A Winning Start for Ambrit

Ambrit's u14 team got off to a great start to the new season today, winning the year's first RISA tournament against some strong opposition.
A packed Ambrit stadium saw Lapo put the team 1-0 up against Castelli; Manfredi added two more goals, one a very sweet header off a Peter corner. The team tired a little towards the end, allowing Castelli to get back to 3-2, but time ran out and the three points were collected.
Touch, vision, and an eye for goal!
The second game was against St George's. Pietro started and showed everyone why he was the u11 team's top scorer last year, tucking away three chances to put Ambrit 3-1 ahead after 10 minutes.
Manfredi then took over goal-scoring duries and matched Pietro's haul. Ambrit now had 6 points out of 6 and needed only a draw against New School to proceed to the final.
Impressive debut in the Middle School team
A 4-2 victory, with goals from Pietro, Manfredi and Lapo (2) made sure of qualification.
In the final, Pietro again led the attack and he scored all three goals in a 3-1 victory.
Lots of great performances today.
Max was solid in goal and Giuseppe, Peter and Elias were largely impeccable in defence. Lapo played his best ever football in an Ambrit shirt. Gavyn protected the defence. Good contributions from Giacomo, Theo, Jerry and Giorgio.
TEAM: Max; Giuseppe (capt), Peter, Elias; Lapo, Pietro, Gavyn; Manfredi; Joel, Giacomo, Jerry, Theo, Giorgio.

6A - 6F

6A came out today determined to make up for yesterday's defeat... and they did! However, they're helped by the fact that 6F were forced to play with only 7 - and sometimes only 6 - players on the field thanks to disciplinary action by one of their teachers.
Mateo scored very early on with a well-placed shot into the bottom corner and he might have added a second late on when his powerful shot from midfield smashed against the crossbar.
In between, clear chances on goal were rare though 6F almost scrambled one over the line from a corner and another corner, driven in by Guillermo, had to be saved by an alert Taki.
Next week sees a showdown between 6R and 6F.
A draw is enough for the Rs: the Fs need a win!

6A - 6R

Great excitement today at Ambrit Stadium as the players of 6A and 6R made their middle school football debuts.
6A dominated the early possession but we unable to test 6R's goalkeeper. As the minutes ticked by, 6R came more into the game and then 6A made an error in defence, their keeper picking up a back pass and conceding an indirect free kick. Pietro touched the ball to Cristian and he blasted it past Taki for 1-0.
Cristian added a second a few minutes later following a solo run which took him past two defenders. He finished wide on the left and slipped the ball past an onrushing Taki.
But 6R never gave up and, just when there seemed to be no hope, Paul dribbled inside and unleashed an accurate shot to the top corner to make it 2-1.
But it was too little, too late and 6R took the three points and 6A need a result against 6F tomorrow!

7M 2-2 7P

Honours shared in a tight, competitive encounter that sees 7P through to the semi-finals.
Anthony opened the scoring with a well-disguised shot from distance. Senai came on and equalised soon after and Gavin put his team in front when he pounced onto a loose ball in the area and smashed it past Max.
Anthony took advantage of a moment of distraction in midfield to lob an equaliser past Louis.

Autumn Intramural: Teams & Calendar

Hot off the press!
The teams for our first IM tournament of the year have been published and competition looks very hot this year. (Calendar here)
Some fascinating questions immediately come to mind:

  • Can Manfredi keep up his remarkable scoring average and make Mr Antonio happy by leading Milan to victory?
  • Can Lapo impose some discipline on his unruly team-mates and keep Roma fighting for the title?
  • Can Cristian really play for Lazio?
  • Can anyone stop Lucrezia from lifting another winners' trophy?

21.9.17

7K 0-5 7P

Riven by absences and suspensions, 7K submitted meekly to a superior 7P.
Goals from Daniel (2), Ale (2) and Gavin.
Yellow cards for Ale and Senai.

20.9.17

7K 1-0 7M

A well-organised 7K team won a close encounter today against their talented but chaotic opponents.
The only goal was scored when Tommaso crossed to Jacopo and he slid it past Max.
Michele struck a post for 7M but, otherwise, Andrea dealt with all dangers very well. Jacopo might have added a second but Raphael, just on, cleared it of the line.
Tommaso, red-carded at the end, will miss the next game.

15.9.17

8T 2-1 8F

8T and 8F fought out a very entertaining and competitive game today.
8T drew first blood when Lapo made a fantastic run down the right and placed a perfect cross onto the toe of an oncoming Matilde in the centre.
Tiberio kept his team in it with a brilliant double save from Pietro / Ivan but, a little later, he could do nothing to stop Ivan who used his pace to outstrip the defence and equalise with a well-placed shot.
But Lapo responded immediately with another mazy dribble and he crowned this one off with a goal.
Tiberio made two more excellent saves - one from Ivan, one from Theo - and, at the other end, Gabeen made a great save off a Matilde header.
Ivan looked to be through on goal again near the end but a cynical handball from Alina stopped the move. Alina was sent off but her personal sacrifice probably saved the victory!

8V 6-1 8F

The final scoreline is unjustly harsh on 8F, who played well and were certainly not 5 goals off the pace.
Early goals from Manfredi, Alessandro and Giuseppe made it seem easy for 8V but Niccolo', Ivan and Lucrezia were creating lots of problems for 8V in defence.
Niccolo' in particular forced good saves from Federico and Giuseppe today and also hit the bar twice, once with an amazing bicycle kick that would have been a candidate for Goal of the Season.
Hope for 8F came from an unexpected source when Ivan finished off a good team move but Alessandro (1) and Manfredi (2) put the final nails in the coffin.

13.9.17

8T 2-3 8V

Only ten seconds into the new season and the first goal arrived: Manfredi shot hard from 15 meters and Tiberio was unable to keep it out.
8T equalised with a superb cross-shot from Matilde but Manfredi restored his team's lead and Alessandro extended it.
Just when the match seemed to be over, Lapo made a fantastic run through the opposing defence and was cynically chopped down by Peter. Lapo went off injured, Peter was sent off, Matilde converted the penalty but 8V held on to win.
