Missing top-scorer Totti, 7M played well but never really threatened the 8G goal. Protected by a solid defence of Selina, Maisie and Emma, the boys Antony, Daniel, Lorenzo and Jacopo were free to play a mature brand of football based on good movement off the ball, patient build-up, early passing and accurate shooting. Antony opened up the 7M defence first for Lorenzo, then for Jacopo and finished off the scoring himself. A voice in the crowd was heard to murmur... "if Ambrit doesn't win the Med Cup this year, they never will". Indeed.
Congratulations to the Champions - we'll see them in action against the teachers next week.

7M 1-1 6D (5-2 after penalties)
Incredible! Against all the odds, G6 pulled off a memorable result against 7M but then crashed out on penalties. Alex PU put his team ahead and frantic play from 7M saw Cristian equalise but stout defending from 6D kept them at bay (bravo Alessandro in goal!!).

6C 2-1 6R
6C pulled themselves together after yesterday's defeat and played themselves back into the reckoning with a hard-fought victory over 6R.
Chanel followed up long range effort and was first in to nudge the ball over the line to give 6C an early lead. 6R battled to get back into the game but Dylan battled too hard and received the season's first red card.
But 6R never lost hope and, when Edoardo conceded a free kick near the half-way line, Marco scored with a superb long-range effort to bring the teams level.
But 6R joy was short-lived: Pietro, hovering on the edge of the box, received the ball and slotted it past the keeper to give the three points to 6C.

7M 4-0 7L
An inquiry into the seventh grade split is underway today after 7M fielded a team packed with internationals and secured an uneasy win against 7L.
A first half goal from Guillermo, a doppietta from Mateo and a debut Ambrit goal from Valerio was more than enough to send 7M into a semi-final against the G6 Champions.

8G 3-0 8V
Two goals from Jacopo and a penalty from Lorenzo at the end were enough to ease 8G past a disorganised 8V and into the final.
13.9.18
8G 4-2 8T
A hotly-contested game was even for long periods but 8G stretched their necks at the end and bagged the three points.
One of many smooth combinations between Daniel and Jacopo saw Rossi open the scoring but Carlos's determination dragged his side level.
8G took the lead again when Daniel scored but, following a foul on Ale, Andrea scored from the free kick: 2-2.
Immediately afterwards, Andrea was caught in possession and 8G took the lead for the third time through Jacopo. This time there was no way back for 8T and Anthony made it 4-2.
A draw in tomorrow's match versus 8V will be enough to see 8G reach the final.

8V 1-1 8T
The first match of the year and the first leg of a triangular G8 championship finished in a 1-1 draw, thanks to two classy goals and some outstanding goalkeeping.
Ale N put his side ahead after a strong run through midfield and a well-placed shot; Tommy C equalised with another burst of individual skill. Louis and Max, two of Ambrit's most experienced goalkeepers, made a series of saves to frustrate efforts from Alex, Andrea, Carlos, Filippo and Gavyn.
The girls on each side were most noticeable at the back, adding another layer of impenetrability to both defences.

BOYS FINAL: Belgium 3-2 Portugal
A packed Ambrit stadium witnessed a worthy final today as Belgium edged out Portugal in a 5-goal thriller.
Daniel scored early on for Belgium but it was Portugal who dominated the play. Ale cracked a fierce shot from the left but Louis met it with strong wrists and diverted the ball over for a corner. Next to test Louis was Giuseppe but, again, Louis was equal to the task.
Portugal continued to swarm forward and Ale should have scored with a header at the far post but the ball trickled wide. Louis made another save from Jacopo but then Jerry handled that ball in the area and Jacopo converted the penalty: 1-1.
Belgium were now forced to attack and Julian found himself with time, space and only the keeper to beat. But he delayed too long and the chance disappeared. At the other end, Jacopo had a good chance but, instead of shooting passing to Aden, he tried to beat the last defender and lost the ball.
The game then changed as Antony picked up a ball wide on the right. Just managing to keep it in, he beat two defenders and shot past Giacomo to make it 2-1 to Belgium.
Aden had a half-chance to equalise but Belgium pulled father ahead when Daniel scored the best goal of the game, finishing off a move involving Julian and Antony.
Desperate, Portugal came back again and Giuseppe played Jacopo in to make it 3-2. But Belgium held on to capture another prestigious trophy and can now head for Russia 2018 with confidence.

BOYS FINAL: Portugal - Belgium - PREVIEW
PORTUGAL BELGIUM
With Ale N in excellent form in midfield and
with a goalkeeper (Giacomo) who
performed miracles in the semi-final, Portugal look to be in good shape for
this year’s title. Aden, carrying
over his good form from the Med Cup, has also been playing well and, in the
semi-final, his running and tackling were important. Giuseppe is a menacing
physical presence in defence; he kept Manfredi under wraps in the semi-final
and Giuseppe can also be a threat coming forward. Andrea will cover well at the
back. If Tommy and Jacopo also hit top form, and with
good cover on the bench – particularly in defence - it is hard to see Portugal
losing this one.
But Belgium are no mugs.
Alex D is only 2 points behind Ale N in the
points table and the passing combinations between Alex, Daniel and Antony can,
at times, be dazzling. Elias F is often impossible to beat in defence and Jerry
can be a match for Giuseppe’s physical strength.
All in all, it is a tough result to call.
Prediction: Portugal 2-2 Belgium

Ambrit Crowned RISA League Champions 2017-2018
We Are The Champions!!! |
A 3-1 win over SGBIS B (Lapo assist to Niccolo'; Manfredi 2), a 4-1 win over Marymount (Niccolo' assist to Lapo, Manfredi, Lapo, Niccolo') and a 4-0 win over Southlands (great dribble and goal from Niccolo', Giuseppe assist to Lapo, Niccolo', Manfredi) set up a crucial decider with St George's A.
No problem; a 6-3 win (Manfredi 4, Giuseppe) decided the title and brought Manfredi to a whopping 52 goals this year!

Brazil 4-1 Spain
With a startling inefficiency in fromt of goal today, a profligate Spain blew any chance of catching their opponents after Brazil had notched up three early goals.
First Lapo, then Manfredi, then Lapo again scored as a disoriented Spain (without Niccolo') struggled to find their feet.
The addition of Giuseppe (guesting) in goal settled them down and they constructed numerous chances. They did have the ball in the net twice but the first 'goal' was disallowed for a foul throw and the second because the referee had already whistled for a penalty. Guillermo converted it to make it 3-1 but Brazil sealed Third Place with Michele's well-taken winner.

GIRLS' FINAL: Iran 2-2 Japan (6-5 after penalties)
The girls kept the best game till last - a real cracker under a hot sun today at Ambrit Stadium.
Iran took the lead with an early Lucrezia goal but Annie came forward to equalise shortly afterwards. Iran piled on the pressure but Mari made some fantastic saves from Gaia and Lucrezia and Francesca defended expertly.
It was Japan who almost took the lead when Michelle passed to Carolina but her shot came back off the post. Michelle was now playing really well and made great runs through the centre and down the left, tackled hard in midfield too.
At the other end, Maria Carolina suddenly found herself with a chance with just the goalkeeper to beat but, again, Mari was equal to the challenge.
Japan then took the lead when Michelle rifled in an unstoppable shot from the left. Iran came back again and laid siege to the Japanese goal but it seemed that the ball just would not go in. But then it did! Gaia was first to a loose ball in the area and she made it 2-2.
A tense penalty competition followed where the goalkeepers made a series of good saves and it was left to Eleonora to score the winning goal for Iran!
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Lucrezia 4, Michelle 3, Annie 4, Mari 3, Gaia 2, Francesca 2, Maria Carolina 1, Giorgia 1, Carolina 1.

Portugal 2-0 Brazil
Goals from Ale N and Aden were enough to see Portugal glide past Brazil in a tense semi-final and Portugal now go on to face Belgium in the final.
Ale N wrong-footed Federico for the first goal but Michele almost equalised shortly afterwards. Only a breath-taking save from Giacomo kept the ball out and Giacomo was to make two more crucial interventions later on.
Brazil played without heir usual discipline and hurried shots were often off-target. Giuseppe, in defence for Portugal, closed down the attackers early and Ale, Jacopo andTommy provided good out-balls. Aden's winner came at the end, a breakaway goal as Brazil pushed desperately for an equaliser.

Japan 3-0 France

SEMI FINAL: Belgium 6-3 Spain
Two disorganised sides produced a chaotic match today but Belgium did enough to proceed to the final.
Spain began better. Mateo was on hand to score from Guillermo's rebounded shot and Guillermo himself made it 2-0.
But then Belgium began to play and Spain collapsed, losing all composure. Jerry was everywhere, winning tackles and supplying Daniel and Alex who knew how to do the rest.
They banged in 5 goals between them as Spain changed goalkeeper three times without resolving their problems.
Paul pulled one back but Anthony made a cameo appearance towards the end and sealed the result.

Belgium 1-1 Sweden
Two attack-minded sides protected by two in-from goalkeepers clashed at Ambrit Stadium today as the Intramural competition entered its final stages.
Belgium took the lead following some sustained pressure down the right. Anthony tried to dribble through two defenders and, when the ball popped up off a tackle, Daniel was on hand to plant an unstoppable shot right into the opposite corner.
Cristian played very far forward for Sweden and was always available as a target for the outball but Sweden's distribution from midfield was inconsistent. Things improved when Filippo came on and the Swedes attacks grew more threatening.
Their equaliser came when Lorenzo put Jerry under pressure, won the ball and shot past Louis.
Both sides continued to attack but Cristian's shot that came back off the underside of the crossbar (goal?!) was the closest to a winner.

Amrit Boys take Winners trophy in Champions League (Silver) at MedCup 2018
A proud Ambrit qualified for the Champions League at Medcup
this year and came home with the winners trophy in the Champions Silver
category.
They played five games on day 1, winning three and losing
two - against IS Lausanne and BIS Cairo.
Ambrit lost to Lausanne by two goals and, against Cairo,
they would have tied the game but luck was not on their side.
In our last game of the morning , we played and beat Jeddah
Prep, our goal coming from Manfredi’s header after an assist by Alessandro. The
last two games were played in the afternoon with a rested and confident Ambrit,
this time ready to defend their goal at all costs against IS Hannover and Moser
Geneva. With a new defensive formation, Ambrit secured their goal in the first
half of the game against Hannover with a goal by Manfredi. Knowing they had to
win to qualify, they defended well until the end of the game. With Cairo ahead
on goal difference, Ambrit did what any other team would have done and put all
their energy into winning the last game of the first day against Moser Geneva.
A very fast paced game saw Manfredi scoring 2 goals and Niccolo getting 4 in,
as well as Jerry with the final goal for a 7-0 win.
On day 2, Ambrit played four games.
Game 1 against Prague was a 2-2 tie, goals from Manfredi and
Niccolo. Next up was Berlin, and Manfredi and Niccolo (2) scored again in a 3-1
win.
Ambrit next faced Cairo in an intense return game. Both
teams played with great determination and both goalies saved excellent shots
and managed to keep the ball out of the net. Unfortunately, in a moment of
distraction, Cairo managed to get one in and then defended their goal, giving Ambrit
no chance of getting through to equalize.
In the Afternoon Ambrit faced Mashrek from Jordan. Disappointed
from their earlier defeat, Ambrit was determined to win this game. Aden led the
team by scoring the first 2 goals followed by Manfredi's goal for 3-0 and
managed to hank on for a 3-1 win.
Ambrit’s last game on Sunday vs Marbella was a fight for
first place in the league. Ambrit won 2-0 with both goals from our co-captain
Manfredi, bringing home the 1st place Cup in Champions Silver League.

u11 ANSPI: Ambrit pick up a vital three points
On a blistering afternoon at Ambrit Stadium, the u11s ran out easy winners over Vigna Pia Bianca.
Nikos opened the scoring when he chipped the ball over his marker and then cracked the ball on the half volley into the opposite corner.
Lorenzo made it 2-0 but Ambrit paid for some early sloppiness when Vigna Pia pulled one back, none of the Ambrit players attacking a good cross from the right.
Lorenzo restored the two goal advantage and, just before the break, Zach made it 4-1 when he dummied the goalkeeper and slotted home from close range.
In the second period, Vigna Pia attacked more often but Mattia made some great saves and Santiago, Jonas and Lucas played well at the back. Santiago also provided the assist for Caio to score his first of the game: 5-1 at the second break.
Early in the third period, Nikos cracked a great shot off the post and Caio was first to the rebound to make it 6-1. Caio completed his hat-trick when Zach played him in and Lorenzo's solo effort finished off the scoring.

u11 ANSPI: Ambrit go down fighting!
Let's break this one down into three periods: period 1 - awful, period 2 - better, period 3 - much better!!
Ambrit's players were asleep a the start and made every conceivable error, allowing their opponents too much time, too much space and unopposed shots on goal. Vittorio and Lorenzo did have chances but, in truth, we were lucky to come in for the fist break just 4-0 down... it could have been more.
Stern words at the break and Ambrit emerged for the second period with new purpose. Lorenzo continued to harry and chase and the midfield pressed up on their opponents. Chances were created and Nikos stepped up to tuck in a half-chance from the left to make it 4-1/ He almost made it 2-4 with a trademark free kick and Zach's acrobatic follow-up shot went just over.
Ambrit continued to pressure their opponents in the third period. Goalmouth scrambles ensued and, with passes flying around inside the penalty area, it was only a matter of time before Ambrit got another break. This time it came in the form of a penalty decision but Lorenzo pushed his kick wide. San Leonardo re-grouped quickly and, on the break, they made it 5-1.
But Ambrit kept on fighting to the end and were rewarded with a second goal when Alberto's shot from the right fooled the goalkeeper and dribbled in.
All in all, a day with a lot of negatives early on but some positives later. Particularly noticeable today was Lorenzo's ability to turn a defender with his back to the goal and this is always going to cause problems to our opponents and Lorenzo wins a lot of free kicks too with well-controlled dribbling.

ANSPI u11: Empire 2-2 Ambrit
In a somewhat confused opening period, it was Ambrit who took the lead. Once again, free-kick expert Nikos stepped up after Lorenzo had earned yet another free-kick with some excellent work in midfield. Nikos planted a splendid drive into the top corner and Ambrit celebrated. Ambrit really should have added at least one more goal before the first interval, with Nikos and Lorenzo having good chances but neither of them finished well.
They passed the test!
They fought valiantly through the third period and were rewarded when, following a mad goalmouth scramble, Vittorio popped up to bang home the equaliser.
A special word for Alberto tonight. He worked tirelessly in midfield, tackled strongly, passed cleverly and, best of all, showed an instinctive tactical awareness when covering gaps on the right side of midfield in the last few minutes. Great stuff!

Brazil 6 - 1 England
PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Ottaviano 4, Lapo 4, Ale Z 3, Virginia 2, Annie 2, Gabeen 2, Michele 1, Riccardo 1, Tommaso S. 1, Yutong 1.

ANSPI u11: Ambrit suffer second defeat in a row
After last week's fighting performance against the league leaders, Ambrit went down much more tamely to the league's second place team and will have to tighten up their approach for the next game, away to Empire (Wed March 28th).
The big exception today though was Mattia: Ambrit's goalkeeper was fantastic and God only knows what the final score would have been were it not for his heroics.
Two goals down at the first interval, Ambrit had not had a shot at goal and were looking for some inspiration at the start of the second period.
Unfortunately it didn't happen. The home side scored again early on and Ambrit heads dropped.
As the period wore on, more and more gaps opened up in midfield and San Girolamo racked up the goals.
The third period was Ambrit's last chance to salvage something from the game and they did, at last, find another gear. The team worked together to limit their opponents to just a handful of chances and Zach played Lorenzo in for a goal which brought some consolation at the end.

ANSPI u13: Ambrit Beat Vigna Pia to capture Provincial Crown!
Giacomo: hat-trick hero |
Against a well-organised Vigna Pia, Ambrit struggled to impose themselves in the first period and found themselves trailing 1-0. But, as the match unfolded, Ambrit slowly found their rhythm and, when Giacomo was released by an excellent pass from Pietro, he raced towards the goalkeeper ahead of the last defender. The defender tried to foul him once, he tried to foul him a second time but Giacomo had only one thing in mind and he wasn't to be stopped. With a glance up to check the keeper's position, he calmly slotted home just as he was fouled for the third time!
Giacomo repeated the feat twice more as Ambrit made clever use of the time and space that was opening up and, in the end, they were full value for the 3-1 win.

ANSPI u11: Ambrit lose to Vigna Pia
The two teams celebrate a closely-fought encounter |
Knowing that Vigna Pia - runaway leaders of the league - liked to play out of defence and keep the ball to feet, Ambrit decided to press high to try and strangle their play.
It worked and Ambrit managed to dominate possession and territory for long periods. Ambrit should have scored three goals in the first period. But this was the difference between the teams: when Vigna Pia did create chances - on the break - they scored and led 2-0 at the first break. The first goal was cruel - a deflected free kick - but the second came from an unstoppable passing movement that should have served as a warning to Ambrit to stay awake!
With Ambrit asleep at a corner, Vigna Pia scored again immediately after the break but then Ambrit woke up and dominated again. Nonethless it was VP who scored again; this time Ambrit were unlucky - a fantastic tackle from Vittorio saw the ball trickle past the keeper and into the net.
And then Ambrit almost scored... five times in a row. Nikos and Zach were slipping good passes through the lines and Lorenzo was making great runs to get on the end of them, but the ball just wouldn't go in! Two free kicks from Nikos also came close, but no goal and 3-0 at the second interval.
In the third period, Ambrit tired and did collapse a little at the back. Nikos pulled one goal back with a clever header off Vittorio's pass but Ambrit now need to look to next week's match for three points!

RISA u14: Ambrit go top of the table!
Ambrit’s players were focused to win. Rain or shine, they were prepared and played well, winning both games at the tournament. Ambrit vs St. George’s 3 ended in 8-0 with Manfredi scoring 4 of the goals flowed by Alessandro with a great header from a corner and Peter from defense with a great shot from midfield for 6-0.
Great team work from Lapo and Niko saw them both score minutes apart from each other, ending the game 8-0. Playing back to back Ambrit faced Aosr under the rain. Aosr managed to get a quick goal at the beginning which helped Ambrit stay on their toes. Manfredi went on to score 2 goals, one of which was a rebound shot from Alessandro, who himself went on to get a goal on a corner by Lapo and ending the game 3-1.
ANSPI u13: San Michele Trigoria 1-4 Ambrit
Ambrit was yet again challenged with extreme weather and unfamiliar grounds. Playing on a smaller field, Ambrit had to adapt to playing five on five. The first team went in for the first period with no fear. Giacomo on throw in passed it to Pietro for our first goal. Unfortunately, right before the whistle we conceded an equaliser. In the second period Alex and Pietro played up front; there was no stopping them as they both scored within minutes in the game. Our third period was tense. Ambrit concentrated on defending and only moved up when necessary. On a throw in, Alex passed the ball to Pietro and, with ease, he dribbled to the net ending the game 4-1 - which might have been 5-1 had the referee not disallowed a good goal from Elias or had Ludovico tucked away a chance at the end when he replaced Alex.

ANSPI u11: Casaletto 5-2 Ambrit
Strangely, despite the scoreline, this was a match that Ambrit could have won... had they been at full strength.
Those who showed up played really, really well; they played 5 versus 6 for the whole match and kept running, kept fighting for the whole 45 minutes.
The first period remained scoreless almost to the end. Casaletto had chances but so did Ambrit. The ball fell to Alberto close to the goal but his shot was high; Lorenzo too had a chance but his shot was blocked. Casaletto scored two good goals just before the break.
Lukas was having a great game in defence, marking their most dangerous forward, and Vittorio was everywhere: harrying, tackling, passing. Santiago, in goal, made loads of good saves and played sweeper too. Alberto tracked back well and was always looking to break quickly. Lorenzo... see below!
The second period began badly. Ambrit were asleep as a corner came in and gifted a free header at the far post to finish 3-0 down. Ambrit were unlucky though for the fourth. Vittorio made a fantastic tackle but the ball broke unkindly and trickled over the line. All seemed lost.
But it wasn't! Just before the second break, Alberto scored a fantastic goal to make it 4-1! Lorenzo, already playing well, now stepped up a level and made some great runs. Vittorio had a good shot.
Lorenzo almost scored as soon as the third period began but Ambrit was then caught on the break and went 5-1 down. But did our heads drop? NO!!
Lorenzo was incredible. Every time Casaletto tried to play out of defence, he put them under pressure and, more than once, forced a mistake and created a scoring chance. In fact, from one of these, the ball broke to Santiago and he let fly an absolute scorcher of a shot into the top corner.
What a goal! What a game!! What a team!!!

Germany 1 - 1 Japan

Belgium 3-2 Portugal
A snowy Ambrit Stadium witnessed an excellent encounter today, settled by a last minute penalty to give Belgium the three points.
Anthony fired his team into an early lead with a well-struck free kick.
Tommaso played Ale N in for an equaliser but Louis made a great save and Anthony struck again with another free kick to make it 2-0.
Ale N pulled a goal back with a delicious and finely-judged shot from the left that just crept over Louis and Alex almost made it 3-1 but his shot came back off the post.
Alex was at the centre of things again shortly afterwards, claiming a foul which was not given and which left Giuseppe in possession and able to score from far out to make it 2-2.
The game might have ended all-square but Giuseppe's impulsive tug on Daniel inside the penalty area allowed Daniel to convert the winner.

ANSPI u13: Empire 5-7 AMBRIT
Tough game for Ambrit against APD Empire. With only six players and no subs, Ambrit concentrated on defending after their first two goals by Elias and Alex. In the second period, Ambrit was down by two goals as Empire played an entire new team on the field. But with long shots from midfield, Alex scored three more goals in to keep their noses in front.
In the third period Ambrit, now exhausted, allowed APD Empire to squeeze in another goal. With Cesare in goal and clearing balls quickly, Mateo managed to score the last two winning goals and ending the game 7-5.

Brazil 3-0 Spain
Tiberio made two great saves to deny Ottaviano a goal but, in between, he was helpless when a moment of distraction from Niccolo' allowed Tommy to sneak in and finish clinically.
It was Tommy who struck again later on to make it 2-0, this time off a Riccardo assist, and Alessandro made it 3-0 near the end.
Spain were never out of the game though and, with Niccolo' in the team, were always dangerous. Without Guillermo and Pietro, Gavin was forced into midfield and the attack was often blunt. Brail coped better with the absence of Manfredi and Michele.

Iran 5-0 France
PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
