Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City

Player of the Match Points: Lucie 5, Vale 5, Angelica 3, Ran 2, Celeste 2, Beatriz 1, Gaia 1.

Juventus 1-2 Milan

Without Riccardo G, Nicholas and Luca R, i bianconeri were overwhelmed by an in-form Milan and lose out on the final, which will b contested by Sampdoria and Milan.
Juve will play off for Third Place against Lazio next Friday.
Sasha rewarded his team for all their early play when he scored from a corner. He continued to combine well with Noah G and scored a second goal with a beautifully-curled shot from a free kick.
Edo P escaped his markers to knock a goal in before half time to keep Juve in the game.
Sasha had a great chance to complete his hat-trick when Alfonso set him up but no goals were added in the second half.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Sasha 5, Giacomo 4, Noah G 3, Mateo 3, Alfonso 2, Jacopo S 1, Thomas 1,  Jacopo M 1, Artur 1

12.11.14

Sampdoria 5-0 Lazio

Lazio kept their genovese opponents at bay for most of the first half but then Luka, under pressure from Stuart and Guerrino, played a sloppy ball across the area and Sam nipped in to take full advantage.
In the second half, the floodgates opened: Gabriele made it 2-0, Stuart, 3-0, Guerrino played in Sam for 4-0 and Stuart scored the fifth.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Gabriele 5, Guerrino 5, Stuart 5,  Taro 3, Pietu 2, Sam 1, Ascanio 1,

31.10.14

Milan 3-2 Lazio

A thrilling game adorned by some fantastic goals entertained a sell-out crowd at Ambrit Stadium today.
Francesco R got things off to a breath-taking start when he nonchalantly flicked a pass into the top corner with his heel.
Milan rallied quickly however and Noah Gallo walloped home an equaliser with his left foot before half time.
Noah struck again in the second half, another well-struck shot from, this time with his left which rattled into the top corner past a bewildered Octavio. The action rocked to and fro and Lazio threatened to equalise until Ramnath stepped up to meet a ball in midfield and his shot thundered off the crossbar, off the goalkeeper and in!
Lazio continued to press and Francesco nabbed a second to give his team some hope of a draw, but time ran out and i rossoneri triumphed.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edo J 6, Noah G 5, Giacomo 4, Francesco R 2, Zeno 2, Ludo 1, Alex V 1

Manchester City 1-1 Chelsea

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Valentina 5, Elizabeth 5, Margarida 3, Celeste 3, Sofia 2, Lea 1, Anna 1, Helena 1.

29.10.14

Sampdoria 3-1 Fiorentina

An open, attacking game ended with another victory for Sampdoria.
Fiorentina took the lead when an Edo R corner was fumbled by an otherwise excellent Ascanio.
Filippo Gigli equalised before half-time, his determination and physical presence paying off, and Sam made it 2-1 when he followed up a rebound off another Filippo shot.
In the second half, Stuart was everywhere and controlled the game for his team. Sam added a third right at the end.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Filippo G 4, Ascanio 4, Stuart 3, Sam 2, Grant 1, Filippo C 1, Filippo T 1, Taro 1, Gabriele 1, Michael 1, Guerrino 1, Andrew Cr 1

27.10.14

Manchester City - Chelsea 0-0

BOYS SOCCER: St George's 7-3 Ambrit

After last week's heavy defeat, the Ambrit boys did very well today to keep St George's in check and bring home a result that was, at least, better than Roma's against Bayern!
Playing 11 vs 11, Stuart had another great game and opened the scoring after 10 minutes with the first of a hat-trick of goals that were all photocopies of each other. He galloped up the left wing, leaving three defenders in his wake, and scored with a well-placed shot across the goalkeeper in to the bottom right corner.
St George's fought back and equalised when Ambrit failed to close down a loose midfielder and his shot was too high for Michael.
Ambrit's tight defending was frustrating the hosts. Sam, on the right of midfield, kept the dangerous No 10 in check; Mateo moved inside to do a job on the No 12 and Pietu cleaned up everything else.
Going forward, Ambrit were dangerous when Stuart got the ball and he put his side 2-1 up after 18 minutes. But te lead did not last until half-time. St George's equalised and then went 3-2 up, due mainly to Ambrit's failure to clear dangerous balls quickly.
The second half was a different story. St George's took over and only Stuart managed to get a shot in: he scored again.
MAN of the Match: Pietu & Stuart
Ambrit team: Michael (Octavio); Mateo (Grant), Pietu, Andrew, Filippo T (Ramnath); Sam, Luca, Francesco, Stuart; Filippo G, Nicholas (Giovanni)

Fiorentina 0-1 Lazio

A very disappointing match was settled by just one goal and the low score was due more to ineffective attacking play than to strong defending.
Francesco R took his goal well and then Lazio cynically defended their lead for all of the second half.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Ludovico 3, Luka 2, Francesco R 2, Alex 2, Filippo C 2, Grant 1, Andrew Crossley 1, Pietu 1, Francesco C 1, Max 1, Noah I 1, Emil 1, Riccardo 1, Octavio 1, Michael 1

15.10.14

Juventus 6-3 Fiorentina

Fiorentina 'Rattazzitata'!
With 5 goals in this game, Nicholas gifted three points to his team and rockets to the top of the scoring charts.
Juve's victory epended on Nicholas's classic display of goal poaching married to some clever attacking play and he was well supported by Riccardo G who scored the team's other goal.
Riccardo F and Filippo were rewarded for their determined performances with two an done goals respectively, but they take no points away from this game.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Nicholas 6, Riccardo G 4, Riccardo F 3, Jacopo M 2, Luca R 2, Filippo 1, Giovanni 1, Artur 1, Tristano 1

10.10.14

Sampdoria 1-1 Milan

A game short on excitement finished goalless at half-time.
In the second half, a determined Guerrino looked to have won it with a low cross-shot through a crowd of defenders and past an unsighted Zeno.
But Alfonso, who has been chasing balls all afternoon, finally had a stroke of luck near the end when Gabriele slipped and left him one-on-one against Ascanio in goal. Alfonso buried it.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Giacomo 5, Guerrino 3, Ramnath 2, Taro 2, Ascanio 2, Alfonso 2, Gabriele 2, Stuart 1, Filippo B 1, Mateo 1

9.10.14

Chelsea 1-0 Arsenal

Arsenal, without their charismatic captain Angelica, succumbed to the superior pace and firepower in the Chelsea attack.
Solid defending and solid goalkeeping kept the scoring to a minimum and only Margarida was able to break it down.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Margarida 5, JuNa 3, Ran 3, Chiara 2, Leila EZ 2, Anna 2, Sophie 1, Sofia 1, Ginevra 1, Gaia 1

8.10.14

Juventus 4-0 Lazio

Without star striker Noah I, Lazio were demolished by Juventus in their opening match.
Lazio defended well early on and managed to keep Edo P away from the goal, but they couldn't keep it up for the whole first half and Edo first found room on the right (1-0) and then on the left (2-0) to leave Lazio'a match plan in tatters.
Lazzio came out to attack in the second half but, after only 3 minutes, they were caught on the break and Riccardo made it 3-0. Fantastic defending by captain Luca R kept Lazio scoreless.
Edo P could have had his hat-trick when he had a free header in the penalty area but he did eventually add a third goal to complete an impressive win for Juventus.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edo P 6, Luca R 4, Luka D 3, Francesco R 2, Octavio 1, Andrew Coleman 1, Pietu 1, Max 1, Alex K 1, Artur 1

3.10.14

Fiorentina 2-2 Milan

A thrilling game today at Ambrit stadium kept the crowd enthralled right to the end.
Early on, Noah G served notice that he was in form when he got past the defense on the right and shot wide from a narrow angle when he might have passed.
At the other end, Andrew had two chances: one went over and he scuffed the second one when he only had the keeper to beat.
Riccardo broke the deadlock just before half time when Ramnath failed to hold his near post shot.
Early in the second half, Noah Gallo equalized when a cross from the right beat the whole defense.
He had another chance soon after but Lucrezia made a great save.
For Fiorentina, Filippo hit the post and then Riccardo should have scored from the rebound but he blasted wide. Alex had a chance for Milan but Andrew stopped him with a great tackle.
Fiorentina took the lead when Mateo allegedly handled in the area and Filippo converted the penalty. But Milan came back again when Noah G scored with his head from a throw in.
Best player points: Noah G 5, Riccardo 3, Filippo C 3, Alex V 2, Tommaso R 2, Giacomo 2, Andrew Crossley 2, Zeno 1, Alfonso 1

BOYS SOCCER: Ambrit - St George's 2-5 (at least....!)

St George's brought a crack team of 8th graders and gave Ambrit a runaround on their home pitch today.

FIRST HALF (Ambrit 1-4 St George's)
St Georg's played an excellent passing game, ball on the ground all the time, ball back to the 'keeper when needed, lots of movement off the ball. Ambrit chased them.
Michael began slowly and was taken by surprise for two goals but he finished the half strongly and kept out a few shots that seemed certain to go in.
Luca had difficulty finding the right position early on too, but when he put more pressure on his opposite number, he cut out the threat from midfield more effectively.
Stuart was always a threat going forward and it was he who nabbed Ambrit's goal; he also hit the crossbar just before the break.
But it was Pietu, playing in the centre of Ambrit's defence, who was our best player today by far.
Great positioning, strong tackling, quick clearances: fantastic performance.
1st half team: Michael; Alex K, Pietu, Max; Luca R (capt), Francesco R, Noah G; Stuart.

SECOND HALF (Ambrit 1-10 St George's)
A more inexperienced team had great trouble containing St George's in the second half. Stuart came back on to rescue a consolation goal for Ambrit.
2ndhalf team: Octavio; Mateo, Andrew, Filippo T; Laith, Sam, Alex V (Noah I); Giovanni.

Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal

Two strong goalkeepers, two strong defences and two sets of attackers full of energy but with little communication all contributed to a goalless start to the Girls' intramural.
Arsenal looked the stronger tea, for most of the game, with a focused Ran trying to bring her team mates into the game with some good passing. Eilidh took up some good positions in the first half but she drifted out of the game later on.
the best chance of the game fell to Greta near the end but her shot was well-saved by Anastasia.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Ran 5, Noemi 3, Celeste 2, Beatrice 2, Lucie 2, Chiara 2, Greta 1, Eilidh 1, Sophie 1, Leila EZ 1, Angelica 1

1.10.14

Sampdoria 3-2 Juventus

The new intramural championship got off to a fantastic start with a thrilling encounter between two of the favourites.
After the initial jousting, it was Stuart who put his side up with a trademark thunderbolt that saw the ball slam into the net, almost accompanied by Luca's head.
Sampdoria - today without their captain, Jacopo - tried hard to fight back back but Ascanio made some great saves.
Samp went two down early in the second half when Thomas handled in the area and allowed Filippo G to open his account. The pattern of the game remained the same though, with Juve looking to get the ball to Edoardo P as often as possible while Sampdoria had more options up front with Stuart, Filippo G and Sam full of running.
Sampdoria went 3-0 up when Filippo nipped in front of a defender to flick home a seemingly harmless ball from midfield.
But then, just when Juve looked dead, Edo P threaded his way through the defence and scored. On a wave of new-found enthusiasm, they re-doubled their efforts and were rewarded again when an Edo pass fell to Andrew Coleman in the area. Andrew cooly controlled the ball and scored.
But, in the end, Juve ran out of time and Sampdoria took all three points.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Filippo G 4, Ascanio 3, Stuart 2, Gabriele 2, Jacopo S 2, Edo P 2, Thomas 1,  Jacopo 1,  Andrew Coleman 1,  Luca R 1, Guerrino 1, Taro 1

St. George's - Ambrit 2-1 (Girls)

Ci faremo trovare pronti!!!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Celeste.

FINAL: 8T 2-3 6M

Gabriele showed early on that 6M meant business when he found some space on the left and shot home for 1-0.
Riccardo had a chance to equalise but shot over and then Gabriele struck again: 2-0.
8T came out strongly in the second half. Filippo missed a chance from a throw in and then turned an overhead kick over the bar but 8T pulled a goal back when Jacopo converted a penalty following a Thomas's handball.
A controversial attempt by Luca was disallowed at the end for a foul on the goalkeeper, but not everybody agreed with the decision.
Congratulations to 6M - T H E    N E W    H O M E R O O M   C H A M P I O N S

22.9.14

8T 1-1 7V (4-3 after penalties)

7V were leading 1-0 and 8T had one foot out of the competition when Nicholas, with an open goal in front of him, somehow managed to hit the post instead of the back of the net.

In the second half, Zeno replaced Octavio in goal and made a couple of fine saves. 8T then found themselves a man down,  Jacopo sent off for a handball that might have denied the winner to 7V but Noah G's free kick was blocked. Finally, Riccardo saved his team again, as he had done in round 1, scoring a goal that sent the tie to a penalty shoot-out.
It was a case of going from Hero to Villain for Nicholas. Having scored his side's goal early in the second half and having played a good game throughout, his miss turned out to be crucial.
8T thought they had equalised before half time, but Referee's assistant Calento spotted a foul on Octavio as Ludovico shot home.

Guerrino, after having played an excellent match, saw his penalty fly high over the bar and it is 8T who will face 6M on Wednesday.missed a great chance to eliminate.

18.9.14

SEMI-FINAL: 6M 2-1 6A

Will anyone score a better goal this year than Edoardo P's opener? Picking the ball up in his own half, Edo beat two players and finished up just over the half way line and hugging the right touchline. Glancing up at full speed to check Ascanio's position in goal, he launched a perfectly-flighted shot into the top- left-hand corner of the goal: Golazoooooooo!
6A fought back determinedly and equalised with another top-quality goal. Alfonso made a terrific run down the right, beating three players on the way, and then cut back a perfect ball into the path of Ascanio who slotted it home from three meters out.
The second half was dominated by 6M but they could not score, thanks to fantastic defending by 6A, until Edo P struck again near the end, taking advantage of a goalmouth scramble to poke the ball past an unsighted goalkeeper.

17.9.14

8C 1-1 7V (4-5 after penalties)

Early threats from Stuart (8C) and Noah (7) came to nothing and it was left to Luka to break the deadlock with a superbly-timed header just before half-time.
8C looked to control the game in the second half and they succeeded... until the last minute. Sofia made a fantastic double save but was let down by her defence, who failed to pick up the rebound from her second save; Noah pounced on the loose ball to equalise.
Alex's miss in the shoot-out was fatal.

12.9.14

8T 2-0 7P

Despite the questionable tactics imposed on the team by their antipodean coach, 7P gave 8T a good run for their money before succumbing to the killer blow of Riccardo's second half goal.
Having already secured a first half lead through a Ludovico header, 8T absorbed a second half onslaught and the trio of girls at the back kept their team in the game.
Filippo C was a constant threat going forward and he dragged the opposing defence al over the place, opening up opportunities for his team-mates, one of which was converted by Riccardo, who then wasted the rest of his energy in a flamboyant celebration.

11.9.14

6M 3-1 7F

A thrilling encounter today saw the younger team progress to the semi-finals after a well-deserved victory over their older opponents.
Experience counted for little for 7F as 6M put together an excellent team performance: they were solid in defence, determined in midfield and inventive in attack.
Edo P set up Lorenzo in front of goal three times and Lorenzo took one of the oopportunities to put his side 1-0 in front. Francesco C battled well and managed to equalise for his team before half time. When Matteo handled the ball on the line, the crowd gasped in disbelief as referee Corcoran waved play on.
For a while, early in the second half, 7F threatened but then 6M began to take over again. Quick and dangerous on the break, they were always likely to score and Edo P eventually did. The last-minute penalty awarded for a push enabled Edo R to put the result beyond doubt.

10.9.14

6W 2-2 6A, 6A win after penalty shoot-out

An exciting start to the new season saw Alfonso put 6A ahead early in the first half. Edoardo then equalised and put his team in front before time and 6W could have been further ahead were it not for some good saves by Ascanio in goal.
6A swapped goalkeepers in the 2nd half; now Tristano played extremely well between the sticks and Ascanio gave his team an extra edge going forward. In fact it was Ascanio who took advantage of an excellent pass from Alfonso to score the goal that made it 2-2.
This match gaves us a chance to see some new players in action in the Middle School and many of them impressed. In particular, and apart from those already mentioned, well done to Chiara, Helene, Anna, Taro, Francesco, Riccardo.

HOMEROOM CHAMPIONSHIP: Quarter Final, 7DT 1-1 7F

Another quarter final ends in penalties thanks to Jacopo's richly-deserved last minute equalizer.
Having gone behind to a first-half strike from Stuart, 7DT fought like tigers to avoid elimination at the first hurdle. Tommaso had a good first half on the right, Sofia played well in midfield and the best early chance fell to DT but Lucrezia made a fantastic save. At the other end, Anastasia also kept out an early attempt by Stuart but she was beaten to the ball when Stuart opened the scoring.
7DT piled forward in the second half and Luca was kept busy, clearing and tackling and organizing. In the end, after another great Lucrezia save, Jacopo ducked in from the right and his low shot caught Lucrezia on the wrong foot.
Penalty shoot out on Monday at lunch time to decide who will face 8C in Tuesday's semi-final.

HOMEROOM CHAMPIONSHIP, Quarter Final: 8C 2-2 8T

8C, hot favourites for this year's title, almost fell at the first hurdle when Joshua - making his last appearance on the soccer pitch, slipped in at the back post just before half time to put 8T 2-1 ahead at the interval.
It had all begun so well for 8C when Alessio put them 1-0 up early on and the seemed to have the match under control. But then Joshua and Alex combined on the right and Alex, after a mazy, brazilian-like run through the defence, scored the equalizer. It was Alex again who punctured the 8C defence - this time on the left - to supply Joshua with the perfect pass.
Marco took over in teh second half for 8C but Jonny came on for 8T and turned up everywhere in defence to foil him. It looked like 8C would crash out until four minutes from the end when 8C finally grabbed the equaliser. Penalties tomorrow!

BOYS FINAL: Chile 4-8 Australia

A high-scoring final was dominated by the Aussies and Mediterranean Cup top-scorer, Filippo C, nabbed five goals to take the top scorer's trophy yet again.
In the first half, despite some excellent defending by Filippo T, Filippo C scored a quick hat-trick. Mattia replied with a cracking shot from outside the area but Giovanni added a fourth before half time.
Australia's superior passing and good defending from Matteo, Tommaso and Alex K, and from Octavio in goal, kept them in front in the second half and Ale dF's late arrival gave them more options going forward. Filippo C made it 5-1 before Chile tried to come back into the game. Mattia added another and Alessio was rewarded with a goal too and, at 5-3, there was a glimmer of hope for the South Americans. But it was extinguished quickly. Jacopo made it 6-3 and then 7-3; Mattia struck again to make it 7-4 but Filippo C had the last word with his best goal of the day: an unstoppable volley from the edge of the area.

GIRLS' FINAL: Mexico - Croatia 0-0 (6-5 after penalties)

Che grande finale! Quante emozioni!
Brave tutte!

Australia managed to stop Stuart from getting any shots on target, striking four times themselves past Ambrit's first-choice goalkeeper and winning the right to face Chile in Friday's final.
An early goal from Filippo C (contested by Cristian and by a rowdy section of the onlooking crowd) set the tone and put Netherlands on the back foot. Tough defending from Zahir and co. kept the score at 1-0 though until Giovanni found the net with a well-timed volley and sent the Aussies in 2-0 at half time. It might have been three had referee Corcoran given a penalty against Zahir for a rash challenge on Filippo in the area but Zahir got away with it (again!).
The Dutchmen pulled one back early in the second half through Lorenzo: just reward for a gritty performance. But stretching for an equaliser left them open at the back and Australia took advantage: first when Jacopo scored after a beautifully-timed run onto a Filippo pass; and again when Filippo scored after a beautifully-timed run onto a Matteo pass.

Boys Semi-Final: Chile 3-2 Spain

Mattia missed an early chance in a first half where scoring chances were rare. Chile slowly began to dominate and Umberto put his team 1-0 up after 6 minutes. Some of the more experienced players on the pitch then looked on as Artur made it 2-0 with a clinical finish. Joao came close to scoring shortly afterwards but it was Joshua who struck next: 3-0 at the interval. Game over?
No! Alex clawed one back early in the second half to open up the game. Filippo hit  apost and then scored to make it 3-2 but it was all too late.

BOYS' SOCCER: St George's 7-5 Ambrit

A thrilling encounter full of goals ended in victory for the home side after Ambrit had held a half-time lead.
The visitors got off to a great start and Marco almost scored in the first minute. Joshua too had an early chance when Alessio found him with a good pass and Ambrit finally did score through Marco in the 4th minute.
Losing the early initiative, Ambrit allowed the hosts back into the game and they equalised in the 12th minute when a long shot bounced badly and tricked Christian. But St George's weren't level for long. Ambrit surged back into attack and Marco played in Joshua who made it 2-1 in the 13th minute and Marco himself made it 3-1 a minute later.
In the 17th minute, Christian saved a powerful shot but St George's were first to the rebound: 3-2. Jonathan had a couple of good efforts from long range before half time and William should have scored to finish off a great move involving Joshua and Alessio but Ambrit went in at half time with a slender one goal advantage.
Ambrit's slow start to the second half was punished after 5 minutes and St George's more aggressive approach was rewarded with a goal: 3-3. A minute later, Lorenzo set up Joshua with a good chance but he kicked it wide. St Georg's however were taking over in midfield and they went 4-3 up after 11', 5-3 after 14' and 6-3 after 18'.
Fair play to Ambrit though. They found a new lease of life and battled back a minute later, Lorenzo whacking in a ball from Marco. In the 20th minute, Alessio missed a sitter and St George's broke away to make it 7-4. Ambrit's last compensation came when Marco scored yet another goal following a good pass from Joshua.

Spain 2-0 Italy

Italy threw away the chance to pick up their first points of the season, missing a plethora of chances in the second half and conceding an easy goal in each half to a lucky Spain who finished the match one player down after captain Jiaqi was sent off for a reckless challenge.

Australia 2-2 Netherlands

The spoils were shared today but a point is more useful to Zahir than to Alex.
Ale dF put his team ahead after receiving a good pass from Giovanni; Stuart equalised with a trademark shot that zipped in from the left.
An in-form Alex almost put his side ahead again after the break but Christian intervened to keep the teams level. However, Ale struck again to put the Aussies one up. Three points beckoned but Stuart hadn't given up yet. On another of his breaks down the wing, he managed to scramble the ball back across the area and then followed up to put the ball in the back of the net when Octavio struggled to smother the ball.
