Valencia 2 - 0 Real Madrid

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Matilde 5, Lucrezia 4, Mia 3, Gaia 2, Ginevra 2, Leila 1, Lea 1, Celeste 1,  Jean 1.

Liverpool 4-1 Arsenal

Arsenal had two chances to clear the ball but failed and Edo R punished them to put the Reds ahead at half time.
From a corner, Edo R pulled the ball back to Francesco C and he caught it sweetly on the volley to give the goalkeeper no chance. Another assist from Edo R set up Guerrino for the third goal and, despite Nathan's replay, Liverpool ran out easy winners with Michael contributing a fourth.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edo R 6, Francesco C 5, Nathan 3, Michael 3, Guerrino 1, Giovanni 1, Bernardo 1, Lapo 1
Yellow Cards: Edo R, Guerrino

7.10.15

Chelsea 3-1 Man Utd

The first half ended scoreless and Manfredi's header - well saved by Andrew - was the best chance.
In the second half, prompted by a patient Francesco R in midfield, Chelsea'a attacking trident helped themselves to a goal each: first Sam, then Manfredi with a stunning lob from the left touchline and then Niccolò. The sequence was interrupted by a well-struck goal from Ramnath but the Red Devils wasted too many other chances.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Taro 5, Francesco R 3, Manfredi 3, Niccolò 2, Ramnath 2, Gabriele, Jerry, Andrew,  Sam, Thomas, Peter

3.10.15

Manchester City 1 - 1 Liverpool

These two teams sent the crowd away happy, having witnessed a mighty battle between two teams who can definitely hope to win this year's title.
The first half finished scoreless but was an exciting contest. Edo R came closeest to a goal but Ascanio pulled off an excellent save to deny him.
In the second half though, Edo was not to be denied and his tenacity was awarded with a 4th minute goal. The game got better and better as City pressed forward looking for an equaliser and Tiberio was Liverpool's saviour. Having gone into goal at half-time, he pulled off a string of excellent saves from shots by Sasha and Edo P. Aden though he had equalised when his lob from the touchline went in over Tiberio but referee Corcoran had already blown for a foul throw.
The, with only seconds on the clock, City won another corner. The ball was hurled in, broke to Alessandro and he banged it in to salvage a point for City.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Tiberio 7, Ascanio 2, Giuseppe 2, Edo R 2, Francesco 1, Edo P 1, Aden 1, Alessandro 1, Sasha 1, Giovanni 1, Guerrino 1, Michael 1

30.9.15

Man Utd 2-1 Arsenal

Arsenal's poor start to the season continued and Arsene Wenger will surely berate his players for another under-par performance.
United went ahead after 5 minutes when Noah scored a neat goal with a left foot drive.
In the second half, Thomas and Lorenzo combined to make it 2-0, thanks also to an Arsenal foot.
The Gunners tried to come back and could not be faulted for effort and Nathan finally scored with a thunderbolt from 20 meters out. But Man Utd were more concrete going forward and Noah forced a great save from Zeno, though Andrew also made a string of great saves to keep the lead for United.
BEST PLAYER POINTS:
Gabriele 4, Andrew 4, Thomas 3, Lorenzo 3, Noah 2, Ramnath 1, Alfonso 1, Matteo 1, Zeno 1, Nathan 1.
YELLOW CARDS: Alfonso

25.9.15

Chelsea 2-1 Man City

Mourninho's men got off to a wonderful start in this year's league with a victory after a highly entertaining game.
Early on, Sam combined well with Niccolo but Sasha made a great save. The next chance fell to City but Peter too was in form and made a great save from Alessandro's well-taken free kick. Francesco R then beat the goalkeeper but hit the crossbar and Manfredi came close with a glancing header. The deadlock was finally broken when Ascanio turned well and struck a firce shaot along the ground into the bottom corner to put City in front at half time.
After just 1 minute of the second half, Sam and Niccolo combined well again and Niccolò struck a lovely shot past Sasha: 1-1 and all to play for! Sam followed up with another good shot 2 minutes later and struck the post and then, off a long clearance, Sam beat Sasha to the ball and slipped in the winner!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Niccolo 5, Ascanio 4, Francesco R 3, Sam 3, Alessandro 2, Laith 1, Peter 1, Manfredi 1, Taro 1
YELLOW CARDS: Manfredi

24.9.15

Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid

Real won the first 'Classico' of the year after an energetic and enjoyable game.
The teams were locked at 0-0 at half time but, in the second half, the scoring began when Margarida put her team ahead with a well-placed shot from the left.
Barcelona reacted immediately and Giulia equalised not long after with a lob over Lucrezia in goal. The action swung first one way, then the other, and the large attendance in Ambrit Stadium was enthralled. With only minutes to go, Mia struck from midfield and her goal gave teh points to Real.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Bea 3, Mia 3, Giulia 3, Allison 2, Lucie 1, Eilidh 1, Fatou 1, Chiara 1, Juna 1, Margarida 1, Leila 1, Grace 1, Helena 1, Eve 1

FINAL: 8T 3-3 7M

An exhilarating final swung first one way, then the other and finished in a draw: penalties tomorrow at morning break!
Gabriele opened the scoring in the first half with a well-taken goal and Sasha equalised. Gabriele scored again as 7M re-took the lead but this time it was Francesco R who equalised before the break.
In the second half, Francesco struck first and 7M hung onto their lead for most of the second half. But then, with only minutes left, Francesco R made an excellent run from the back and passed to Sasha on the left wing. Sasha looked up, picked his spot and hit it with stunning accuracy! 3-3. 7M had a couple of chances to wrap up the game towards the end but they spurned them and face another penalty shoot-out tomorrow.

BREAKING NEWS ------8T are this year's C H A M P I O N S having won the penalty shoot out!!!!!

21.9.15

7M 0-0 6D

7M reached the final after a 0-0 draw followed a penalty shoot-out against an unlucky 6D.

17.9.15

6A 1-2 8T

An early goal by Noah and a late goal by Sasha sandwiched a spectacular equaliser struck by Manfredi from halfway and spared the blushes for g8's last surviving representatives.
A brave but ultimately futile effort by the sixth graders: well done to all but particularly to Giulia in defence who was really on form today.

16.9.15

8V 1-4 7M

Gabriele and Edo P ran riot in the first half and their older opponents were powerless to stop them. Gabriele scored the first goal, finishing off a slick passing move when Edo played him in. The roles were reversed for the second goal when Edo acored from a Gabriele pass. Francesco C meanwhile controlled the midfield and Pietu patrolled the defence. 8V had a brief glimmer of hope when Nicholas pulled one back but the hope was quickly snuffed out with a goal from FRANCESCO.
7M continued to dominate through the second half and Edo completed his hat-trick.

11.9.15

8C 1-2 6D

Ambrit underestimated 6D - and the threat posed by Nathan in particular - and paid the price. A scoreless first half was full of warnings for 8C but they were lulled into a false sense of security when Michael's shot struck the crossbar.
Early in the second half though, Nathan shook them up with a cooly-taken first goal. Matilde was a rock in defence and 8C's poorly-coordinated attacks often foundered there. Nathan struck again 5 minutes later and, though they battled to the end, Guerrino's last-gasp strike was meagre consolation.

10.9.15

8T 3-0 7P

8T strolled to a relatively comfortable win over 7P. A classy early, second-half goal from Sasha set them up and Noah added two more. With Ramnath in goal, Jaan supporting the attack, Francesco in a holding role and a host of good defenders (Martina, Celeste, Valentina, Nikos), 8T look like strong challengers for the coveted crown of Homeroom Champions.

9.9.15

6A 4-2 6M

6M got off to a fantastic start and looked set to emulate last year's winners when Lapo used all his skill and expertise to score two goals.
Late in the first half, Alessandro pulled one back but 6M led 2-1 at half time.
Alessandro turned provider in the second half when he curled in a lovely left-footed cross and Manfredi rose at the far post to head in an equaliser.
6A pressed forward and 6M were on the ropes. When they cleared another ball out of defence, Mia intercepted it and launched a beautiful volley over Giuseppe's head and into the far corner: 3-2.
A fourth goal from Manfredi sealed the victory.

St George's Tournament: Ambrit Crash out on penalties

Ambrit sent two MS boys' teams to the St George's tournament on Saturday. The Grade 8 team played well but failed to win their final group match while the less considered Grade 6/7 team, playing in the other group, qualified for the semi-finals and lost out on penalties. For G8, Giacomo and Jacopo played extremely well all day but the G6/7 team really played above themselves after a slow start. Lucrezia was outstanding in goal and Sasha also had an fantastic day; his passing, tackling and shooting were all top notch! Aden did a good job too, filling in for some absentees and he made his ANSPI experience count.

23.3.15

USA 4-1 Argentina

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Elizabeth 5, Greta 4, Sofia 4, Fatou 2, Leila EZ 1, Raffaella 1.

Spain 3-1 Germany

The Spring Intramural finished with a bang, with the last two World Champions providing an exciting  climax.
The first half finished goalless thanks to some excellent goalkeeping at both ends (Lucrezia and Octavio) and Germany should probably have been ahead at the interval. The first real chance fell to Edoardo R but Lucrezia made a fantastic save down low to her left. Not long afterwards, Lucrezia also denied  Ludo from close range and then Spain broke Ricky twice for Spain. The firs time, he shot just wide and the second time Octavio made a great save. Octavio intervened again soon afterwards when he stopped a piledriver from Sam and, back at the other end, Andrew was lucky to get away with a careless back-header and Luca came close with a diving header.
Ricky opened the scoring in the second half when he got away from Luca and shot low past Octavio. Francesco almost equalised but his shot came back off the bar and Edo Recchi missed a good chance too. Germany paid for their mistakes when Noah G found space on the right and shot past Octavio. Sasha hit the post and Luca made it 2-1 with three minutes to go. Germany rushed forward but couldn't score. Spain did, through Sasha.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Lucrezia 7, Sasha 4, Noah G 5, Octavio 1, Francesco R 1,  Luca 1, Riccardo G 1, Andrew 1

18.3.15

Italy 1-0 Greece

After such a promising start to the Spring Intramural, Greece finished empty-handed today as they failed to produce the goods in the third place decider.
Chances were few and far between in the first half and fell mostly to the Italians, but the Greek goalkeeper had another superb day between the sticks: 0-0 half time.
In the second half the intensity of the game increased, but not the quality. The only goal of the game came after a wave of Italian attacks and was finished off by L'onorevole Luka, following up unmarked after Anastasia had saved a shot from Alex.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Taro 4, Anastasia 4, Giacomo 3, Ascanio 3, Tristano 2, Jacopo M 1, Luka 1, Filippo G 1, Alex V 1, Edo J 1,

11.3.15

USA 2 - 0 Argentina

Usa - o meglio Elizabeth - batte Argentina 2-0 e conquista primo posto in classifica e finale.
Doppietta e finale!

PLAYER OF THA MATCH POINTS: Elizabeth 8, Fatou 3,  Raffaella 2, Lucie 2, Sofia 2.

28.2.15

Brazil 2-0 USA

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Margarida 7, Carolina 5, Sophie 3, Raffaella 2, Sofia 2, Lea 1, Leila EZ 1.

27.2.15

Greece 0-1 Italy

Abandoned by Noah, Jacopo M, Guerrino, Taro and Artur, Captain Giacomo could only look on helplessly as his team lost to Italy and missed out on the Final.
Luka returned from his tennis exploits to inspire the Italians. His was the goal - scored in the first half - that separated the teams. Italy had other chances too in the first half but Greece were saved by a goalmouth scramble and by poor shooting from the Italian forwards.
Greece themselves had few opportunities, the best of them created and missed by EdoJ.
The teams will meet again in the Third Place Final.
BEST PLAYER POINTS:  Anastasia 5, Tristano 3, Luka 2, Edo J 2, Giacomo 2, Alex V 2, Mattis 1, Filippo G 1,  Alex K 1, Jacopo S 2,

25.2.15

Germany 4-1 France

France went ahead in this match but sank deeper into trouble when the Germans came back and steamrolled to an easy win.
The opening goal came when Pietu hoisted a hopeful ball into the air and, when it came down, the bounce tricked Octavio and finished in the back of the net. But the Germans didn't panic.
With Filippo playing a holding role at the back, they built their attacks through Edo R and Francesco R and Edo made it 1-1. He almost made it 2-1 seconds later but hit the post instead. Luca R then did score... yes, you guessed it - with his head AGAIN!
Riccardo F and Alfonso tried valiantly to bring the game back to the Germans. Riccardo made a mazy run that took him into the box but Filippo C stopped him with a perfectly-timed tackle.
Ricky then stole a ball off Filippo C in midfield but was then tackled himself before he could get a shot in. Gabriele then shot over from a good position and Francesco R made it 3-1 before half time with a long-range effort past Francesco C in goal.
Nicholas R scored the fourth with a simple tap in in the second half.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Filippo C 4, Alfonso 4, Riccardo F 3, Francesco R 3, Gabriele 2, Edo R 2, Pietu 1, Michael 1, Matteo 1

24.2.15

USA 0-0 Brazil

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Ran 2, Raffaella 1, Angelica 1, Sofia 1, Celeste 1, Beatriz 1, Sophie 1, Margarida 1.

20.2.15

USA 3 - 1 Argentina

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Raffaella 6, Sofia 5, Leila EZ 2, Lucie 2, Greta 2, Vale 1, Beatriz 1.

18.2.15

Spain 2-0 Greece

A disappointing match was won by a clearly superior Spanish team and the margin would have been greater had it not been for two excellent saves from Anastasia.
The only goal of the first half was scored by Ricky when he was first to follow up a shot that was well-saved by Anastasia.
The only goal of the second half was an individual effort from Noah G when he accelerated away from his marker and struck a reverse shot past a surprised Anastasia. Ricky should have scored a second when Sam played him through but Anastasia dived to her right to make a great stop and Jacopo S was on hand to block the follow up shot from Sasha. Sam also had a good chance to score when he struck a beautiful volley but Anastasia, once again, was equal to the challenge. Greece never really threatened. Jacopo M did his best but Noah I was missed up front.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Anastasia 4, Sasha 3, Jacopo M 3, Sam 2, Alex K 2, Jacopo S 2, Tommaso 1, Giovanni 1, Noah G 1, Riccardo G 1, Filippo T 1

13.2.15

Germany 5-2 Italy

Germany deserved their win today but were a little flattered by the final scoreline.
Andrew Coleman got on the scoresheet for the second game in a row when he was on hand to turn in a good cross from Alex V for the firs goal of the game: 1-0 to Italy. It might have been 2-0 but Filippo C got back to clear the ball off the line.
Germany equalised when Luca R rose to head home a Francesco R throw-in and the brothers repeated the dose two minute later to send their team into half-time with a 2-1 lead, though it might have been 2-2 had Andrew not missed a good chance from close range.
Italy started well again in the second half and Luka D's determination was rewarded when his excellent pass found Filippo G free on the left and Bomber Gigli scored with a well-placed shot. The Germans now redoubled their efforts and improved their passing and team play. Filippo C came forward a little more and Francesco B had to clear a ball off the line.
But the Germans were not to be denied and they took the lead with yet another headed goal, this time from Filippo C. Nicholas made it 4-2: Edo R made it 5-2.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Filippo C 6, Luca R 4, Tristano 3, Francesco R 2, Edo R 1, Luka D 1, Octavio 1, Alex V 1, Andrew C 1, Francesco B

12.2.15

Argentina 1 - 0 Brasile

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Lucie 4, Sophie 3, Celeste 2,  Valentina 2, Ginevra 2,  Anna 2, Ran 1, Margarida 1.

11.2.15

Spain 4-1 France

France plunged to another defeat today and will need collect some points in their next match to avoid elimination.
It was a French player however who lit up the match early on wen Alfonso's weaving run along the end line was halted by a foul and Alfonso himself scored from the resulting penalty.
It took Spain most of the first half to find a reply. Sam and Ricky were both foiled when Francesco C - in goal today - made a great double save. Sasha then made a great run down the right but his shot went wide. Finally though, Noah G played a neat one-two with Ricky and planted the ball past Francesco for a deserved equaliser. Noah G then got on the end of a corner to make it 2-1 just before half-time.
In the second half, Noah turned provider and set up Sasha for the third. and Ricky added a fourth from a free-kick.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Noah G 6, Riccardo G 3, Alfonso 3, Pietu 2, Gabriele 2, Francesco C 1, Lucrezia 1, Tommaso 1, Filippo T 1, Sasha 1

Ambrit Tournament

Ambrit entered two team this Saturday and both of them played very well. The 'A' team was unlucky to finish second on goal difference... by a single goal!
RESULTS
Ambrit ‘A’ 4-2 Ambrit ‘B’ (Sasha, Thomas; Jacopo, Luca Filippo C; Elizabeth)

NSR 4-2 AOSR

Ambrit ‘A’ 3-3 NSR (Jacopo, Jacopo, Filippo C; fantastic performances from Filippo & Lucrezia!)

Ambrit ‘B’ 0-5 AOSR

Ambrit ‘B’ 1-4 NSR (Gabriele)

Ambrit ‘A’ 3-1 AOSR (Jacopo, Jacopo, Elizabeth; fantastic performances from Giacomo & Sofia!)

Germany 1-4 Greece

Greece shocked the world of football today with a resounding win over Germany in a game highly influenced by an outstanding performance from the on-loan player: Elizabeth.
Greece took the lead when some poor defensive play let in Edo J for a headed goal over Octavio's outstretched arm.
Noah I then missed two fantastic chances and picked up a yellow card before Filippo C equalised on half-time.
Early in the second half, Greece went back into the lead through an own goal. Germany attacked but couldn't get past Anastasia. Greece made it 3-1 on the break, Noah I this time making no mistake.
But the best of the goals came at the end: Elizabeth collected the ball on the left just inside the German half; she looked up, saw Octavio slightly out of position and hit a beautiful shot past him and into the opposite top corner. What a beauty!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Edo J 6, Anastasia 4, Taro 3, Alex K 3, Giacomo 2, Jacopo S 2, Noah I 1

4.2.15

France 3-3 Italy

This much-anticipated didn't disappoint another sell-out crowd at Ambrit Stadium today as the Spring Intramural saw its first draw.
Andrew Coleman got a good touch on an early pass and it was enough to give Italy the lead. Riccardo led his team's fightback and he scored the equaliser himself, Alfonso put France 2-1 up and Stuart made it 3-1.
Italy, after a disappointing defeat in their first game, were determined not to lose again and they deservedly fought back to 3-2 through Filippo G. Then, with only a couple of minutes on the clock, Alex V scored the equaliser with a well-struck and well-placed shot from the right.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Alfonso 5, Alex V 4, Ascanio 3, Tristano 3, Michael 2, Luka 1, Andrew C 2, Francesco B 1

31.1.15

Spain 5-0 Italy

Two goals from Noah G and three from Ricky were enough to sink Italy at Ambrit Stadium today.
Early in the first half, Sam threaded a beautiful pass through the Italian defence for Noah G to run on to and he slotted the ball neatly home. Eli seemed to have equalised three minutes later but his goal was disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper which was spotted by the referee's assistant.
In the second half, Spain played some fantastic football and ran riot. Riccardo played Noah G in for his second goal. Sam and Giovanni came close and then, from a corner, Noah G played a ball to Sasha who knocked it in to Ricky for the third goal. The fourt goal was a gem; a lovely passing move involving Giovanni, Sam and Ricky ended with Ricky's second goal and he added another at the end.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Noah G 6, Riccardo 5, Francesco B 5, Sasha 3, Sam 1, Tommaso R 1

28.1.15

France 0-2 Greece

With two extraordinary saves - one in each half - Anastasia helped to ensure that Greece got off to a winning start against a poorly-organised French team.
After a scoreless first half in which Anastasia made a series of important interventions, Edo popped up on the end of a throw-in to scramble the ball over the line early in the second half to give the Greeks the lead.
Riccardo did his best to lead by example, winning good ball in midfield and bringing his team mates into the play. Stuart was well-watched by the Greek defence and couldn't find the space he needed to get his deadly shots in and, when he did, they were blocked by Giacomo, Taro, Jacopo and Anastasia. Gabriele was always available wide on the left for France and also got some shots in, but to no avail.
The Greeks, as well as defending stoutly, were also looking for the second goal that would kill off the game. Noah almost grabbed it when he poked a clever shot that came back off the post, but Guerrino did grab the second when his last-miute shot was deflected past Alfonso in goal. But the highlight of the game was undoubtedly Anastasia'a second half save: as Stuart turned onto his left foot on the edge of the area and shot through a crowd of players, Anastasia, unsighted and seeing the ball late, dived to her right with lightening reflexes and stopped a certain goal.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Anastasia 8, Jacopo M 3, Gabriele 3, Taro 2, Riccardo F 1, Giacomo 1, Noah I 1, Stuart 1, Edo J 1

Spain 2-4 Germany

The first game of the Boys' Spring Tournament saw Filipo C justify his price tag with three goals to take three points for his team.
It all started well for Spain though when Riccardo G pounced twice on defensive errors to score two goals. Germany, though rocked by this early double whammy, pulled themselves back into the game with some determined football and Filippo C had them level at 2-2 at the interval.
In the second half, Spain were forced back into defence and Luca fired home to put his team in front for the first time. Octavio made a couple of good saves and Filippo C sealed the victory with his third.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Filippo C 5, Noah G 3, Riccardo G 3, Francesco R 2, Octavio 2, Ramnath 1, Lucrezia 1, Filippo T 1, Sam 1, Luca R 1, Tommaso 1

Argentina 1 - 0 Brazil

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Valentina 5, Anna 5,  Sophie 3, Gaia 2, Carolina 2, Greta 1, Margarida 1, Lucie 1, Ginevra 1.

Ambrit 2-6 German School Rome

An Ambrit team decimated by the current bout of flu', which kept some key players on the bench, put up a good perforamnce and might easily have won or drawn this game but for some glaring defensive errors.
Trailing by 1-0 at half-time, there was still all to play for but Ambrit lost their concentration in those crucial minutes after the break and were soon 0-3 behind.
Captain Luca then took matters in hand and, after a sound defensive display in the first half, he moved forward more often and was on hand to poke home a goal from three mters out to make it 1-3.
Ambrit now pured forward and left spaces at the back which were ruthlessly exploited by their opponents. Luca's second goal - a beautifully struck shot into the top corner - was Ambrit's only consolation at the end.
TEAM: Octavio; Alex, Luca, Pietu (Tommaso); Noah, Francesco R, Michael (Eli); Filippo G (Giovanni)
