot was wide. He tried again though two minutes later and this time his unerring drive along the ground found the opposite corner: 1-0. James added a second at the end, turning on a ball at the edge of the area and shooting through a crowd of players.

YELLOW CARDS: Daniele, Rocco, Adriano

15.9.23

6A 2-0 6B

After a first period in which the two teams carefully tested each other, the match exploded in the second period with Antonio's scorching shot into the top corner: no chance for the goalkeeper wit that one!

Antonio was everywhere, winning ball after ball in midfield and then, in period 3, he was on hand to tap in a second goal when the goalkeeper saved Claudio's shot from the left.

6B never stopped trying to get back into the game but their shots were too often central, straight into the hands of a grateful Samuel in goal for 6A.

7D 2-1 7C

13.9.23

8S 3-0 8V

A well-organised 8S was too strong for 8V today. 8V were pinned back for most of the game and goals from Diego (2) and Vittorio put the game beyond doubt.

YELLOW CARDS: Vittorio, Gabriele, Rocco
