Spring Intramural

As the players go into a well-earned Christmas break, managers and agents now begin a hectic round of negotiations that will culminate in January's transfer market.
Deals will be finalised on Wednesday January 8th, when the captains gather to finalise their strategies.
Big money transfers are likely to involve Cristian and Dylan, Ameli and Flavia - all winners of the top scorer or best player prizes in December.
But shrewd captains will also be looking for bargains from lower down the points table to complete their squads with a balance of muscle and talent and the right mix of defence and attack.

As usual, a seventh team joins the Boys league in Spring and this seventh team - Fiorentina - will be a team of girls who are looking for extra practice as the Med Cup looms in early May.
Matches involving Fiorentina will be 8 girls versus 6 boys, with the boys limited to three touches.

Palermo 6 - 5 Verona

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Flavia 4, Liva 4, Naomi 4, Alice 3, Carolina F 2, Carolina S 2, Myla 1, Allegra 1.

BOYS FINAL: Real Madrid 2-1 Liverpool

A nervous and frenetic final match saw Real overcome Liverpool to spark christmas celebrations in Madrid.
Thrown by the absence of Santiago in goal, Liverpool started uncertainly and Massimo M capitalised quickly with an early goal. Dylan added a second after 6' and Liverpool now had to chase the game. Klopp's men were unable to impose any pattern however and Cristian's free-kick goal was one of very few chances. Real held on for a deserved victory.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Guillermo 4, Alex 4, Massimo M 3, Augusto 3, Cristian 3, Dylan M 2, Valerio 1, Bernardo 1

16.12.19

Boys' Third Place Final: Milan 1-0 Ajax

This match started late but the teams packed a lot of action into their 10' on the pitch.
Massimo S made two extraordinary saves to deny Nikos and Pietro shot wide more than once. Milan lost Andrea when he was red-carded for a reckless challenge on Sam and Milan finally made teh breakthrough when Paul pounced on William's assist.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Paul 6, Dylan S 5,  Massimo S 4, Pietro 3, Sam 2, Nikos 1

12.12.19

3rd PLACE FINAL: Empoli 2-0 Perugia

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Yutong 4, Ameli 4, Lucy 4, Agata 3, Atena 2, Isabel 1, Giorgia 1, Chanel 1, Linh 1.

SF2 Penalties: Liverpool 5-4 Ajax

11.12.19

Boys' Semi-final 2: Liverpool 1-1 Ajax

Favourites Liverpool were held to a draw by an in-form Ajax and will face a penalty competition tomorrow to decide who will face Real Madrid in next week's final.
A poor game with few clear-cut chances. Valerio confirmed his recent form with another good game in midfield and his was the assist to Cameron for the opening goal.
Patriot played well and his super-long throw-in found Nikos in space for the equaliser.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Cristian 4, Giacomo 3, Pietro 3, Valerio 3, Joel 2, Nikos 2, Sam 2, Cameron 1, Giorgio 1

Boys' Semi-Final 1: Real Madrid 4-2 Milan

Galvanised by the return from injury of Captain Guillermo, Real beat Milan today in the early kick-off and progress to next week's final.
It was Milan who took an early lead when Paul played a lovely one-two with Dylan S before shooting home. Guillermo equalised very quickly and brother Miguel shot Real into a 2-1 lead with a opportunistic strike from inside the penalty area.
Andrea was unlucky to see his shot rebound off the post before Guillermo scored from a free kick to make it 3-1. Dylan S's determination was rewarded with a goal soon after and Milan still had a chance... but Guillermo spotted Massimo S off his line and completed his hat-trick with a fantastic goal, shooting from the edge of his own penalty area!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Guillermo 5, Paul 3, Dylan S 2, Alex 2, Augusto 2, Francesco 1, Miguel 1, Raffaele 1, Dylan M 1, Massimo S 1, Massimo M 1, Andrea 1

6.12.19

Ajax 2-0 Bayern

Bayern exit the tournament; Ajax march on to the semi-finals where they will face Liverpool.
Nikos scored a good goal early on; Alberto scored a second and they both combined in a beautiful move that saw Alberto's shot rebound off the bar. Giorgio should have added a third and Matia had a good chance at the other end.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Sam 4, Alberto 3, Pietro 3, Giorgio 3, Nikos 2, Joel 2, Ludo 1, Saverio 1, Jonah 1, Cesare 1

5.12.19

Palermo 1-0 Verona

An absorbing contest at Ambrit Stadium today as Palermo's possession-based game was challenged by Verona's quick-breaking style.
Palermo created lots of chances but shots from Alice, Eleonora and Liva were consistently saved by an excellent Allegra. Verona broke frequently and they too got some shots on target, notably from Naomi and Carolina but Myla too was in form: Carolina almost gave Verona the lead when Myla fumbled the ball before recovering to keep it out.
Palermo's winner arrived near the end of the game. Alice dribbled through the Verona defence and squared the ball towards Liva. Allegra got a hand to it but the ball slipped past her and Liva helped it over the line!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Alice 5, Allegra 3, Naomi 3, Eleonora 3, Liva 2, Sofia 1, Marisa 1, Camila 1, Flavia 1, Carolina S 1

VERONA sill qualify for the final; the finished on equal points with EMPOLI but, in their head-to-head match, Verona were the winners.

GIRLS 3rd place play off: EMPOLI versus PERUGIA
GIRLS FINAL: PALERMO vs VERONA

4.12.19

Milan 4-0 Real Madrid

Despite a fantastic goalkeeping performance from Bernardo, an out-of-form Real was destroyed today by a majestic Milan who race into the semi-finals with confidence.
Dylan's opening and closing goals sandwiched two from captain Paul but both goalkeepers played well too; Massimo S made one great save to stop his namesake from scoring but Bernardo made at least three excellent stops, including one spectacular dive to his right to foil Dylan.
These two teams will meet again in the semi-finals: will Guillermo be fit??
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Dylan S 4, Bernardo 3, Augusto 3, Paul 3, Andrea 2, Adriano 2, Francesco 2, Massimo M 1, Alex 1, Massimo S 1

29.11.19

Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona

Barcelona lose today in El Clasico and now must wait to see the result between Ajax vs Bayern next Friday: if Ajax can avoid defeat, then they will qualify for the semi-finals with Barcelona missing out!
Real were deadly on the break today and Alex put them in front. After his splendid goal yesterday, Massimo M was looking to score again today but he missed two good chances. But Alex didn't miss when he found space 20m out and his shot into the top corner was a thing of beauty. Tommaso G pulled one back for Barcelona to give them some hope but time ran out and Real took the points.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Alex 5, Augusto 4, Bernardo 2, Tommy G 2, Tommy S 2, Mateo 2, Theo 1, Massimo M 1, Dylan 1, Lucas 1

28.11.19

Bayern 2-2 Real Madrid

These two teams really tore into each other today and a packed Ambrit Stadium was entranced for 30'.
Edo put the German champions ahead but their celebrations were short-lived as Massimo M launched a long shot straight from the kick-off that dropped in just under the bar to level the scores. Real then took the lead when a fiercely struck free kick was bravely headed in by Dylan and it was left to Edo to rescue his team again - this time with a cheeky goal that saw him nip in to take advantage of a moment's confusion in the Bayern defence.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edo 6, Dylan M 3, Augusto 3, Mikel 2, Massimo M 2, Ludovico 1, Saverio 1, Richard 1, Adam 1, Alex 1

ANSPI u13: Ambrit 2-3 Vigna Pia

Under torrential rain, the result of this match wavered back and forth but, ultimately, some bad defensive errors cost Ambrit three points and a lot of pride in this keenly contested derby.
Vigna Pia took an early lead but Alessandro struck a beautiful shot with his left-foot to secure an equaliser. Both sides created a lot of chances but, once again, Ambrit's finishing was below standard. We got lots of shots in but many were wide. Free kicks and corners were wasted. Zach had three good chances but none were made to count, though one was denied by a miraculous save frpom the goalkeeper. The same goalkeeper made two extraordinary saves from Alessandro shots but Vigna Pia went ahead again. It was left to Alessandro to rescue the team again. He did. 2-2.... but Vigna Pia finished strongly. They burst through to score a winning goal and Ambrit were unable to equalise a third time.
TEAM: Santiago, Leo, Vittorio, Carlo, Mattia, Alessandro, Zach, Bertie, Tiago, Nicholas

27.11.19

Liverpool 1-0 Milan

Milan and Liverpool fought out an excellent match today and i rossoneri were unlucky to lose out to a late Giacomo goal.
Of course, Liverpool might easily have wrapped the game up earlier, were it not for a series of brilliant saves by Massimo. He saved shots with his hands, with his knees, with his feet; he rushed oout to clear dangerous balls; he kept his team in the game. Captain Paul was everywhere too, tackling passing, driving his team forward when possible; and Dylan and Andrea combined well in the last third.
But Liverpool were too strong for them in the end. Cristian was hungry for the ball and Giacomo and Valerio were always making runs to support him. Giacomo’s goal was a reward for persistence; he slammed home the third rebound off three Massimo saves.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Paul 5, Massimo S 5, Cristian 5, Giacomo 3, Valerio 1, Dylan S 1, Pedro 1, Andrea, 1

ANSPI u13: Santos 4-2 Ambrit

With only six players against seven and playing away from home, Ambrit put up a good performance and might easily have won this game. Despite being a man short, Ambrit dominated possession and spent most of the game attacking.
The home side exploited the space well on the break and scored two early goals with quick breaks as Ambrit were still settling in.
Undaunted, Ambrit pressed high. Ale fed Mattia and Zach with lots of passes and Mattia's speed on the right opened up some chances. Santos resorted to fouls. Ale shot a free kick wide to the right but, with the next one, Vittrio drilled the ball low past the goalkeeper: 1-2 at the first break.
Unfortunately Santos began the second break as they had begun the first and Ambrit soon found themselves 4-1 down. But Ambrit came back again and Zach was terribly unlucky when the goalkeeper made an incredible save from his close-range header. But Zach kept niggling at the defenders and goalkeeper and it paid off when he made it 4-2 from a corner.
Ambrit now had 15' left to pull back two goals. They gave it everything. Mattia almost scored with a header, Carlo made sure the ball never passed the halfway line, Santiago - nominally in goal - played as a sweeper and kept the momentum high. Ale and Vittorio combined set up lots of chances but Santos managed to keep them at bay by blocking shots, by tackling, by fouling and by their goalkeeper making two more excellent saves.
TEAM: Santiago, Vittorio, Carlo, Alessandro, Zach, Mattia

20.11.19

Empoli 2-1 Perugia

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Agata 3, Yutong 3, Gala 2, Ameli 2, Raffaella 1, Chanel 1, Linh 2, Lucy 1, Millie 1, Isabel 1.

Milan 5-0 Bayern

Bayern offered little opposition today to a rampant Milan, driven by Paul (2 goals) and Dylan (3 goals).
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Dylan 6, Paul 5, Ludovico 3, Francesco 3, Taki 2, Jonah 1, Mattia 1

17.11.19

Ambrit Boys Top of the Table

In the season's opening round of u14 RISA league fixtures, Ambrit took full points with five wins out of five games and now sit comfortably at the top of the table. Santiago was a rock in goal but still needs to be more dominant; in front of him, the defence (Augusto, Sam, Massimo, Lucas) coped well but they do need to improve their heading skills. Alex protected the defence and passed well but needs to work on his left-foot; Andrea and Raffaele worked the left flank, the former in particular punching regular holes in the opposing defence. Tommaso and Edo ran patterns all day, controlling the ball, jinking past opponents, passing and shooting with accuracy and power.

Ambrit 2-1 New School
The first game was crucial, a tough opener against last year's champions New School. Ambrit absorbed some early pressure and then took the lead through Tommaso. The game was keenly contested but Ambrit got some breathing space when Andrea made it 2-0. Ambrit were under pressure for the last few minutes. NSR pulled one back but Ambrit hung on!

Ambrit 1-0 Southlands
Despite constant pressure, despite a missed penalty and despite creating a million chances, it looked like Ambrit would never score in this game... but then, with just a couple of minutes left, Tommaso scored a stunning goal. Turning tightly past two defenders, he used dummy runs from Edo and Alex to carve a path past the last two defenders and fire the ball home. Geniale!

Ambrit 3-2 St George's
Again Ambrit dominated the opening exchanges but this time they were caught on the break and went behind. Another wave of Ambrit attacks brought a quick equaliser through Edoardo but, in this ding-dong battle, SGBIS went ahead again. However Ambrit were determined to get something from this game and they equalised again when Tommaso scored. The bonus came when Massimo was taken down in the penalty area and the captain himself stepped up to blast home the resulting penalty!

Ambrit 8-1 AOSR A
Andrea scored the first goal off Edoardo’s assist. Massimo got the second, assist from Edoardo. AOSR managed to get one in for the 2-1 but Ambrit responded with 5 more goals. Edoardo scored off an assist from Alex. Tommaso put in the fourth goal, followed by Alex and Edoardo scoring two more goals to finish with Edoardo putting in the final 8th goal.

Ambrit 3-1 AOSR B
With goals from Massimo off an Alex assist. Tommaso had two great goals - one from midfield shot straight to the goal.

15.11.19

Liverpool 4-1 Barcelona

Barcelona were without Mateo today but they still made it a competitive match; the 4-1 scoreline flattered Liverpool.
Cristian scored two early goals for the Reds - both from free kicks - and these two blows knocked the stuffing out of Barca. Giacomo struck with a beautifully-taken volley to make it 3-0 and Cristian hammered home his hat-trick. The Barcelona consolation goal was well-taken by Bertie, who calmly chipped it over an advancing Santiago.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Cristian 4, Giacomo 3, Tommaso G 3, Tommaso S 3, Santiago 2, Bertie 2, Valerio 2, Zach 1, Diego 1

Red Card for Andrea (pitch invasion) - misses next match

13.11.19

Real Madrid 2-1 Ajax

Without captain Guillermo, los galacticos still manage to pull off an important victory over Pietr's Dutch Meisters at Ambrit Stadium today.
Nikos was unlucky not to put his team in front when his cross/shot ecvaded everybody and came back off the inside of the post into Bernard's arms.
Instead it was Real who drew first blood following a fantastic series of passes between Alex and Dylan with Alex applying the finishing touch.
Nikos scored an equaliser with a trademark shot of precision into the top corner, giving the impression that he might easily have scored more. But he didn't and nor did Ajax play with enough urgency and, when Dylan popped up to make it 2-1, they could only look on with incredulity.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Sam 6, Alex 4, Dylan M 3, Pietro 3, Giorgio, Nikos, Lucas, Augusto, Massimo M

8.11.19

Real Madrid 3-2 Liverpool

After a series of mediocre games, these two teams finally fed the hungry spectators a banquet of football today in a match that swung first one way and then the other.
Los Merengues took the lead when Guillermo passed to Alex and the Trastevere Ace made no mistake. Liverpool re-doubled their efforts now to get back in the game and Giacomo's energy won them a lot of ball in midfield. But Madrid increased their lead when Dylan picked up a loose ball and flicked it home.
There was a slight whiff of desperation now as Liverpool attacked. Too many long balls were mopped up by Guillermo and Augusto was quick to attack any player in possession. But Liverpool did score. At the end of a concerted attack, Cristian played in Giacomo and, after the keeper had saved his shot, Santiago followed up to cooly slot home.
Invigorated, Liverpool continued to press. A well-taken corner was met perfectly by Cameron's head and the net bulged again.
Now only minutes remained but neither side would settle for a point. Both continued to attack but fortune was smiling on the Spanish Champions today. Alex won a ball on the right, squared to Massimo M on the left and his first time shot just inside the post gave Zach no chance at all.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Guillermo 4, Alex 3, Giacomo 3, Santiago 3, Cameron 2, Dylan 2, Cristian 2, Valerio 1, Massimo M 1

NOTE: Red cards for Marco, Mikel, Milo, Edo, Massimo S... all will miss next game

7.11.19

Palermo 0-0 Perugia

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Eleonora 5, Sofia 3, Liva 3, Millie 2, Atena 2, Alice M 2, Linh 1, Alice T 1, Giorgia 1, Chanel 1.

Perugia 0-0 Verona

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Chanel 4, Carolina S 2, Naomi 2, Allegra 2, Flavia 2, Giorgia 2.

ANSPI u13: Ambrit 6-0 CRIS

With CRIS having dominated last year's u11 league, Ambrit feared the worst when CRIS arrived for last night's match following Tuesday night's defeat to San Leonardo.
But we needn't have worried.
With a full squad, Ambrit settled quickly into the game, putting their opponents under pressure from the start. Alessandro scored early on to settle the nerves and, in a period dominated by the home side, Tiago made it 2-0 off an Ale assist.
Early in the second half, Alessandro stole the ball in midfield and thundered a shot off the post. Tiago forced the goalkeeper into two saves and then Alessandro made it 3-0 with a shot that rattled in off the bar.
Alessandro scored two more in the third period and Bertie got onto the scoresheet too. Ambrit now look forward with confidence to game 3: away to Santos, Fri Nov 15th, 18.00.

6.11.19

Barcelona 1-0 Bayern

A terrible game today: not much passing, not much shooting, not much excitement. One goal from Tommy was enough to decide the game.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Tommy G 4, Tommy S 3, Mateo 3, Theo 2, Edo 1, Ludo 1, Mikel 1, Adam 1, Mattia 1, Lorenzo 1, Bertie 1, Taki 1, Saverio 1

ANSPI u13: San Leonardo 2-0 Ambrit

Having wasted umpteen chances to score, nobody is quite sure how Ambrit contrived to lose this match.
Ale set the tone, hitting the post after only three minutes. Carlo tested the goalkeeper early on and, towards the end of the first period, Mattia tested him again and Zach hit the bar.
But the teams went in at the end of the first period at 0-0.
No change in the second period. Ale set up Bertie for an early chance but the goalkeeper was having a great game. He saved again from Vittorio, again from Carlo, Mattia hit the post AGAIN and then, totally out of the blue, Ambrit were caught on the break and the home team went 1-0 up!
In the third period, Ambrit continued to attack. Zach put a shot wide, Mattia missed an open goal... and then San Leonardo scored again.
Lots of lessons to be learned, on and off the field!
TEAM: Bertie, Vittorio, Carlo, Alessandro, Mattia, Zach

25.10.19

Ajax 0-1 Milan

Without captain Pietro, Ajax put up a brave fight but despite valuable contributions from guest players Amelie and Lucy, they were cruelly (but justly) defeated by a last-minute winner from Dylan.
Dylan had already shot wide twice and Andrea had spurned the two best chances of the game before they combined for the winning goal. Ajax defended valiantly but posed little threat up front.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Dylan 5, Sam 5, Paul 3, Giorgio 3, Nikos 2, Francesco 1, Joel 1, Andrea 1

17.10.19

Empoli 0-1 Verona

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Allegra 4, Ameli 3, Flavia 2,  Raffaella 2, Gala 2, Naomi 2, Carolina S. 1, Carolina F. 2, Yutong 1, Emma 1, Agata 1.

16.10.19

Milan 1-1 Barcelona

It looked like Barcelona were going to take three points today but Milan's persistence paid off in the end and honours were even.
Tommaso scored a goal early on, turning nicely inside he defender and onto his right foot for a shot that left Massimo stranded. Lorenzo should probably have sealed the game later on but his attempt at the far post crept wide. Milan, increasingly mobile up front with Dylan on the pitch but increasingly physical too (Andrea was booked for following through consistently on opponents) had quite a few chances but Theo had an excellent game and stopped them all. But Dylan's shot on 18' came back off the post and Andrea was on hand to tap it in.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Theo 5, Tommaso G 4, Dylan S 4, Andrea 2, Pedro 1, Francesco 1, Mateo 1, Paul 1, Massimo 1, Sebastian 1

11.10.19

Liverpool 5-0 Ajax

Without Captain Pietro, Ajax were crushed today by Klopp's Liverpool in front of a packed Kop. Cameron scored early on and, with a left-right combination, Cristian made it 3-0 after 10'. Ajax tried to free Sam and Nikos up front but their few shots were tame enough and easily dealt with by Santiago. Giacomo scored a fourth and Cameron a fifth.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Cristian 4, Giacomo 3, Valerio 3, Santiago 3, Cameron 2, Cesare 2, Sam 2, Alberto 1, Zach 1

5.10.19

Ambrit Boys Win RISA opener!

After an unpromising start, Ambrit got to the final and won this morning's tournament with a convincing display.
The morning's first game versus St George's finished 2-2; Edoardo twice pit his team in front but defensive distractions took their toll. Edoardo scored again against New School but the team caved in to their in-form opponents and limped to a 4-1 defeat.
In the second round of matches, Ambrit knew they had to take three points against St George's... and they did! This time it was Tommaso leading the way: he scored a hat-trick to put Ambrit 3-1 ahead and Edoardo scored the fourth. Mr Antonio now risked some turnover in the last game against New School and Ambrit lost.
However, Ambrit now lined up against New School in the final. After two 4-1 defeats, something special was needed. Ambrit produced. Every player turned in an improved performance. Tommaso scored; Edoardo scored, Ambrit won 2-1!
TEAM: Massimo M, Santiago, Augusto Massimo S, Edoardo, Tommaso, Marco, Alex, Mattia, Zach, Lucas, Raffaele

4.10.19

Liverpool 1-0 Bayern

Klopp's men put in a solid shift today to keep a hungry Bayern at bay and earn a valuable three points.
The FIGC (Federazione Intramural Giuoco Calcio) had a last minute disciplinary hearing to consider Totti's late appeal against Wednesday's red card and the suspended players were given permission to play in goal.
A fateful decision!
Cristian made some good saves but he also popped up to strike home a 9th minute free-kick - the only goal of the game.
With Edo playing in a very defensive position, Bayern managed nonetheless to create chances with good link up play from Mikel and Mattia, but no one could finish; Saverio came closest with a rasping shot off the bar.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Cristian 5, Edo 4, Mikel 3, Mattia 3, Santiago 3, Giacomo 2, Valerio 1

3.10.19

Empoli 0-0 Palermo

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Ameli 5, Alice M. 3, Eleonora 3, Agata 3, Alice T. 2, Yutong 2, Gala 1, Liva, Camila

2.10.19

Ajax 5-1 Barcelona

The Dutch champions came roaring out of the blocks today to dispatch a disorganised and disappointing Barcelona in Game 1 of the Autumn Intramural.
The first goal of this new campaign came from Nikos and then Mateo equalised almost immediately to give us the illusion of an even contest.
But Ajax played much better and they went back in front when Alberto headed in a superb goal off a Nikos corner.
Alberto, Pietro and Nikos added goals to wrap up the victory.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Nikos 7, Pietro 4, Alberto T 3, Sam 3, Tommaso G 2, Mateo 1, Jempy 1.

Teachers Shocked in 5-goal Thriller

Autumn Homeroom Champions completed a dream start to the year with a shock 3-2 win over the teachers in a packed Ambrit Stadium today.
Pietro gave his team the lead with a good finish but the teachers seemed to have the situation under control when Mr Piccolo finished off a good move, started by Mr Alessandro and continued by Mr Chad.
But 8G went back on the attack and some poor defensive organisation left Giacomo free to head the ball home to put 8G 2-1 ahead. Time was ticking by quickly and the teachers needed 'a helping hand'. Taki provided it, turning his body in the penalty area to clear a ball with his arm: penalty!
Mr Alessandro converted and now both sides went searching for a late winner. 8G found it. A midfield muddle finished with the ball at Tommaso's feet and, though his poor first touch drew the goalkeeper out, he managed to recover and slide the ball home to send the crowd wild!

6R 1-3 8G

For 15' minutes, the dream was alive and Mattia's opening goal for 6R sent Ambrit Stadium into a frenzy of celebration. 8G looked like they were in trouble. Yes, they made some chances but 6R closed them down well.
But then Pietro came back on and everything changed. He took on 6R single-handedly for his first goal and you could see the effect on the sixth graders: they were shattered. 8G now took advantage and ploughed into them... using their experience and physique to force their opponents back. Tommy'a second goal and Pietro's third gave 6R no way back into the game and 8G earn the right to test themselves against the Teacher's team on Friday!

An awful display from 7C today, were unable to deal with a rampant 8G that was well-organised and determined to salvage some G8 pride after yesterday's result. A fine headed goal from Taki and a powerful drive from Tommy sandwiched Pietro's second.

19.9.19

8T 0-1 6R

From a winning position, 8T managed to throw away a lead and then found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline when Alberto T managed to roll the ball past a beleaguered Joel right at the end.
To win the Autumn Homeroom Championship, you need talent, hard work, discipline and organization. 8T will surely have to question whether they had the last two: winning with a Paul goal, they were caught with an extra player on the pitch and the scoreline returned to 0-0. Heartened, 6R piled on attack after attack and, after Joel had kept them out for 20' with a heroic display of goalkeeping, Alberto finally managed to earn a historic win for 6R that sees them into next week's final!

18.9.19

6S 2-0 6V

With a goal and an assist to Lorenzo, Camila was the star of the show today. Nikos hit a post and, on the 6V team, Janice made some great saves and both Dylan and Bertie might have scored.

13.9.19

6R 3-0 6V

6R produced an electrifying display of football today which demolished 6V and sent a message to grade 8 for next week's semi-final.
Goals today from Santiago, Alice and Alberto but notable too some of the performances from 8V: Carolina, Bertie and Dylan all played well... Janice played superbly!
Mr Gianluca, interviewed after the game, said: "sono molto contento di vedere che la prima media e' pieno di ottime giocatrici; il futuro del cacio femminile a Ambrit sembra essere al sicuro!"

12.9.19

6R 2-0 6S

6R won this game twice!
Having been 3-0 up thanks to goals from Alice, Alberto and Mattia, the referee noticed that they had an extra player on the pitch and the score was brought back to 0-0.
But nothing much changed. 6R continued to dominate and the stats afterwards showed that they had 72% possession. They also had lots of shots on goal and Alice was first on the scoresheet again to put 6R 1-0 ahead. Cameron followed up with a second and 6S, reduced to a few ragged breakaway attempts, could do nothing to haul themselves back into the game.

11.9.19

7H 1-0 7M

Tommaso's goal after 11' decided the game and handed 2nd place in the G7 championship to 7H. 7M has more than their fair share of chances to equalise but a combination of profligate finishing, Massimo's goalkeeping and bad luck kept them scoreless.

6.9.19

7C 4-2 7H

7C sealed their place in the semi-finals with a second consecutive win and condemned 7H to a play-off next Wednesday versus 7M for second place in the G7 championship.
Massimo M scored first and the early goal seemed to immediately knock some of the confidence out of 7H. 7C were more dangerous throughout and, when 7H did get some shots in, Matteo made some fantastic saves to keep them out. Dylan added two goals; Massimo S got one back and, for a moment, a comeback seemed possible. But Alex PU scored a fourth and Tommy's goal was mere consolation

Yellow Cards so far:
Dylan (Friday)
Augusto (Thursday

7C 3-2 7M

Augusto's early goal - after only 20 seconds - set the scene for a cracking encounter in today's G7 opener. Both teams were intent on playing constructive, attacking football. 7M carved out three or four early chances but Massimo M in goal kept everything out until Mikel dribbled down the left, around Massimo and equalised.
The pace of the game never slowed and 7C took the lead again when Dylan shot from wide on the left; Sam made a fantastic recovery run and looked like he would clear but then somehow let the ball past him and into the net.
But 7M fought back again and deservedly equalised when Edo's deflected shot beat Massimo.
The referee signalled 1 minute to go... 60 seconds.... 59 of the passed without incident but, on the 60th, Dylan shot and scored to inflict a cruel defeat on a gallant 7M.

4.9.19

8T 2-1 8G

A tireless performance from Guillermo and a series of fantastic saves from Joel were two of the main reasons for 8T's historic win over 8G at Ambrit Stadium today.
Guillermo's early goal rocked 8G. They struggled to create chances early on and, when Giacomo did get through, Joel stopped him. 8G did eventually equalise when Pietro capped a mazy run with a shimmy that left Joel sitting down and Pietro rolled the ball in.
Another Guillermo shot put Cesare in trouble later on; Eleonora and Ludovico followed up: Ludo scored from the loose ball.
8G threw on Matteo and Tommaso. Both of them created chances. Tommaso hit the post. Matteo had a brilliant shot saved by Joel. 8G will play the G7 champions; 8T will take on G6.

Teachers 1-0 Grade 8

Another fine win for the teachers today against an excellent G8 team who tried their best but, alas, now leave Ambrit without a much-desired victory.
Mr Max opened the scoring when he received the ball from Mr Guarnieri and shot on the turn. G8 tried everything to get back into the game but neither Ale's tricky dribbling, Alex's precision passing nor Daniel's tireless running could break down the stubborn teachers' defence. Well Done Teachers!!

13.6.19

Teachers 5-4 Grade 7

The crowd witnessed a scintillating game today in a searing Ambrit Stadium as the teachers scraped home with another victory.
Mr Chad threw the cat among the pigeons when he mishit a clearance and set up Paul for the opening goal. As the teachers searched for the equaliser, Mr Paolo put in Mr Max twice and his third pass found Mr Matteo who headed past an advancing Joel to make it 1-1.
Mr Max made it 2-1; Mr Dan made it 3-1: would G7 collapse?
No!
Giacomo and Ottaviano combined to put Guillermo in and the Intramural top-scorer made no mistake. An exciting game continued to enthral when referee Corcoran awarded a penalty to G7 after Mr Martin handled in the area; Cristian levelled the scores.
Now this was anyone's game, but Mr Paolo kept the teachers' noses in front when his long shot caught out Joel: 4-3 with just minutes to play! Next to take centre-stage was Giacomo. A defensive error saw him one-on-one versus Virginia but Giacomo was cool and made it 4-4 with 30 seconds left to play.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man... cometh the best goal seen in Ambrit Stadium for quite some time. Knowing that time was running out, Mr Max found himself in the penalty area with his back to goal when the ball came to him.
He might have panicked, he might have shirked responsibility, but no: he produced a quality scissors kick to make it 5-4... to win the game... and to break the hearts of a gallant G7!

12.6.19

Teachers 3-0 Grade 6

A good opening for the teachers in the Summer Challenge series as they swept aside the brave but futile challenge of the sixth graders.
Particularly impressive today was Ale CS in goal, who made some tremendous saves: his reaction to push Mr Paolo's fierce shot onto the bar stands out!
The teachers opening goal was a gem: Mr Paolo found Max in the area and his turn and back heel left the goalkeeper bewildered and the ball in the net.
Mr Paolo added a second and Mr Piccolo a third. Despite having Edoardo - the Intramural's Best Player - directing their play in midfield, G6 created few chances, the best of them falling to Dylan but his shot was high.
Mr Martin's blatant handball in midfield saw him sent off for a second yellow card and he will be suspended from all game for two months, beginning on 20th June.

10.6.19

3rd place final: Milan 3-8 Roma

A stroll in the park for Roma today against a Milan side who, without would-be top-scorer Tommy, were outclassed. Goals for Guillermo (3), Saverio (3), Filippo, Lorenzo, Augusto (2) and Daniel.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Guillermo 5, Daniel 3, Sam 3, Augusto 3, Saverio 3, Pietro 2, Lorenzo 2, Ludo 1

7.6.19

GIRLS' FINAL: Liverpool 4-3 Chelsea

Grazie ragazze! È stata un'annata fantastica!!!

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Isabella 4, Annie 3, Carol 3, Selina 3, Giorgia 2, Michelle 2, Yutong 1, Emma 1.

5.6.19

BOYS' FINAL: Lazio 2-2 Inter (5-4 after penalties)

A packed crowd in Ambrit Stadium was treated to a thriller of a final today, with Riccardo's Lazio coming out on top after a penalty shoot-out.
The best early chance fell to Inter, when a good cross-field ball sent Dylan in but Ale CS blocked his shot. Lazio then went down the other end and Captain Riccardo scored the opening goal to put his team in front and himself to the top of the goalscoring charts.
But this was an even game and it wasn't long before Inter equalised. Cristian picked up the ball in midfield and scored with a well-placed left-foot strike into the top corner.
Inter continued to attack and a good move found Dylan on the right; his pass picked out Giorgio and Giorgio slotted the ball home neatly: 2-1.
But Inter were still celebrating when Lazio equalised. Jacopo caught Massimo napping and his long shot was perfectly placed. Giorgio then had a chance to make it 3-2 but his time his shot was slightly wide and, not long afterwards, the whistle went to send the teams to the penalty spot.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Jacopo 4, Cristian 4, Dylan 3, Ale CS 3, Edo 2, Ricky 2, Giorgio 1, Mikel 1, Paul 1

29.5.19

Milan 1-4 Lazio

Missing Joel and Alex P today, Milan struggled to contain a rampant Lazio. A lot of early pressure was finally rewarded when Mikel turned well in midfield and found Ricky who played a perfect pass to Miguel: 1-0. Giacomo almost made it 2-0 but Ludo made a good save and then Mikel's follow-up shot struck the bar. But Milan were pinned back again soon after and Miguel tapped in a second goal.
He almost finished his hat-trick but ludo made another good save and then, finally, Milan managed a goal when a good Daniel/Tommy/Daniel combination was well-finished by Daniel.
But Lazio were not to be denied: as others tired, Jacopo seemed to get fresher and fresher. He scored the third and set up Ricky for the fourth to fire Lazio into the final against Inter!
Best Player Points: Jacopo 7, Edoardo 6, Daniel 1, Ludovico 1, Mikel 1, Tommaso 1, Alessandro 1, Miguel 1, Augusto 1, Giacomo 1, Ricky 1

24.5.19

u13 ANSPI: C H A M P I O N S A G A I N !!!!!

A slow start for the Ambrit team in the first period against Casaletto. Nikos scored the 1-0 on a rebound ball from a shot taken by Mateo. In the second period, Ambrit pressured their opponents and managed to score 5 goals. ( Nikos, Taki with a header from paul’s corner kick, Pietro clean shot from midfield, Ludovico moved up to striker and got one in the goal, Taki scored off an assist from Ludovico) ending the second period 5-0.
The last period Casaletto managed to score two goals but Ambrit responded with 2 more goals of their own (Zach with a great assist from Mateo  and William following shot from Zach). Ending the game 7-2 and making sure of another ANSPI title!

Inter 1-1 Roma (5-4 after penalties)

Right from the start, this finely-balanced contest looked like it might go to penalties; in fact, the game's best three players finished on the losing side!
Roma, the favourites, started well and Michele and Guillermo had several shots early on. In fact, it was Michele who won possession in midfield and played Guillermo in for the first goal, finished clinically by the Spanish ace.
Inter equalised shortly afterwards, another cunningly executed corner kick by Cristian which Saverio was unable to block.
Later on, both sides had chances, the best of them falling to Dylan when a Saverio save fell to him on the edge of the penalty area but his shot was wide and the teams went to a penalty shoot-out.
Only one kick was missed and that was enough to decide the tie.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Guillermo 4, Pietro 3, Cristian 2, Michele 2, Massimo 2, Filippo 3, Alex 1, Dylan 1, Paul 1, Elias F 1, Lorenzo 1

17.5.19

Lazio 3-0 Fiorentina

Fiorentina bows out of the competition, overcome today by an in-form Lazio who now progress to he semi-finals.
Stiff defence kept Lazio at bay for 12 minutes but Ricky's clever poke opened the scoring and closed the door on the girls who attacked only rarely. Jacopo added two more goals.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edoardo 4, Ricky 2, Jacopo 2, Gaia 2, Annie 2, Virginia 2, Giacomo 2, Oscar, Sofia, Michelle, Emma C

16.5.19

Chelsea 2-1 Man. City

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Gaia 4, Annie 4, Lucy 3, Chanel 2, Michelle 3 Carolina 1, Sofia DM 1, Virginia 1.

10.5.19

Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool

With two players missing today, Liverpool struggled to contain a Chelsea side containing a lot of players with something to prove. Strong play from Virginia in defence, from Annie in midfield and from Michelle up front brought two goals - both struck by Michelle, the first a cracker.
Liverpool competed but couldn't make up for the two-player deficit.
BEST PLAYER POINTS:  Michelle 4, Giorgia 4, Annie 3, Virginia 2, Emma 2, Eleonora 2, Lucy 1, Carolina 1, Millie 1, Yutong 1

Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool

This mid-table clash, not surprisingly, finished in a draw. The main battle was in midfield, where Selina and Giorgia fought Ameli and Noor for possession but chances up front were few and far between. Neither side is out; neither side can be sure of a place in the final. Still all to play for!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Eleonora 3, Selina 3, Giorgia 3, Maisie 3, Sofia S2, Sarah 1, Carol 1, Ameli 1, Allegra 1, Noor 1, Gala 1, Emma C 1

8.5.19

Roma 6-0 Milan

Roma fielded two of Ambrit's successful Med Cup team against a depleted Milan and ran out easy 6-0 winners. Michele opened the scoring when Joel misjudged a long shot (a rare mistake from Joel who played really well today). Filippo followed up a shot from Michele that was saved to make it 2-0 and Lorenzo hammered home a fantastic third. Filippo's fourth was even better; a good tackle, some good dribbling and a cool finish.. Guillermo added two more very well-taken goals.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Guillermo 4, Pietro 4, Joel 4, Lorenzo 4, Filippo 3, Michele 2, Augusto 1, Sam 1, Alex PU 1

8.4.19

u11 ANSPI: San Leonardo 2-6 Ambrit

Ambrit played some of their best football of the season in the first period of this game - snappy passing, good pressing, quick shooting. Dylan put us 1-0 up; Adam scored the second, Vittorio the third; and the bar was struck twice.
The second and third periods were quieter but Pedro scored a hat-trick and Carlo had a few excellent attempts.
AMBRIT: Bertie, Alberto, Carlo, Leo, Pedro, Vittorio, Dylan, Cameron, Adam

3.4.19

u14 RISA league for Boys - last round!

Game 1: Ambrit 4-0
After many missed shots Ambrit first goal was scored by Dylan. Ambrit continued to take shots, with some spectacular bicycle kicks from Dylan and a kick from midfield from Pietro that didn't quite make it to the goal. The second goal was scored by Alex P, who dribbled all the way from the Ambrit goal to the opponents goal. The third goal was scored by Alex P in the pretty much the same way, making the score 3-0. The last and 4th goal was scored by Augusto, who received the ball from Alex P and scored from the far right corner.

Game 2: Ambrit 1-3 St George's Blue
The second match was a friendly which started out with a goal from Dylan who got an assist from Augusto. The rest of the match didn't go as planned, St.Georges' caught up with Ambrit and scored their 1st goal. Soon after that goal, two more followed. The Ambrit boys tried taking more shots but couldn't score and in the end the game finished with a St.Georges 3-1 victory.

Game 3: Ambrit 2-5 St George's Red
St.George's scored in the first minutes but a goal from Alex P from a corner equalised soon after. Since the two teams were tying, St.Georges took a risk and tried scoring from midfield and they went 2-1 ahead. Alex P was determined to score Ambrit's second goal but only managed to hit the post. Finally Ambrit did equalise with a goal from Adam, but after that goal in a matter of 5 minutes St.Georges scored 3 more goals. Now being close to the end of the game Ambrit  tried recuperating, but unfortunately the match ended with St.Georges winning 5-2

Game 4: Ambrit 2-4 New School
Ambrit started their last match tired but managed to keep the game going. Infact the match started with a goal from Dylan. Then, in an attempt to kick the ball away from goal, Pietro scored an own goal. The match now 1-1, both teams had to step up their game. Unfortunately New School managed to score 3 more goals after the little incident. The match now at its last minutes was going to end 4-1, but Ambrit was awarded a goal when in an attempt to change the ball, the New School goalie put one of the balls in his own goal. The match then ended with a victory of New School 4-2

1.4.19

u13 ANSPI: San Girolamo 1-2 Ambrit

The game started off badly with a goal from San Girolamo. The Ambrit boys took a few shots in the attempt to recuperate. In the end Pietro managed to score a goal, making it 1-1, and this was followed by a second goal from Giacomo. This goal ended the 1st period.
he second and third period were used to protect the goal, the Ambrit boys focused on maintaining the score the way it was without risking it. The plan worked out and in the end Ambrit won 2-1.

29.3.19

Lazio 7-1 Napoli

An unstoppable Ricky led his team to an easy victory today, bagging five goals himself in a 7-1 win.
Jacopo scored the other two, taking advantage of the space in a Napoli team missing two players. Giacomo contributed to opening up the space too, with a lot of good passes and runs off the ball.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edoardo 6, Riccardo 5, Jacopo 4, Giacomo 3, Andrea 2, Miguel 1

27.3.19

u11 ANSPI: Ambrit 3-1 Santos

It was one of those games: Ambrit were terrible early on, fell behind but then showed great character to come back and win the game against th team just ahead of them - for the moment (!) - in the table.
In the first period, Ambrit's passing was awful and, having given the ball away constantly, it was no surprise when Santos went 1-0 up. Indeed, it would have been 2-0 before the break had Adam not made a brilliant save.
The introduction of Alberto in the second period signalled a marked improvement and Tiago continued to batter the opposing defence on the right. Adam added his touch and intelligence to the mix and then he added another headed goal to put the sides level going into the third period.
Now it was Bertie's time to shine. He took over in attack and made a huge difference straight away, never giving the defenders a moment's rest and playing lots of good passes to companions. He capped it when Alberto played him through and he poked the ball past the goalkeeper: 2-1 to Ambrit!
Santos tried to get back into the game but Ambrit were now in charge. More pressure in midfield led to an Ambrit free kick and Alberto banged it home to seal the victory!
AMBRIT: Adam, Carlo, Leo, Pedro, Nicholas, Dylan, Vittorio, Alberto, Cameron, Bertie, Tiago

AMBRIT GIRLS CHAMPIONS!!!

St. George's A - Marymount 2-1

Ambrit - St. George's B 2-0 (Annie (R) Michelle)

Marymount - St. George's B 2-0

Ambrit - St. George's A 2-1 (Annie)
Miracolo!

St. George's A - St. George's B 4-3

Ambrit - Marymount 2-1 (Annie, Flavia)
