ANSPI: Ambrit 6-2 Real Muratella

Ambrit's team salute a packed stadium before tonight's match
Ambrit got back to winning ways tonight at Ambrit Stadium and posted a valuable 6-2 win that lifts them into second place in Girone B table (classifica here).
Pietro scored the first goal after just one minute, turning nicely and shooting with his right foot into the opposite corner. He followed up with a second just two minutes later, rising majestically to nod home a Filippo corner.
Ambrit just wouldn't allow the visitors to settle. Ludovico was everywhere in defence and, after eight minutes, Ambrit struck again when Joell finished a neat passing move to make it 3-0. Fair play to Real though; they rallied and made it 3-1 before the first interval.
In the second period, Ambrit's defence was tested and came through with flying colours. Ale and Elias were quick to the ball and quick to clear the danger and Eric made a couple of vital saves.
Eric lunches himself to the right to make another vital save
Joell then copied Pietro, popping up to score his second goal from a well-delivered Ale corner (see video).

Ambrit began the last period with a 4-1 lead and Filippo crowned another excellent midfield performance with his team's fifth goal. Real managed to pull another one back but Nikos shot home from a Giacomo pass near the end to make it 6-2.

Ambrit November Tournament: GRADE 6 CAPTURES FIRST PLACE!

On the road to victory: Ambrit before their second game
Ambrit's Grade 6 team played with skill and determination today and were rewarded with the Winners' trophy.
They began on the front-foot with a convincing 4-1 win against SGBIS, denying their opponents any time and space and taking advantage of all the opportunities that came their way.
The L-E-G defence was solid as a rock and Alex harried and hustled constantly in the middle. Julian and Alioune held the fort until Daniel arrived. Goals from Daniel (2), Alex and a brilliant free kick from Gavyn who piloted the ball into the top corner from 20 meters out!
A derby win against Grade 5 confirmed the team's good moment of form, this time the goals coming from Alex (2), Lorenzo and Daniel.
The last group game was against Castelli, who had also won their first two matches. Ambrit, knowing that they would face the same team later in the final, used this game to study their opponents. They sat back, allowed Castelli to control the game and settled for a 1-2 defeat (scorer: Alex).
A confident Alex shakes hands with the Castelli captain before the final
Ambrit then lined out for the final knowing they had to overturn the result in the group game. This time, they changed their tactics and put Castelli under pressure from the start. Then, as Castelli made a rare foray into Ambrit territory, Gavyn gave away an unnecessary foul on the left and Castelli scored from the resulting free kick. Now Ambrit found themselves 1-0 down again.
At this stage, heads might have dropped, but Captain Alex wasn't about to let that happen! Ambrit redoubled their efforts and equalised when Gavyn scored his second free kick goal of the day, floating a beautifully-judged ball over the goalkeeper's head.
Buoyed by this, Ambrit pinned down Castelli in their own half and Daniel's well-taken brace of goals put his side 3-1 up with seven minutes left to play. With Ambrit now tiring, Castelli came back into the game. They pulled one goal back but Ambrit held on for a fully-deserved victory!

The Winning Team

Ambrit's grade 5 team (right), up against older opponents today, gave a good account of themselves and made all of their opponents work hard for every point. Their best game of the day came against SGBIS, where Pietro's equaliser (he scored four goals today!) opened up the possibility of a first victory of the morning but the team had to settle for a narrow 2-1 defeat.

GRADE 3 & GRADE 4
In a very competitive and even tournament, the third graders beat the eventual finalists - SGBIS A - and collected 6 points; the fourth graders won the Ambrit derby and also collected 6 points.

RESULTS
Ambrit 3 - SGBIS A   2-0
Ambrit 3 - SGBIS B   3-1
Ambrit 3 - Castelli      1-2
Ambrit 3 - Ambrit 4    2-4
Ambrit 4 - Castelli      0-2
Ambrit 4 - SGBIS B   2-1
Ambrit 4 - SGBIS A   0-4

Roma 4 - 0 Ajax

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS
Mia 4, Allison 3, Matilde 2, Chiara 2, Helena 2, Selina 2, Annie, Gaia Z 1, Donya 1, Gea 1.

24.11.16

Roma 1 - 2 Manchester United

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Mia 6, Lucrezia 3, Matilde 3, Saya 2, Beatriz 1, Helena 1, Michelle 1, Chiara 1.

23.11.16

Chelsea 4-2 Barcelona

A shocked crowd left Ambrit Stadium today wondering how Chelsea, until now without a point, could have beaten the Spanish Champions, hot favourites for the Autumn title.
Alioune opened the scoring in today's match, turning teh ball past Louis at the far post. Anthony made it 2-0 when Francesco played him through but then Tommaso rallied his team with a couple of extra dribbling runs, the second of which led to a corner. From the resulting kick, Senai headed in.
Ascanio equalised before half time and it seemed that Chelsea might have run out of steam.
But Conte revved up his team during the interval and they dominated the opening exchanges again. Alessandro drove a fine left-foot shot across the goal and, in the dying seconds, Jacopo sealed the victory.

This result leaves Barcelona level on points with Bayern and PSG. Barcelona proceed to the final on head-to-head results (they beat both Bayern and PSG) and they will face Bayern (who drew with PSG but have a superior goal difference).
PSG will dispute the Third Place final with Juventus.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Anthony 6, Edo J 3, Francesco C 3, Tommaso 2, Ale Z 2, Michele 1, Gavyn 1, Elias1, Alioune 1, Peter 1

Yellow cards: Riccardo, Senai

Wed Nov 30, 3rd PLACE FINAL: PSG vs Juventus
Fri Dec 02, FINAL: Barcelona vs Bayern

ANSPI: Ambrit 2-6 Santos

After their win last week, Ambrit's players came crashing back to earth today, losing to a well-prepared Santos.
Their bigger opponents (!) got off to a flying start and Eric was kept busy early on: he made four fantastic saves in the first few minutes but then, when he clawed away a fifth attempt, the ball fell to an opponent and it was 1-0 to the visitors.
Nikos and Joell pushed forward when they could and gave the opposing defence lots to think about. Two more saves by Eric and some stout defending by Ale and Elias saw Ambrit safely to the first break, trailing by just one goal.
Joell went between the sticks for the second period and he was tested too! He beat away the first two shots but then Santos doubled their lead with a goal that was a photocopy of the first one.
But Ambrit fought back!
Man-of-the-Match Pietro was quicker to the ball when it mattered and he bundled in a goal for Ambrit: 2-1.
Ambrit's Man of the Match
The resurgence was short-lived though and Santos made it 4-1 before the second break.
But Ambrit came out for the last period and gave their supporters at Ambrit Stadium something to cheer about! When they might have thrown in the towel, our players instead got stuck into the game and really looked like they might turn it around, exemplified by Ludovico who stopped a dangerous Santos attack with a great last-ditch tackle. Pietro almost scored in the 3rd minute but then, in the 4th minute, he did! Filippo threaded a beautiful pass through the Santos defence and Pietro banged it home.
Ambrit continued to fight right to the death. Giacomo and Filippo might easily have added a couple of goals but it was Santos who scored on the break to seal what was, in the end, a deserved victory.

18.11.16

PSG 6-1 Chelsea

Another defeat for a demoralised Chelsea and PSG give themselves a slim chance to reach the final, if Barcelona should fail to beat Chelsea in the last game.
Manfredi's recent scoring vein continues and he had his team 2-0 up by half time. Jacopo made a couple of good saves from Nathan and Nico to keep the scoreline respectable.
The French Champions continued to dominate in the second half. Nathan made it 3-0, Manfredi completed his hat-trick and then Julian took over, scoring two goals and making some vital interventions and some good passes. Julian's double was split by Anthony's consolation goal.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Julian 5, Manfredi 4, Elias 3, Niko 2, Filippo 2, Nathan 2, Anthony 1, Alessandro 1, Pietu 1

17.11.16

BOYS SOCCER: St George's 0-3 Ambrit

Following their 6-1 triumph at Ambrit Stadium two weeks ago, Ambrit completed a double win in their Autumn challenge series against St George's with a comfortable victory at the Cassia venue today.
Goals from Edo J, and Manfredi (2). More details to follow...!

For the first 10 minutes of the match, not much happened until Manfredi scored a lovely half volley (you could hear it smack the net!) but the goal was disallowed. Then a really long clearance from Ascanio found Manfredi in the penalty box; his pass set up Edo J and Edo nailed it into the top corner.
Gavin almost scored with a deflected shot but the goalkeeper made a lucky save and Manfredi scored the goal that ended the match.
Ambrit Team: Ascanio, Thomas, Edo J, Federico, Taro, Jerry, Peter, Giuseppe, Theo, Manfredi, Gavyn

16.11.16

Barcelona 1-0 Bayern Munich

A narrow victory today for the Spanish Champions throws the championship wide open going into the final two matches. A point in their last game against Chelsea will be enough to see Barcelona through to the final and Bayern will join them unless PSG can beat Chelsea by 10 goals in their last game.
A dour first half today ended 0-0 and the second half was largely devoid of chances too. After six minutes of the second half though, a promising Catalan attack resulted in Tiberio making a good save from an Edo P shot. When Tiberio came out to clear the resulting loose ball, he met a determined Michele who was strong enough in the tackle to beat the hapless 'keeper and tap the ball home for the only, decisive goal of the game.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Alex 5, Edo P 3, Senai 3, Michele 2, Gavyn 2, Gabriele 2, Aden 2, Tiberio 1, Ascanio 1

Saturday 12 November: Ambrit Win First Matches in RISA League

Ambrit came racing out of the traps for the first round of the RISA league and they won both of their matches against AOSR.
In the first match against 'AOSR 1', Daniel opened the scoring after just 1 minute, giving us a glimpse of the energetic, alert play that would give his team attacking options all morning.
The lead lasted only 3 minutes though, a quick AOSR attack bringing them an equaliser.
Anthony then forced a save from the goalkeeper, Daniel shot over from close range and then he hit the bar with an acrobatic affort from the left. But a goal was on the way...!
It arrived when Daniel played Anthony through with a well-weighted pass and Anthony scored.
Again though, the lead was short-lived and AOSR equalised 2' later.
Ambrit kept pouring forward and, on the 16th minute, Lorenzo shimmied his marker and shot in from a narrow angle: 3-2!
The last 9 minutes were tense and either team might have scored but then, as the crowd looked on anxiously, Daniel settled the nerves with another well taken goal to produce a final score of Ambrit 4-2 AOSR - a win made possible by a good team effort and some selfless defence by Elias, Gavyn and Louis.

In the second match, Ambrit were caught cold and went 1-0 down after two minutes when AOSR scored from a long free kick. After 6 minutes, Anthony pounced on a loose ball and slammed home a lovely equaliser and Daniel made it 2-1 just 1 minute later.
Their opponents were now reeling and Anthony then slid a beautiful pass through two defenders to take advantage of Daniel's movement and it was 3-1 after 8 minutes! Riccardo's pass to Daniel opened up a chance to make it 4-1 but
then the game settled down as AOSR played themselves back into it. The visitors were awarded a freee kick on minute 15 and their number 11 - an excellent player - drilled it in to make it 3-2. But Ambrit were in not in the mood to allow their opponents a foothold and the re-introduction of Ascanio in defence gave them a platform to move forward with confidence. Daniel and Thomas whacked in two more goals to make it 5-2 after 23 minutes. However the action was not over and AOSR gave their hosts a fright with two late goals to give a final score of Ambrit 5-4 AOSR.

TEAM: Ascanio (C), Louis, Gavyn, Elias, Lorenzo, Anthony, Thomas, Daniel, Riccardo

Bayern Munich 4-4 Paris St. Germain

Ambrit Stadium rocked today as two of the IM's top sides battled it out in an amazing match that really was a game of two halves.
The re-entry of captain Pietu seemed to add a real edge to the French Champions' play and they looked dangerous from the off.
After the opening exchanges which saw Bayern dominate possession but PSG threaten on the break, it was in-form Manfredi who slid in the opener at the far post.
Nathan made it 2-0 with a thunderbolt from the right and Manfredi made it 3-0 early in the second half when he was on hand as usual to take advantage of a loose ball in the opponents box. When Nico made it 4-0, the neutrals were feeling sorry for Bayern and hoping for the final whistle.
But things were about to change!
Gabriele's strike from outside the box was not hit cleanly but it somehow got past Filippo in goal (a pity: he had just made a fantastic save a minute earlier). What seemed to be just a consolation goal turned out, however, to be the spark that lit the Germans' comeback fire.
Andrea picked up a loose ball outside the penalty area and, when everybody was expecting a pass, he took aim and fired it past Filippo: 4-2 and an unlikly comeback was suddenly more possible.
PSG were now suddenly unable to string their passes together and Bayern continued to press. One attack followed another and, with just three minutes left on the clock, Alex hammered in another goal to make it 4-3.
By now the crowd was totally captivated and most of them were urging on Gabriele and his team to a fourth goal. Aden almost supplied it but then Gabriele did and, at the final whistle, Bayern celebrated their point while Paris rued the two that were lost.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Gabriele 5, Andrea 4, Gustav 3, Manfredi 3, Nathan 3, Tiberio 2, Alex 2, Aden 1, Nico 1, Lorenzo 1, Filippo 1, Pietu 1, Tristano 1

10.11.16

Manchester United 2 - 0 Ajax

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Beatriz 6, Lea 4, Michelle 3, Lucrezia 3, Allison 2, Leila 1, Virginia 1, Selina 1.

Wed Nov 9th: Ambrit Boys 6-1 St George's

It was a good game against St.Georges.
The Ambrit team underestimated them at the beginning because of their size and, as a result, the visitors were the first to place the ball in the net off a foul by Francesco C.
Taro quickly responded by scoring the equalizing goal with an amazing shot into the bottom corner and Ambrit subsequently scored another 5 goals, defeating them 6-1.
Manfredi scored three goals with an amazing shot in the bottom corner and a short range tap in from an excellent cross. Nathan used his amazing skills and dribbled the whole team two or three times and was eventually rewarded with an amazing goal off his left foot. Edo J finished off a brave but outplayed St. Georges team with the final goal of the game.

It was Ambrit's first game and the team has made a very positive start to the season; their coach was proud of them. (Giuseppe & Aden)

9.11.16

Barcelona 2 - 2 Juventus

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Tommaso 5, Edo P. 4, Giuseppe 4, Taro 3, AleN. 2,  Michele 1, Gavyn 1, Federico 1.

26.10.16

Ajax 1 - 1 Roma

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Matilde 6, Allison 4, Grace 3, Gaia Z 3, Mia 3, Annie 2, Gaia DR 2, Chiara 1, Benedetta 1, Maisie 1, Donya 1.

Bayern Munich 4-1 Juventus

After dominating the opening exchanges, with Gabriele and Aden each hitting the post within 10 seconds and Lapo missing from 3 meters out, Bayern found themselves 1-0 down when Taro broke quickly down the left, crossed to the middle and Daniel tapped home.
The German champions almost equalised through Gabriele but Federico made a fine save. Then Daniel conceded a free kick and picked up a yellow card after fouling Alex and Aden punished Juve with the free-kick: 1-1.
Juve came back into track immediately:  Taro hit the bar, Daniel was denied by Tiberio and, at the other end, Lorenzo scuffed a shot past the year post.
Bayern began the 2nd half strongly and Lapo scored a fantastic goal after drifting past three defenders and shooting with his left foot. Federico then almost scored when he leaped high at a corner but his header hit the post.
Bayern then sealed their victory with two late goals through Aden and Gabriele.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Gabriele 6, Lapo 5, Taro 4, Aden 3, Federico 3, Giuseppe 2, Daniel 2, Ale N 2, Tiberio 1

13.10.16

Manchester Utd 2-2 Roma

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:

Leila E 6, Mia 5, Lucrezia 5, Francesca 3, Gaia 2, Helena 1, Grace 1, Nathalie 1, Annie 1, Matilde 1, Benedetta 1, Sofia DM 1.

8.10.16

Paris SG 5-2 juventus

A high-energy, attacking, adventurous match ended with a deserved win for the French Champions after they turned a slow start into a champagne finish.
Juventus seemed to be in charge of the game in the first half but were puzzled to find themselves 2-0 down after Thomas buried a fine header from a Nathan corner and then Nathan himself drove in an unstoppable shot from 20 meters out.
Daniel pulled one bacl with a great solo effort, spinning away from his marker on the right and slipping the ball into the corner of the net.
But Manfredi restored his team's two goal advantage... twice: once after Daniel's goal and then again - with a lovely cheeky finish from the left corner - after Giuseppe had scored the Italians' second.
Manfredi completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after a hand-ball by Giuseppe in the box.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Nathan 7, Manfredi 6, Giuseppe 3, Nico 2, Federico 2, Daniel 2, Thomas 2, Julian 2, Raphael 1, Ale N 1

5.10.16

Bayern Munich 9-1 Chelsea

Chelsea slumped to a second heavy defeat and Antonio Conte looks like being the first manager to lose his job in this year's Intramural.
An avalanche of goals from the Germans seems to have buried any chance of Chelsea advancing to the finals... unless they can quickly turn their season around and win their last two games.
Bayern impressed with some slick passing and clinical finishing. Best goal of the day was probably Alex's second, when he got on the end of a beautiful through pass from Lapo, controlled the ball expertly and rounded the keeper.

BEST PLAYER POINTS: Lapo 7, Aden 5, Gabriele 5, Alex 2, Tristano 2, Lorenzo 1, Jacopo 1, Gustav 1

Barcelona 5-3 Paris SG

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS: Giulia 8Lucrezia 5, Leila 4,  Malena 4, Beatriz 2, Michelle 2, Allison 1, Sofia DM 1, Celeste 1.

Juventus 2-0 Chelsea

Pre-tournament favourites Chelsea suffered an early reverse in today's opener against Juventus, widely fancied before the tournament to finish in last place.
A surprise tactical move by Taro saw Juve line out with Federico in goal and Giuseppe outfield and it proved to be a shrewd choice. All through the match Giuseppe tackled, passed and dribbled with energy and purpose and it was his two goals that sealed the victory.
Chelsea had their chances too. Once in the first half and twice in the second, Jacopo was denied by an excellent Federico. But it was Juventus who dominated. Daniel in the first and Ale in the second showed why the G6 teams have been so successful this year. Good save from Peter too near the end.
BEST PLAYER POINTS: Daniel 8, Giuseppe 5, Taro 4, Ale N 4, Federico 2, Anthony 2, Raphael 1, Lorcan 1, Peter 1

Teachers 4-1 6A

Teacher's new star centre-forward rises high
After defeating 8V, 7P and 6M, the homeroom champions finally met their match today at Ambrit Stadium and were unable to overcome a determined and cynical staff team.
The students had the better chances in the first half but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net; Daniel was particularly impressive.
After the half-time break, the teachers began to take control. Nothing got past Nardi and he distributed the ball well. One of his passes found Mr Piccolo on the left and his perfectly-placed shot into the bottom corner put the Staff 1-0 ahead.
Mr Piccolo celebrates the crucial first goal
The teachers now poured forward but questions were being asked about their expensive new signing from Sweden - Mr Lottering - when he missed an excellent chance created by veteran striker Mr Antonio.
But all was well two minutes later when Lottering pounced on another chance to make it 2-0 and, minutes later, he made it 3-1, justifying his hefty price tag and cementing his place in the team.
A fourth goal was added by Mr Piccolo and the rivalry between Piccolo and Lottering for the number 9 shirt looks likely to continue for some time.

FINAL: 7P 1-1 6A (6A win 4-3 after penalties)

The teams before kick-off
A wonderful game, worthy of the final, finished in dramatic circumstances at Ambrit Stadium today when 6A defeated 7P to become this year's Homeroom Champions.
Showing a maturity beyond their years, the younger players dominated the first half and took a deserved lead early on when Gavin showed himself more alert and more determined then the rest and shot his team in front.
7L did create opportunities but spurned them and arrived at the break 0-1 down.
In the second half, 7L came more and more into the game and always looked like scoring. But 6A were dangerous on the break and should have extended their lead but Peter made a couple of fantastic saves to keep his team in the game.
Aden scores his penalty but 7P loses
And thn 7P did finally equalise when Ale Z managed to control a ball, turn and shoot quickly into the bottom corner. No more goals were scored and the teams headed into an exciting penalty shoot-out which was decided by Daniel's fantastic save! SEE VIDEO BELOW!!

6A 2-2 6M

7G 2-2 7P (7P won penalty shoot-out)

A cracking derby today at Ambrit Stadium saw 7P prevail over their 7G rivals but it was close!
7G dominated the first half possession but created few chances. Nathan finally opened up teh 7G defence and put his team ahead but, not long after, Lapo played Nico through and he lobbed Giuseppe to equalise.
The second half was similar in many ways. Again it was Nathan who found a goal, squeezing a shot in at Bernardo's near post and again Lapo was involved in the equaliser: this time he scored it. Peter made a fantastic save in the penalty shoot-out; Ale buried the decisive kick.

14.9.16

6M 4-3 7L (after penalties)

9.9.16

6A 7-1 8V

Grotesque, Unbelievable, Bizarre, Unprecedented!
Grade 6 put on a fantastic display to defeat the older team in today's quarter final.
G6 started well but wasted a lot of chances and it looked like they might pay for it when Edo P scored for 8V. But Daniel came out and equalised immediately and 6A quickly raced into an unassailable lead with more goals from Daniel (2 more), Antony, Michele, Jacopo and Gavin.

8.9.16

7G 2-2 8T (7G win on penalties)

The first surprise of the year was delivered by 7G as they fought back from a two-goal deficit to eliminate 8T.
The eighth graders went two goals ahead in the first half thanks to a double strike from Taro and the seventh graders seemed to be doomed.
But G8's turnover in the second half allowed 7G back into the game. Nico scored first and then Lucrezia to tie the game at 2-2. 7G held their nerve better in the penalty shoot-out, with Lapo saving one and scoring another to send his team through to a semi-final derby with 7P!

7.9.16

7P 5-0 6R

Grade 6 are at a disadvantage this year, having been divided into three homerooms with only 14 students in each. 7P took full advantage.
Adapting quickly to the 4-touch rule, Nathan put his team 2-0 up  before half time and the rout was completed later on with goals from Giuseppe (2) and Alessandro.
Senai led his team well, turned up everywhere on the pitch but was fighting a losing battle.
7P picked up two yellow cards (Aden, Alessandro) and will need to be careful later on.

8.6.16

Teachers 2-1 Grade eight

Without their talismanic top scorer (Mr Calento: injured) but with new signing Mr Nardin, the teachers held the 8th graders at bay and secured a precious win to remain unbeaten this year.
With Mr Nardi back in the team and controlling the midfield, the teachers took the lead when Mr Piccolo controlled a ball on his chest, turned in mid-air and volleyed past a stunned Andrew - a goal that Mr Gilbody was later to describe as 'breath-taking'!
The students did not lose hope and, following a defensive mix-up, Ramnath planted a perfectly-placed shot past new Dynamo Kiev signing, Mr Mallary.
In the second half, the eight graders brought on the 'big guns': Sasha, Francesco and Sam. After some promising moves early on and a couple of shots from Sasha however, the threat fizzled out, except for the constant menace of Francesco in the air.
Then Mr Nardi struck with the teachers' second goal and the teachers 'closed up shop', defended their lead resolutely and live to fight another year!

7.6.16

Teachers 3-1 Grade 7

After yesterday's close call versus G6, the teachers played their way slowly into this one and ran out convincing winners in the end.
After a scoreless first half, the Calento-Piccolo partnership woke up and, in the space of 10 decisive minutes, cracked in 3 goals (2 Piccolo, 1 Calento).
G7 never really recovered. A late Edo P goal gave them a glimmer of hope but the glimmer faded as the seconds ticked away and 3-1 was the final score.
Man of the Match: Teacher's goalkeeper, Mr Mallary

6.6.16

Teachers 4-4 Grade Six

A match that swung first one way and then the other finally finished in an exciting draw amid chaotic scenes, with Ale writhing in agony after Mr Piccolo accidentally clipped his standing foot on the half-way line.
The teachers survived the opening skirmishes and Mr Antonio, though not yet fully fit, put them 1-0 up with typically well-taken goal.
Nathan equalised when he found himself alone on the left and he kept his head to slot neatly past Dynamo Kiev's newly signed goalkeeper, Mr Mallary.
Mr Piccolo restored the teachers' lead but, again, it didn't last: Matilde followed up on a loose ball and shot home confidently to balance the books.
The teachers captured the lead yet again after another 5 minutes: Ambrit's all-time record goalscorer - Mr Antonio - stretched to reach a corner from the left and directed his header into the net. The Staff looked home and dry when Mr Piccolo struck again to make it 4-2 but Grade 6 bounced back late on: Niccolo' scored a brace to tie the game.

ANSPI: Ambrit Crowned Regional Champions

Ambrit's 'Aspiranti' team were crowned Regional Champions of Lazio after coming out on top at last Thursday's regional finals.
Ambrit lost their first match 2-3 against Parrochia San Girolamo but PSG then went on to lose 3-2 against San Francesco Rieti.
This all meant that Ambrit could finish as champions if they could hold their nerve and defeat Rieti by more than one goal... and the team responded to the challenge magnificently!
They flew into a 3-0 lead and then defended it stoically, including a fantastic penalty save from Peter.
Bellaria and the National Finals, here we come!

1.6.16

SOUTHLANDS TOURNAMENT: Ambrit Boys take First Place

Ambrit got off to a great start, beating Southlands A (disguised as Southlands B), an Aden goal sealing the victory.
Next up was St George's and Ambrit won again, the only goal of the game coming from Sasha.
The third group game finished 13-0 against Southlands A (B!) and Ambrit went on to contest the final against their traditional rivals: St George's.
After a bad start where Ambrit went 0-1 down, the team recovered and eventually ran out 4-1 winners.
TEAM: Michael, Andrew, Laith, Sasha, Aden, Giovanni, Nicholas, Sam, Matteo, Noah

25.5.16

BOYS' FINAL: Sweden 4-1 Italy

Italy took too many touches in defence, failed to clear their lines and paid a heavy price early on. Sweden were organized, direct and imposed themselves physically - though often illegally (3 bookings and a red card) on their smaller opponents.
Sam opened the scoring, Noah Gallo made it 2-0 and Sam - off a well-flighted cross from Manfredi - made it 3-0. The first two goals were due in large part to sloppy defending and, for the third, Sam went unchallenged. Michael added a fourth before half time.
During all this, Italy tried to play good football but their last pass was often less than perfect and Giovanni mopped up many of them with cool positional play.
In the second half, Italy controlled the game and made more chances. Giuseppe scored and could have scored a second but blasted high. Matteo made some good driving runs from the back, Lapo was a dynamo in midfield and Lucrezia and Niccolo' were always dangerous.
BEST PLAYERS POINTS: Giovanni 5, Noah 4, Giuseppe 4, Sam 2, Matteo 1, Lapo 1, Tanner 1, Manfredi 1, Federico 1, Michael 1

24.5.16

INTRAMURAL FINALS: Girls' 1st Place - England 3 - 1 Germany

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Allison 6, Lucrezia 4, Lucie 2, Margarida 2, Raffaella 2, Giulia 1, Beatriz 1, Eilidh 1.

19.5.16

INTRAMURAL FINALS: Boys' Third Place - Ireland 3-3 France

Ireland won Thursday's Penalty Shoot-out 8-7!

PLAYER OF THE MATCH POINTS:
Francesco 4, Aden 2, Sasha 1.

8.5.16

ANSPI: Aspiranti Final - Ambrit 1-3 Monaco

Played on a tight pitch (a pity and a handicap to Ambrit's footballers), the final did not go Ambrit's way: here are the live reports from our correspondent...

10': 2-0 for Monaco, both goals scored in the same minute.....

15': 1st half is over. Still 2-0 for Monaco. Ambrit needs to play the ball more, all the goalie rinvii are going to the opposite side of the field which not very helpful on a 5-a-side field.

30': End of second half. Ambrit is dominating but they haven't taken one shot. They're still taking too many long and useless goalie rinvii. Let's pray that in these next 15 minutes they can do something!

35': Ambrit scored!! (Goal by Gavin)... but so did Monaco: so 3-1.....

45': Game over (beaten... but they're still going to Ostia!

Ambrit 7-2 St George's

As always, the keen rivalry between these teams spiced up the match but, fresh from their Garda experience, Ambrit's superior passing opened up the opposition and goals from Sasha (4), Nicholas, Noah and Alex won the tie easily in the end.

Med Cup 2016: The Boys

Day 1

The Med cup got off to a tough start for the Ambrit boys as they faced a very strong team from Riyadh, the Ambrit team were still asleep as they conceded three goals in rapid succession within the first few minutes. It looked like the tournament might open with a massacre but after the ball hit the net for the third time the Ambrit team suddenly came to life. Laith, Giovanni and Francesco in the Ambrit defense began to get the better of the Riyadh team and the focus of play shifted up the field. What followed was a tense and hard fought match with Ambrit holding the majority of the possession, there was constant pressure on the Riyadh defense but Ambrit could not get a breakthrough so they opened their campaign with a defeat.

This performance set the mood for the rest of the day, Ambrit were tough and fought hard but were not always able to get the goals they needed. Against Bucharest International school Ambrit controlled the game and were only seriously threatened once when Zeno pulled off an excellent save, diving to his right and palming the ball away. Francesco’s head seemed to be a magnet for the ball, any attempt by the opposition to launch a ball towards the Ambrit area was met by a solid header back down the field where the ball would be inevitably collected by Sasha, Michael, Noah or Sam. However Ambrit could not convert their superiority into goals, in the end they were lucky to scrape a 1-0 win thanks to a Bucharest own goal.

Noah and Francesco scored a goal each in an excellent 2-0 win against the Geneva La Chataigneraie team, in this match Ambrit looked like a much stronger team as they started to find their form. The Geneva side had performed well up to this point in the competition and there was some apprehension in the team before the match but it proved unfounded as Ambrit cruised to a comfortable win.

Casablanca was in many ways the most frustrating game of the whole tournament for Ambrit, the two teams were level on points when they met and on paper they looked evenly matched however when the match started it became clear that Ambrit were the stronger team, the pushed Casablanca back and piled on the pressure until thanks to a moment of carelessness they were caught by counter attack and went 1-0 down. Ambrit hit chances over the bar and wide of the post and had several good attempts stopped by some excellent goalkeeping from the Casablanca keeper until Sasha scored a scorching long shot to bring the teams level.

Ambrit finished the first day of the tournament second in their group behind Riyadh level on points with Casablanca but ahead on goal difference. As a result of the other group matches Ambrit went into the Med Cup Champions competition for the rest of the tournament.

Day 2

Ambrit started day 2 with a very similar performance against BIS Cairo as day 1 against Riyadh, while still half asleep they rapidly conceded 2 goals before the game had really got going and after that it was always going to be an uphill struggle. Although both teams contested possession of the ball fairly evenly Ambrit lacked the attacking edge of the Cairo team and as a result went down by four goals to 1 with only Nicholas salvaging some pride for the team.

Monaco proved to be much less of a challenge as the Ambrit boys really started to get into their stride, Francesco opened the scoring with an excellent goal then the floodgates opened Nicholas scored a hat trick and Michael got a goal too as Ambrit proved to be too strong for the monaco team. In the end the game finished with a 5-2 victory for Ambrit.

Jeddah Prep’s A team was a very different proposition, their speed in attack allowed them to score early in the game and Ambrit began their attempt to even a deficit. Their focus on leveling the score led to a several dangerous counter attacks by the quick and dangerous Jeddah wingers until late in the game they scored again and the game finished with a disappointing 2-0 loss.

The result of these matches meant that Ambrit contested the Champions competition Silver semifinal against Wesgreen school on the afternoon of day 2.

The match against Wesgreen was the pinnacle of the tournament for the Ambrit team, they started strongly and never looked back, Sasha opened the scoring with an outstanding solo goal, he dribbled past half of the Wesgreen team and unleashed a fearsome shot into the bottom right corner of the goal. After that Ambrit showed how well they can play, Wesgreen was a good team who so far had done well in the tournament but they were completely opened up by fast, accurate passing. One twos between Noah, Sasha, Matteo and Michael as well as dangerous runs in behind the defence by Nicholas and a completely solid defense from Matteo, Andrew, Giovanni and Laith contributed to an excellent performance, Ramnath came on and looked dangerous, his pace and quick feet causing problems for the Casablanca defence. But the game really belonged to Sam.

He skipped around opposition players with ease, ran at the defense and caused them all kinds of problems and his single minded pursuit of goals led to the next three of Ambrit’s. The first was a crisp shot that the goalkeeper could do little but push away presenting Noah with an easy tap in. The second was an excellent run but he was unable to find the angle to pass the goalkeeper and was forced to pass across the face of the goal where the arriving Sasha buried it in the net. The third, a curling shot towards the corner was deflected away by a defender straight to Noah’s head which placed it directly into the goal.

The victory against Wesgreen put Ambrit through to the Silver Final which was a rematch against Casablanca on the morning of day 3. This time there were no mistakes, Ambrit played almost as well as they had against Wesgreen and two outstanding individual goals from Sasha secured the trophy. Casablanca were overcome by the same quick passing football and confident possession football that Ambrit displayed towards the end of the competition.

(Huge thank you to Martin Leavy for this comprehensive report!).

MedCup 2016: a great experience

Brave!

AMBRIT PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT: Raffaella.
