AICS League: Ambrit 22-2 Monteverde Rosso

The league leaders met the bottom team in the league today and the result, though not unexpected, was nonetheless surprising for the final total. Ambrit were superior in every facet of play and were scoring at will. Diego netted 10 today, Gabriel 1, Matteo 2, Edoardo 5 and Filippo, making his debut, was Man of the Match and scored 4 goals!

Boys’ Final: Man City 3-1 Liverpool

City put their recent Premier league troubles to one side today and cruised to a smooth victory over Liverpool in an entertaining final. The first half was notable for two ‘bombs’: the first from Antonio, cutting in from the left and unleashing a shot with his right foot that got past Rex; the second from Edoardo - on fire today - that crashed down off the crossbar and over the line. City weaved a net of fine passes all day and, in the second half, it was Edo who was again on hand to apply the finishing touch. Filippo was industrious on the left for Liverpool and he was rewarded with a goal but his team could do no more.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Antonio 5, Filippo 4, Edoardo 3, Matteo 2, Antoine 2, Ryan 2, Martti 1, Lorenzo I 1, Rex 1

GIRLS' FINAL: Empoli 2-4 Roma (after penalties)

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Una 3,  Erin 3, Vittoria N 2, Zoe 2, Megan 2, Aurora 2, Caterina 1, Greta 1, Anna 1, Angela 1, Ginevra 1

Aggiornamento:

la Roma conquista il titolo ai rigori, andando a segno con Megan, Vittoria e Una. Dalla parte dell'Empoli segna solo Caterina, mentre sono fatali gli errori di Gracie, Erin e Anna.

Third Place final: Ipswich 3-3 Spurs ( 6-7 after penalties)

Layers of interest in today’s match as Steve (9 goals) and Jacopo (10 goals) faced off for the Top Scorer trophy as well as for the third place medals. First blood to Jacopo, a solo run down the left opening up to a scoring opportunity which he gladly accepted. Jacopo and then Steve both saw shots going wide before Freddie equalised for Spurs. Tor then made a fine double save, first from Lorenzo F and then from Christian. Early in the second half, Max found himself one-on-one with Ashton, rounded him and shot home to make it 2-1. Jacopo sent Max for another chance immediately afterwards but this time Ashton made a good save. Then it was Max’s turn to supply an assist to Jacopo and the captain netted his twelfth goal of the tournament. Now Ipswich looked home and dry… but Lorenzo F slipped a pass through to Steve and he charged into the box and scored to make it 3-2. Only minutes left: Steve shot again and missed but Lorenzo F was on hand to equalise and force the game into a penalty shoot out.

After six penalties each, the teams were tied. Ipswich messed penalty n. 7... and ANTEO scored the winner!!!

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Max 5, Jacopo 3, Raul 2, Steve 2, Lorenzo F 2, Freddie 2, Christian 1, Ashton 1, Lucas 1, Tor 1, Junio 1

AICS League: Ambrit 4-2 Monteverde Blu

The first minutes of today’s match saw two evenly-matched sides tentatively probing for openings and studying each other carefully. Ambrit had a clear physical advantage but Monteverde were keen to play the ball on the ground and their No. 10 looked dangerous from the start. Leone and Diego got a couple of early shots in but nothing to trouble the goalkeeper. Ambrit were suffering a little in defence: the absence of Giovanni left a lot of space in front of Matteo and Monteverde used it to get off some shots of their own, but Mostafa handled everything competently. The opening goal came from a nice Ambrit move: Noel hooked a ball on to Diego, who turned inside and found Leone to shoot home from the edge of the area. A similar move immediately afterwards saw the ball move from Edo to Diego to Leone but the goalkeeper saved the shot this time. Monteverde then equalised somewhat fortuitously and Ambrit’s game fell apart for a while. Coach Nardi called a time out to steady the ship and, immediately from the restart, Leone fired home another goal and then hit the post a minute later!

In the second half, Tor steadied the nerves again with a goal off a Junio assist… though the goalkeeper should really have saved. No matter, Ambrit were now 3-1 ahead and playing better football. Edo made it 4-1 when he flicked the ball over the head of the defender before rounding him and shooting home. The Monteverde No. 10 pulled one back near the end, a high shot coming out of the sun that was difficult for Mostafa to stop. A good all-round performance, with Gabriel and Leone standing out.

SEMI-FINAL: Liverpool 3-2 Spurs

A full-strength Liverpool proved too strong for Spurs today as Anfield celebrated another semi-final win. Spurs had begun quickly, Steve scoring straight from the kick-off with a distracted Rex stranded at the other post. Lorenzo I was just wide with his first shot but Liverpool equalised when Antoine laid off a perfect pass to Lorenzo G who finished clinically. Anan was close with a header from a corner and then Lorenzo G turned assist-man, finding Filippo on the right and the g6 ace planted a lovely shot into the corner: 2-1. In the second half, José was booked for a blatant handball on the edge of the penalty area but Lorenzo I was wide with the free-kick. Christian had a good chance at  the other end but Rex made a great save and then Antoine put  the Reds 3-1 ahead when he won the ball in midfield and caught the goalkeeper totally out of position. A goalmouth scramble gave Steve the chance to pull the scoreline back to 3-2 but it is Liverpool who go on to face Man City in next week’s final.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Lorenzo I 5, Filippo 5, Lorenzo G 2 , Antoine 2, Christian 2, Steve 2, Rex 2, Anan 1

SEMI-FINAL: Ipswich 3-4 Man City

City and Ipswich met again today at Ambrit Studium and dished up a seven-goal thriller that sees City advancing to next week’s final! Man-of-the-match Antonio opened the scoring after 5’ when he latched onto a rebound on the edge of the penalty area and his shot was deflected past an unlucky Tor. Jacopo then went down the other end and equalised with another deflected shot, this time from a free kick, this time tricking Martti. City recaptured the lead with the day’s best goal. Maverick stole a ball in midfield, got to the bye-line and pulled back a perfect pass for Antonio who was arriving at the edge of the penalty area: Antonio scored again. But Jacopo evened up the scores again to send the teams in 2-2 at half time. Max came on at half time and made an immediate impact, scoring early to put Ipswich ahead for the first time. Both Jacopo and Antonio came close again with shots off the outside of the boot but Antonio completed his hat-trick when he nipped in to steal a ball and shoot first-time past Tor: 3-3. Martti made a fantastic double save, keeping out first Junio and then Gianluigi, setting up the grand finale: Antonio’s fourth goal from a free kick!

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Antonio 8, Gianluigi 3, Jacopo 3, Maverick 3, Max 3, Martti 1

Ipswich 1-2 Man City

Manchester City managed to turn the form book on its head today and captured three points that sees them leap frog into the semi-finals, condemning Chelsea to an ignominious elimination. Antonio was very busy all through the match but he had no luck with two early free kicks. Despite this early pressure, it was Ipswich who took the lead through Max but Antonio then equalised with a delicate left-footed lob from the touchline. Madison scored the crucial third goal. Ipswich tried hard to get back into the game and Gianluigi’s shot that crashed down off the bar was their closest effort.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Antonio 5, Lupo 3, Gianluigi 3, Jacopo 2, Maverick 2, Lucas 1, Junio 1, Max 1, Gabriele 1, Martti 1, Tor 1

AICS League: Academy Roma Real Casaletto 0-6 Ambrit

Another impressive performance today from the Ambrit u13s who maintain their 100% record with a win away to the (former!) league leaders… a position that Ambrit now assume with some authority! The two teams were well-matched for technical ability but Ambrit showed more determination and tactical nous; Ambrit were 3-0 up at half-time. In the second half, the home side dominated possession and put the Ambrit defence under some pressure but Mostafa controlled his defenders and kept a clean sheet. Ambrit scored three more goals in the second half. Noteworthy performances today from Gabriel and from new signing Leone who, despite playing against older opponents, managed to let his ability shine through. Goals today from Giovanni (2), Lorenzo L (2), Matteo and Lorenzo F.
