Barcelona 5-1 Real Madrid

Without their captain, Real Madrid never looked like competing in El Classico and finished on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline.
Filippo, Joshua and Emilio inflicted the damage in the first half; Luca Cerri made it 4-0 after Luka had missed a penalty. Mattia converted a second penalty later on but Joshua rounded off the score near the end.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Luca R 6, Filippo C 2, Emilio 2, Cesare 2, Cristian 2, Alex V 1, Danyal 1, Mattia J 1, Joshua 1, James 1, Mattis 1, Yizhang 1.

Ambrit Girls 6 - 1 St. George's Girls

BOYS SOCCER: Ambrit 6-3 St George's

The result was never in doubt in the return leg of the Ambrit vs St George's Autumn Challenge, though the home team did give away some bad goals in the second half.
Antoine settled Ambrit's nerves with an early goal, following up a good shot from Simone. The captain himself produced another one of his piledrivers from the left to double the lead and Antoine made it 3-0 at half time.
St George's pulled a goal back early in the second half but Mattia got on the end of a long throw and restored the earlier margin. Antoine completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes to go and Simone put Ambrit 6-1 ahead. However, mistakes by Nawin and Antoine led directly to two goals for the visitors: let's hope some lessons have been learned.
On a positive note, Yi made his debut for Ambrit and the team showed a great determination and fighting spirit. We go to St George's on Saturday looking to come away with a Winners trophy!

PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Emilio (the picture will be posted whenever we'll have a decent image of Emilio...)

14.11.12

Bayern Munich 6-3 Real Madrid

After securing an early two-goal lead, Real Madrid collapsed to another defeat and watched helplessly as their charismatic but unpredictabl captain was sent off near the end of the game.
Luka shot the spanish into their early lead with two goals but, after David was booked, Andrea Ooi equalized with two headers. Luka could have scored a third near the break when David sent him in with a beautiful weighted pass, but Luka shot wide.
In the second half, Cristian made some good saves, including two from Hans, but it wasn't enough to keep out a hungry German team. Lorenzo put the Bavarians ahead when he managed to poke the ball through a crowd of players. Then, after David hit th bar with along shot Sam Cole made it 4-2 with the help of a deflection.
Alex gave his team some hope when he pulled the score back to 4-3 but goals from Luca dV and Sam Cole combined with David's expulsion sealed the game for the Germans.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Andrea O 4, Andrea S 4, Luca dV 3, Hans 3, Luka 2, Mattia J 1, Cristian 1, Sam 1, Cesare 1, Mattis 1

13.11.12

Brazil 2 - 1 Germany

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Orsola 6, Camilla 5, Annika 4, Ginevra 2, Greta 1, Livia 1, Maria 1.

12.11.12

Germany 2 - 2 Italy

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Priscilla 5, Annika 4, Emma 3, Giulia 3, Olivia 2, Ginevra 2, Greta 1, Maria Flavia 1.

8.11.12

Ambrit boys 5-2 St. George's boys

Against a weak home team, Ambrit's physical superiority allowed them to win their first competitive match of the year with a solid but uninspired performance.
Having said that, their first goal was the result of some fine teamwork. Mattia won the ball well on the right and he set Simone up for a shot which was well saved by the goalkeeper, but Antoine was on hand to tap in the rebound. Ambrit kept the English team under pressure and the second goal was a thunderous shot from Simone. The ball rifled past a bewildered goalkeeper.
Mattia continued to play well on the right and he almost scored but his shot came back off the post. St. George's then nabbed an unexpected goal but Simone restored the two goal lead, scoring directly from a corner. The captain led by example today and helped to squeeze that extra effort out of his players today.
For the rest of the first half, Danyal and Davide continued to defend well and Nawin patrolled the left flank with menace. Emilio did a lot of running and a lot of good, quiet work in the middle. Andrea was untroubled in goal.
Ambrit continued to dominate in the second half but the play was now more scrappy. Luca Cerri and Luca del Vecchio added two more goals; Danilo came on and made a couple of great saves; Cerri hit the bar too, but there was no real threat from the hosts.

Ambrit players of the match: Simone and Mattia

Ambrit girls 4-1 st.George's girls

Ambrit player of the match: Camilla.

AC Milan 1 - 1 Liverpool

After some neat opening play from Liverpool, it was Milan's more direct approach that worked more effectively as Simone put his side 1-0 ahead.
Liverpool kept passing the ball though and Jonathan equalised before half-time. Jacopo crowned a good first half display with an excellent jink inside his marker and a shot that rebounded off the bar.
Play in the second half was more confused and Nawin came closest to a goal but his shot was well saved by Danilo, while Jacopo came close again with a shot that flashed just wide of the goalkeeper's right hand post.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Jacopo 7, Danilo 6, Nawin 2, Jonathan 2, Simone 2, Tommaso V 1, Yi 1

Barcelona 3-0 Ajax

Barcelona continued their triumphant march through the qualifiers, sweeping aside a brave but ineffective challenge from the Dutch champions.
Emilio's early goal, scored with the help of a deflection, got his team off to a great start. The Dutch came back immeditaely and Antoine was unlucky to see his shot crash back off the post. Marco then sent Antoine in for another chance but this time James made a good save to deny him again.
Antoine hit the post again in the second half before Filippo popped up to score his 11th goal of the tournament.
But Ajax weren't finished yet. From the kick off Mattia drove down the left and nearly scored with a shot across the far post. Two minutes later, he hit the bar but Barcelona finished off with a near miss from Filippo nad a goal from Joshua.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Mattia M 6, Antoine 3, Joshua 3, Alexandre 3, Marco 2, Luca R 2, Jiaqi 1, Emilio 1

26.10.12

Barcelona 8-2 Liverpool

The Catalonians wiped the floor with the Scousers today in an unexpectedly one-sided match. A very early shot caught Riccardo napping and Barcelona went ahead. Filippo followed up with a second and fourth and Luca Cerri scored the a penalty in between. Emilio made it 5-0 at half time.
No change in the second half: Liverpool's gig-name players failed to perform and Emilio controlled the midfield and dictated a steady rhythm of neat passing. Two more goals followed from Emilio before Jonathan clawed one back and the last two goials came from Filippo and Giovanni, after Jacopo had missed a penalty.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Emilio 10, Filippo C 3, James 2, Giovanni 1, Jacopo 1, Danyal 1, Riccardo 1, Tommaso R 1, Luca C 1

25.10.12

Argentina 4 - 1 Brazil

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Julia 8, Mallika 4, Valentina 2, Lavinia 2, Lucrezia 1, Dalia 1, Orsola 1, Lara 1.

22.10.12

17.10.12

Liverpool 1-0 Bayern Munich

Against a defensive Bayern Munich, Liverpool pit in a gutsy, energetic performance and were rewarded with three points.
A tight first half went by with few chances and no goals. The reds opened the second half well and Giovanni found Jonathan on the right with a good pass. With Jacopo taking away two defenders on the left with a good run, jonathan curled a shot into the near post corner for the only goal of the game.
Giovanni had a couple of chances to increase the lead and the Germans came back with a late bid for an equaliser, but to no avail.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Andrea Ooi 4, Andrea Sgambati 4, Giacomo 3, Zahir 3, Giovanni 1, Tim 1, Jacopo 1, Riccardo 1, Sam 1, William 1, Hans 1.

12.10.12

Barcelona 6-0 AC Milan

The Euorpean Champions outpassed and outplayed their Italian opponents to record another big win in this year's championship.
Taking up from where he left off last time, Filippo C opened the scoring with a header after Joshua's corner was headed back by Luca C and then added a second before half time.
Milan remained pinned back in defence in the second half. Tommaso made a couple of good saves from Joshua and Alex but Joshua then scored a beautiful third when he hoisted a shot from the left into the opposite top corner. Captain Emilio followed him onto the scoreboard and then Luca C got his reward for an enterprising performance in midfield. Joshua completed the scoring with another fine finish, again into the top corner.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Danyal 4, Emilio 4, Joshua 3, Tommaso 3, Luca C 2, Filippo C 2, Alex V 2, Lucas 1

10.10.12

Liverpool 2-1 Real Madrid

Liverpool surprised everybody with a winning performance and launched themselves back into contention in the Autumn Intramurals.
Luka had an early chance but missed and the opening goal came from Jonathan. He kept his eye on a high ball (naturally!) from Giovanni and met it with a perfectly coordinated volley. Giovanni himself then hit the bar but the teams changed ends at 1-0.
Jonathan struck again in the first minute of the restart... a backward header from a throw in. It could have been 3-0 shortly afterwards but Cesare made an excellent clearance off the line. Meanwhile the Spaniards - and in particular their charismatic captain - were getting more and more nervous. But they were also continuing to play well and a pass from Mattia found Luka who finally put away one of many chances.
But it was too little too late and the three points went to Merseyside.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Mattia J 4, Giovanni 3, Jonathan 3, Cesare 2, Riccardo 2, Jacopo 1, Luka 1, Davide 1, Cristian 1, Yizhang 1, Nawin 1, Tim 1.

3.10.12

Ajax 4-1 Bayern Munich

After a brave performance in the first half, Bayern struggled after the restart and could only watch as the Flying Dutchmen chalked up a second successive win.
Antoine opened the scoring after six minutes when he met a corner from the right and then Luca del Vecchio equalised with a well-taken free kick three minutes later. Both teams had some half chances as the first half progressed but a touch of class from Antoine - a beautiful lob over the goalkeeper after a nice pass from Mattia M - allowed Ajax to reach half time with a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, the Germans tired and the Dutchmen got stronger, particularly Marco and Mattia M -  the latter crowning an excellent performance with two goals following two assists from Antoine.
Some notable defensive performances too today, especially from William B (Man of the Match) and Francisco.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH: William B 5, Marco 4, Francisco 3, Mattia M 3, Hans 2, Andrea O 2, Antoine 2

28.9.12

Real Madrid 2-2 AC Milan

One of Europe's greatest rivalries ended in a draw today when the Italians fought back from a two-goal deficit to tie with the last kick of the game.
Luka set up Mattia for the opening goal and Journo toe-poked it past a surprised Danilo. Poor kick-outs then gave Luka and Mattia a chance each to stretch the lead but they were unable to finish.
In the second half, the Spanish Champions continued to play the better football and Luka made it 2-0.
Slowly though, Milan worked their way back into it and, when referee Corcoran awarded a free-kick against Daviide for time-wasting, Simone blasted it home.
Spurred on by their goal, Milan now took over and peppered Cristian's goal with shots. Some were wide, some were saved but, in the end, one got through to tie the score at 2-2.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Simone 6, Cesare 4, Mattia J 3, Christian 3, Luka 2, Danilo 1, David 1, Ludovico 1

27.9.12

Argentina 2 - 0 Italy

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Julia 5, Lavinia 4,  Valeria 2, Sofia 2, Priscilla 2, Emma 2, Delfina 1, Giulia 1, Mallika 1, Zoe 1.

26.9.12

Ajax 5-0 Liverpool

The Merseysiders got off to a disastrous start this year in the Premier league and now in the Ambrit Intramural too. Giovanni worked a good chance early on after a neat move involving Jacopo and Jonathan and his shot was narrowly over. But that was the last time that Liverpool threatened in the first half. Ajax took over. Antoine opened the scoring with a glancing backward header, Mattia made it 2-0 with a long shot which Ale inexplicably allowed to go past him unchallenged. Francesco scored a third with the help of a lucky deflection.
No change in the second half. The Dutch players managed to string their passing together within the four-touch rule but their opponents could not. Marco scored the fourth from a narrow angle and Stuart crowned an excellent performance with a cooly-taken goal from the left.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Marco 7, Stuart 3, Mattia M 3, Jacopo 2, Antoine 2, Nawin 2, AleP 1, Tommaso R. 1

21.9.12

Barcelona 5 - 2 Bayern Munich

What a debut for Filippo! The sixth-grade sensation scored all five goals in his team's rout of a disappointing Bayern and rushed to the top of the scoring charts. Barcelona's passing was better throughout the game and, even if some of his goals owed something to fortune, Filippo's positioning and goal sense mark him out as a natural goalscorer.
The Germans never gave up hope though with Andrea and Sam scoring deserved consolation goals.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Luca R 4, Filippo C 4, Hans 4, Luca C 2, Emilio 1, Alex V 1, Danyal 1, Sam 1, Stefano 1, Joshua 1, Lorenzo 1

20.9.12

Brasil 3 - 0 Germany

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Lucrezia 5, Camilla 4, Greta 4, Livia 3, Orsola 1, Olivia 1, Mina 1, Ginevra 1, Annika 1.

13.9.12

8T 8-1 8C

Following their penalty shoot-out win in the morning, 8T mercilessly rifled in eight goals against a defenceless 8C. Luca Cerri opened the scoring with two well-taken goals and David scored a third before half time.
In the second half, Camilla hit the target FOUR times and the other goal came from Julia. Giovanni scored the only goal for 8C but it was a jewel!
BEST PLAYERS: Giovanni & Julia

12.9.12

8G 1-1 8T

A clearly superior 8T failed to press home their advantage after David gave them the lead in the first half. In the second half, Mr Corcoran awarded a series of controversial decisions to 8G which finished with James rattling in an own goal after a free kick on the edge of the area.
8C await the winners of a penalty shoot-out.

BEST PLAYERS: Camilla, Allegra.

First Matches

7DT 2-0 7F

Wins for 7DT and 6Ca opened the 2012-13 season and whetted everybody's appetite for the rest of this year's matches. 7DT played some very nice passing football and their key players looked fresh, despite their recent trip to Bellaria for the National finals. Their goals came from Marco and Joshua, two players who everybody will be hoping to find in their team next week.
BEST PLAYERS: Tommaso, Livia

6Ca 1-0 6D
6D did most of the attacking in this game but the more direct style employed by 6Ca turned out to be more effective. the only goal of the game came when Jacopo latched onto a long pass forward from Hans and beat the goalkeeper with a well-placed shot to the bottom corner.
BEST PLAYERS: Hans, Sofia

Autumn Intramural

Here we go again!
The Autumn Intramural Leagues are about to start with two big changes, both designed to improve the quality of play:
In the BOYS category, each player is limited to FOUR touches any time he receives the ball.
In the GIRLS category, matches will be FIVE-A-SIDE on the small pitch.

Good luck!

11.6.12

GIRLS FINAL: Portugal 4 - 0 Holland

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Orsola 7, Priscilla 4, Emma 4, Olivia 3, Ginevra 2, Julia 1.

Third Place Play-Off: Ireland 2-2 Italy (5-6 after penalties)

Italy captured third place after a penalty shoot-out. They had fallen behind to a Joshua goal but an own-goal and a goal by Max were enough to tie Luca Cerri's second goal for the Irish.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Jonathan 4, Simone 3, Leo 2, Andrea Ooi 2, Lucas 2, Joshua 1, Emilio 1, Jiaqi 1, Ale P 1, Max 1, Cesare 1, Francisco 1, Danilo 1

6.6.12

BOYS' FINAL: Germany 3-0 England

England was swept aside by the organisation and physical presence of a determined Germany in a disappointingly one-sided final.
Mattia was everywhere in the first half - covering, tackling, passing and shooting and he scored the opening goal after 5 minutes when Alex dF controlled a ball and found him with a well-timed pass. Captain Alex was everywhere too - marking Oliver and breaking forward when possible. And it was one of these rapid breaks that led to him cracking in the second goal with low shot past Lorenzo.
Germany's third goal was scored by Alex dF and England never really recovered.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Mattia 7, Alex H 6, David 3, Alex dF 1, Nawin 1, Oliver 1, Lorenzo 1

5.6.12

BOYS SEMI-FINAL: GERMANY 1-1 ITALY (5-4 after penalties)

Italy took the lead towards the end of an uneventful first half when Simone controlled a long pass from Max and beat Ale in goal from short range.
AlexdF equalised early in the second half amid protests of handball but Italy had a chance to win the game when referee Corcoran gave a penalty for a David push on Max.
Max missed the penalty, forcing a shoot-out.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Ale dB 5, Mattia 4, Simone 3, Lucas 2, Nawin 2, Alex H 2, Max 1, Luca dV 1, Ale P 1

31.5.12

PENALTY SHOOT OUT: England 6-5 Ireland

Ireland had numerous opportunities to win the shoot out but kept missing the vital kick. England into the final, Mr Corcoran desolato.

SEMI-FINAL: Ireland 3-3 England

After a slow start, the match kicked into life when Oliver scored with a tap-in from a corner. But Ireland responded immediately when Leo met Jon's corner with his head, giving Lorenzo no chance. Ludo then hit a post before scoring a lucky goal two minutes later to send England in with a slender lead at half-time.
Early in the second half it was Jonny's turn to hit a post and then Oliver scored with a long shot to make it 3-1. Ireland rallied again though; from another Jonathan corner, Emilio struck with a powerful header to make it 2-3. Soon after it seemed that Ireland had equalised when Luca Cerri followed up another rebound off the post and bundled the ball over the line. Referee Corcoran (from Ireland!) confirmed the goal but then, with an admirable dose of fair play, Luca confessed to a handball and the goal was disallowed (are you reading Thierry Henry?). But life IS fair.. two minutes later, Luca found some space and blasted the equaliser. Penalty shoot out on Thursday morning, 11.00!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Leo 7, Luca Cerri 4, Oliver 3, Jon 3, Tommaso 2, Emilio 2

29.5.12

Germany 6-0 Italy

Rocked by the recent match-fixing scandals and missing Max and Simone (in manette?), Italy floundered to a 6-0 defeat. Never in the game, the Italians nonetheless managed to keep the scoreline down to 2-0 (goals from Mattia, Alex)..........until Ale dB came out of goal and destroyed them with a well-taken hat-trick. David scored the sixth goal.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Luca dV 8, Mattia 2, Alex H 2, Alex dF 2, Ale dB 2, Zahir 2, Lucas 1, Firat 1, David 1

Ambrit 5-7 New School

An indisciplined performance from Ambrit saw them deservedly lose to a better-organised team from New School who demonstrated that their 2nd place in the Mediterranean Cup was fully deserved. Francesco G put Ambrit 1-0 up with a casual flick and Oliver restored the lead with a well-placed shot after the visitors had equalised. New School drew level again and then took a 3-2 lead. As Ambrit lost all sense of team play, Salvatori took over the game completely and NS went 4-2  and then 5-2 ahead. Oliver scored a second to make it 5-3 but Toti made it 6-3.
Alex grabbed two late goals.
AMBRIT BEST PLAYER: Nobody.

HOLLAND 0-5 PORTUGAL

The Dutch, already qualified for the final, took to the field with only five players and they paid the price. An early brace of goals from Julia put the result beyond doubt and Anjali emerged later in the game to reinforce the Portugese superiority. Lavinia came out of goal and had an immediate impact, winning ball in midfield and capping off a good performance with a goal.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Anjali 10, Lavinia 6, Joana 3, Valeria 1, Ginevra 1

ENGLAND 4-2 FRANCE

France was eliminated from the tournament in a match that showed up their weaknesses and highlighted the strengths of the English team and especially of Oliver, today's Man of the Match and currently top of the Best Player points table.
Ludo opened the scoring with a well-taken goal but brother Francesco equalised with an unstoppable shot. But the Gallo challenge continued with Ludo grabbing a second goal - a spectacular overhead kick that left the crowd gasping.
As the French tried to get back into the game, they were mercilessly prodded and exposed by the passing and movement of Oliver and it was Oliver himself who delivered the final blows to Robin's team. His two second-half goals were a just reward for a superlative personal performance and for an English team that seems to be hitting top form just before the semi-finals. Francesco Gallo's second goal was in vain and France will not be seen again this year.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Oliver 9, Ludo 5, Tim 2, Idriss 1, Giovanni 1, Tommaso 1, Robin 1, Nicholas 1

Mediterranean Cup 2012: a great success!
