Juventus 6-1 Fiorentina

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Cristian 5, Lucy 4, Sofia 2, Valerio 2, Mikel 2, Santiago 2, William 1, Ameli 1.

ANSPI u13: Ambrit 5-1 Real Guadalupe

A tense evening began badly for Ambrit when the visitors broke the deadlock but Ambrit were level within minutes when Ale converted a free kick. As the first period came to an end, Zach sneaked a second goal and Ambrit found themselves ahead without having played particularly well.
The team tightened things up in the second period and dominated possession. Santiago made a couple of crucial saves. Ale's early goal made it 3-1 going into the last period.
Ale scored in this period too, a lovely curling shot from 20m out. Vittorio added a fifth, Leo made some great tackles and Zach picked up a yellow card; but the three points were secured and propel Ambrit into joint first place... for the moment!
TEAM: Santiago; Leo, Carlo, Vittorio, Ale, Mattia, Zach

Liverpool 1-0 Ajax

A poor game today with an even poorer finale. Pietro's goal the only bright spot.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Pietro 5, Ludovico 2, Dylan S 2, Adriano 1, Marco 1, Tommy S 1, Alberto 1, Elias 1, Raffaele 1, Bernardo 1, Cameron 1, Massimo M 1, Mateo 1, Tommy G 1

Chelsea 3-0 Porto

Lucy had some early chances for Porto and she came close, shaving the post once and striking it on another occasion. Lucy dropped back to defence and Eleonora took her place up front but more chances went a-begging. Chelsea were much more clinical. Carolina opened the scoring with a neat chip past an onrushing Allegra; Naomi had two chances and added two more goals.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Lucy 3, Agata 3, Eleonora 3, Myla 2, Carolina 2, Naomi 2, Liva 2, Chanel 2, Flavia 2

ANSPI u13: Vigna Pia 1-1 Ambrit

0-0 after the first period, 0-0 after the second period, the game's two goals came in the last two minutes. Ambrit were first on the scoreboard when Ale nipped in to steal a ball and his snapshot caught an otherwise excellent goalkeeper napping. Instead of shutting up shop, Ambrit allowed themselves to be distracted and left a Vigna Pia player unmarked behind the defence. Santiago made a fantastic save from the shot, Carlo blocked a follow-up shot but Vigna Pia were quicker to the second rebound and drilled home an equaliser. Probably a fair result.

Ambrit MS Girls Get to the Final... and so do the u9s!!

On a sunny Saturday morning, Ambrit's MS Girls put in another fine set of performances at Ambrit Stadium to win their group, their semi-final and almost the final! Meanwhile, at AOSR, our u9s did exactly the same (see below).

Middle School
Match 1: Ambrit 1-0 St George's
Ambrit took on St George's and the home girls dominated the match. Alice tested the goalkeeper early on and Lucy shot over the bar. Lucy set up Alice for another chance but it was Yutong who broke the deadlock with a well-struck shot from 15 meters. Lucy and Yutong set up two more chances for Alice but, with the defence of Gala, Maya, Emma and Isabel stopping every opposition attempt, one goal was enough to win the match.
Match 2: Ambrit 2-0 St Marymount
Ambrit sprang out of the traps and put the Marymount girls under immediate pressure. Flustered, the goalkeeper failed to collect the ball cleanly and Lucy did't need a second invitation to stick the ball in the back of the net after just 1' of play. And then she repeated the trick! Again, the goalkeeper found herself under pressure and Lucy was on hand to make it 2-0... after 2'.
The game now settled into a more normal rhythm. Marymount did their best to get back into it but Emma shut them down effectively in defence and Myla was quick off her line to sweep up any loose balls coming through. Sofia supported the defence and passed well to Alice, always available up front.
Semi-final: Ambrit 0-0 Chateaubriand (4-2 after penalties)
This cagey game always edged towards a draw and the referee signalled a penalty competition to decide it. Yutong, Alice, Lucy and Sofia all smashed their kicks home and two fantastic saves by Myla saw Ambrit celebrate their qualification for the final!
Final: Ambrit 2-3 New School
A fantastic game of football, a worthy final! Alice gave Ambrit the lead but New School equalised; Yutong stole it back for Ambrit... but New School equalised again. Both teams continued to look bravely for a winning goal and Myla made a couple of stunning saves from fiercely-struck New School shots. Then, with just seconds left on the clock, New School took a shot through a crowded penalty area; the ball looked like it was heading wide but a last second deflection off a wandering heel directed the ball towards the corner of the net and Ambrit's players could only look on in anguish as the ball dribbled inevitably in to secure a victory for New School.
Huge compliments to Ambrit's girls, but also to both New School and Chateaubriand who played to exceedingly high standards of sporting behaviour.
TEAM: Myla; Emma, Isabel, Maya, Gala; Sofia, Yutong, Lucy; Alice

u9
Our under 9 team played at AOSR against aosr a, aosr b and Rome international. We tied the first game 1-1, then we lost against RIS and we won against Aosr b. We tied the semi-final against aosr b so we had a penalty shoot out. Emiliano played goalie and Max, Maverick and kendi shot. We won the shoot out with Kendi’s goal. We played the finals against RIS and lost.

Paris SG 2-1 Juventus

A full strength PSG put in a solid performance at Ambrit Stadium today to make it three wins out of three in the Spring intramural.
Saverio - already proven to be a shrewd operator in the transfer market - lined his team out perfectly; Edo hung back to shore up the defence, leaving Alex, Mattia and Giacomo free to roam. Saverio himself played a good linking role in midfield, winning ball and always ready to lay it off simply to his more experienced team-mates.
Juve, on the other hand, were disjointed. With Lucy drafted in to replace Valerio and Mikel off form, the chances that they did create were not converted. Santiago and Cristian put in good, energetic performances but it wasn't enough. PSG went ahead when when Mattia finished off a good passing move involving Saverio, Edo and a final ball from Alex. Edo added a spectacular second, looped into the top corner from 20 meters. Cristian converted a late penalty.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Saverio 4, Lucas 4, Edoardo 4, Giacomo 3, Cristian 3, Santiago 2, Alex 1, Mattia 1

Porto 1-0 Napoli

Today's match saw two evenly-matched teams in a contest full of interesting mini-battles... particularly the one featuring Lucy versus Gala. Lucy was very active, involved in all of Porto's best moves, but Gala snuffed out most of the plays before they became dangerous.
Porto had an early chance when Agata and Lucy combined well but Lucy's shot was saved by Giulia.
Lucy made it 1-0 not long after though and the two sides continued to attack each other for the rest of the game. Sofia and Yutong created some opportunities but it was Lucy who threatened more often and more seriously.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Gala 5, Lucy 5, Yutong 4, Agata 3, Sofia 2, Raffaella 1, Emma 1, Soraya 1, Eleonora 1

5.2.20

Barcelona 2-1 Liverpool

Against an albeit weakened Liverpool, Barcelona continued to defy the odds and expectations and produced another solid team performance to take a valuable three points.
Nikos justified his expensive price tag with two goals from two chances and, try as they might, Liverpool could not add to Alberto's goal. They did have lots of chances: Tommy struck the bar, shot wide shot over, had shots blocked, others saved and others stopped. Sam and Augusto bossed the pitch for large periods.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Sam 5, Augusto 4, Nikos 3, Tommy 2, Zach 2, Valerio 1, Ludo 1, Lorenzo 1, Alberto 1
